James Toney
For those of you who saw the Toney bout last week, what did you think of James? Yeah, I know it was Rydell Booker, but Toney looked pretty good, and in great shape @227 ! He was solid, didn't look fat at all. I think with the state of the Heavyweights, he has a real good shot. Vitaly would give him hell, but other than that, I think he could pick apart anyone in the RING top ten. Not bad for a guy who was written off a few years back.

Bronx, I agree with you but did you hear the latest about the injury to his left arm? He'll be out for 3 months in rehab. Maybe fight again in Feb or March as opposed to the Dec. 18th date HBO was setting up for him.
I'm wondering if maybe his body is starting to break down on him? He just had that long layoff from that leg injury & now this. You think Vitali would be too much for him? Toney calls him a Russian Frankenstein - Vitali sure would have motivation in that fight! ![]() |

I think Vitaly would give him the hardest time of the top tier heavyweights, but I do think Toney would have a good chance. I could see it being similar to the Jirov bout, with Toney coming on strong at the end. No way James KO's him though, especially if Lennox couldn't do it. I'd see it ending in close split decision...could go either way.

Well if you was impressed with him then your going to be even more impressed with him after reading this.
http://www.maxboxing.com/kim/kim092904.asp Fighting through that injury is unheard of! big ups to him for taking it like a man and not even really complaining after the fight. |

What I like about Toney is that he's a bonafide bada$$. I've never heard him reply, when asked who he wants to fight, "well, I have to talk with my promoter...talk with my manager...talk with channel XYZ..." , he comes right out and calls out...well...everyone. He wants to knock out the world, which is cool, don't know for sure if he's ever backed out of a fight or refused an opponent.
I thought it was funny when he almost got into a fist fight with Jirov after the Booker bout (Byrd said it was Jirov in the audience who was taunting him), standard James Toney ![]() |

Toney live
I was at the fight. Toney looked good. If he had a heavyweight knockout punch he'd be great. But he hit Rydell with everything and the best he could do is make Rydell touch his knee down once. I love Toney's style but I don't think he can take down a big, tough heavy weight.
