Mosley vs. Wright II

As everyone is aware Shane Mosely is facing Winky Wright for a rematch this weekend. I wanted to find out how many people actually give Mosely a shot. I don't think Mosely has a chance in H#ll to pull off a win against a fighter like Wright. Mosely has been past his prime for sometime and in the last match this was readily apparent. I wanted to find out if anyone else concurs (for morons like thebadguy this means agrees) with me on this point of view.

if Mosely fights the entire fight the same way he fought the last round and a half during their first fight, he CAN beat Wright.

But I don't think he can do this, and I think it is a bad matchup for Mosley. Wright is basically a stronger version of Vernon Forest, but a southpaw.

Shane must fight on the inside all night, use his handspeed.

I don't think Shane has much of a shot to win either. Winky's a lefty, defensive fighter who's also been @ 154 I think for his entire career - just a bigger man than Shane. Even if Shane looks & does better than back in March, it's doubtful it will be enough to take the title away by decision & I really doubt he could knock out Wright!

I think Forrest took too much out of Shane and he's pretty much just gone passed his prime. I don't see too much change from the last fight. It'll be closer, but I think as the fight wears on, Shane will just run out of steam and be a sitting duck for Winky to pound on and get the decision.

The fighters of today fight much more infrequently than the fighters of the past. I believe Shane was a real talent for the first 3/4 of his career. More of a Lightweight, Jr. Welterweight, etc., Shane had the combination of speed, power and overall athleticism than put him in a mode similar to Roy Jones and Zab Judah. What's amazing to me is how these guys just suddenly seem to lose it during the course of a single fight!

Can one knockout loss (even without a lot of punishment) spell the end of the line physically? Or is it mental as people like George Foreman believe?

What we saw when these guys were on top wasn't an illusion. Perhaps if they fought as much as the Old-Timers, they'd have records more like 66-4-2 (instead of 33-3). It has been said by many historians that "Back in the day" fighters really learned their craft. Even the journeymen knew all the tricks in the book.

I'm not saying this to knock today's fighters. As a fan, you WANT to believe you're seeing the best - you want to believe you're seeing all-time greats in the making. "Back in the day" you could have chosen DOZENS of fighters to fill the "Pound-for-Pound" rankings. Today, you have to reach a bit.

Getting back to Mosley, I think his day has come and gone. Had he come around in the 80's he probably would have been a millionaire with quite a bit of TV exposure. I think Winky should handle him fairly easily. The only curiosity from where I'm sitting is will he get stopped, and will he continue afterward.

Switching Trainers was a step in the right direction. But you are not going to erase 20 years of bad habits in a few months. His punches now tend to just bounce off of the heavier opponents. Much like Oscar...(Hee Haw La Hoya)

I think Mosely has enough left and is smart enough to make this a different fight. The odds are still in Wright's favor... it just depends on whether or not Mosely can avoid fighting Winky's fight.
