Win for Ruiz?

I didn't see Saturday's card. Did anyone who actually saw the Ruiz-Golota fight believe that Ruiz deserved the decision? How could Golota knock Ruiz down twice, see the ref take a point away from Ruiz, and still lose the decision?

I will be watching the fight later tonight for the first time and will post my thoughts tomorrow some time hopefully. It is strange that he won after the knockdowns and point deduction, most people seem to think Golota had it in the bag. But somehow reason Ruiz pulls it out of the bag again.

The Ruiz Golota fight was actually pretty good - (for a Ruiz fight) -

The second knock-down Vs Ruiz was more of a push/slip than a knock-down (though, I'm sure the first knock-down probably still had some after effects lingering) -

The first knock-down was a great right hand by Golota - (though he never seemed to set Ruiz up for it after that) -

Golota was clearly ahead after 8 rounds - Though, I would say Golota was simply inactive over the last 5 rounds and that cost him (he won the 11th in my view....which I thought would have sealed the victory for him...)...Yet I still thought it would be close...

Ruiz seemed to land the more telling shots in the last 5 rounds which is what won him the close decision...

The fight could have went either way in my opinion.....but Ruiz has benefited from a number of "his way" calls.....so I was pulling for Golota......The one judges verdict of 116-111 (I think)....was way off...

Well, it was better than I'd expected. In the end I would say Ruiz was the fair winner for a number of reasons. Firstly, he was more aggressive than Golota throughout the whole fight. To me Golota should have shown the same aggression and he would have had Ruiz in trouble. When Ruiz kept coming in low, Golota should have used the uppercut as a deterrent, but he hardly ever used it.

Secondly, Ruiz landed the better punches. Golota landed more in the fight and in almost every round he landed more punches than Ruiz, but Ruiz caught Golota with a lot more powerful shots and better punches on the whole. Golota was effective with the jab for the majority of the fight but he needed more combinations. Who knows whether Ruiz chin could have stood up to more of the same shots like the first one that floored him in the 2nd round.

And lastly, Golota should have had at least one point deducted, if not more. I lost count of how many times the ref said 'one more foul and I'm taking a point away'. We expected a dirty fight and boy did we get one. Judging by the standards set by taking a point away from Ruiz, the ref should have deducted from Golota on a couple of occasions in my opinion for worse offences.

Boxing is great as it's all about opinion, and many people will say Golota won the fight. And no one could really argue because most of those rounds were very tough to call. But for me, Ruiz deserved to win but you have to wonder what could have happened had Golota stepped up a gear and tested the chin of Ruiz a lot more.

And meade, this is only from memory and might be wrong, but I think the cards went 114-111, 113-112, 114-111 or something similar. I don't remember a 116-111, but if there was, that was a terrible scorecard and very wide of the mark.

Right Dave, 114-111. 113-112 and 114-111 for Ruiz.

Dave, yeah you are probaby right....I was going off memory myself....But even the 114-111 scorecards were a little far off for me - Especially considering 2 knock-downs and a 1pt deduction - That alone puts Golota up 3rds -

And how close the rest of the fight was...I just don't see how Ruiz could have won enough to give himself a 3 round advantage at the end - They are saying that Ruiz won 9 of the 12 rounds then...(because Golta has a plus 3 just from the knockdowns and 1pt deduction) -

I don't buy that at all - After six rounds - Golota had clearly won 4 of them (IMO) - and he clearly won the 11th as well - (or it might have been the 10th...either the 10th or 11th)...

I was at the fight this past weekend and viewed the fight live. From my perspective I felt Golota won easily. Ruiz did more holding than punching and I felt Golota fought the best anyone could against a fighter like Ruiz. I scored the fight 116-111 for Golota. Most people in attendance were appalled at the decision and agreed Golota won the fight. I have yet to re-watch the fight on t.v. to see if it changes my perspective. In my opinion this is just another example of the bullsh*t boxing has become. Another fight that was questionable was the Byrd/McCline Fight. I scored that fight and had McCline winning it by 1. I agree it was close but I felt McCline was the more aggressive. That will be another fight i will look forward to re-watching. One thing that was clear is that Holyfield is finished. He needs to hang it up before he damages himself to much.

The Boxing Times scorecard had Golota winning by a narrow margin 113-112, with Golata's three- point round in the second stanza proving to be the difference. Ron Borges had it a draw.

The Boxing Times gave the edge to Byrd 7 rounds to 5, 114 to 112. Ron Borges had McCline winning, 114-113.

Most of the people I talked to that watched the fight had Golota and McCline ahead on their scorecards. I didn't watch the PPV card (waste of money) so all I can go by is what I've read and heard. But, it looks like the wire services had mixed results.
