Who buys this PPV crap?

I'm curious. Is anyone here going to fork out $50 to watch these two fight? What kind of person spends this kind of money to watch TV? Why does anyone buy this?

I watched Lewis-Klitschko on HBO. It was free and a more promising spectacle. I really don't understand why people pay money for this. If they didn't, it would be on free tv (or HBO).

We're not talking about a super-fight here. I admit I payed to go to the cinema and watch Ali-Marciano. That was something different. I can see the appeal of a 'big' fight but not all Heavyweight Championship fights are what I would call 'big' fights. (Unless you count Kirk Johnson, but that is 'big' and fat, not 'big' and fight).

Even Lewis-Tyson was a 'big' fight. It stunk and I admit I was sucked in by the hype. It was my only PPV purchase ever and I can't see myself ever buying another one. (Although if they ressurect Mickey Ward - Arturo Gatti it would be worth it).

So please explain to me why people would pay to see Klitschko (a man who didn't beat the champion to become the champion) fight Williams (a man who beat a washed-up former champion/rapist). I want to understand how people's minds work.

Thank you.

If fight fans boycotted these PPV shows they'd likely still make a ton of money from the casual sports fans with money to burn. I do wish this one was on regular TV. No way am I gonna fork over more money for digital cable and then pay 50 for PPV.

I have always hated PPV. It robs many fight fans of the opportunity to see good matches and generaly drives the price of the sport up at all levels.

As to who buys this crap? Well, sadly, ... me. I have to admit that I paid for Tyson-Lewis. I know it wasn't the best bout, but I did actualy enjoy it and did not feel ripped off at the time (My dad and I split the ticket). That was however my first and last purchase.

Even back when it seemed like I bought all of the PPVs, I wouldn't have bought this one. It's might be for what many peopel consider the HW championship (The Right title and all) but it's not a match up of Champion vs. #1 Contender. This is definately not Berrera-Morales 3.

I've pretty much gone on a boycot of PPVs now. Unless it's a huge match up (like Berrera-Morales 3 which I still didn't buy) I just won't do it anymore.

PPV is just insanely priced. I'm a wrestling fan too, and balked at paying for PPV's when I had the capability. (Ironically, the one I DID wind up buying, I was never actually charged for?!) Now I can't buy them anyway.

I've bought the PPV and it's already underway over here! I've seen Ricky Hatton totally dominate Ray Oliveira and stop him in the 10th round, and Wayne Alexander has fought to a decision victory. I've enjoyed it so far, still loads to come. It is only midnight over here and the Las Vegas card is set to begin at 2am, so there is still a bag full of action left to come.

PPV is all about value for money. If you don't believe you will get good value for money, you don't buy the PPV! It's as simple as that. Here in England everyone is rooting for Williams so there will probably be a lot of PPV buys, even from casual sport fans who don't have a particular interest in boxing.

If we (USA) got PPV packages like the one they had tonight in the UK, I'd be all over it. As it is, I'm not paying $50 for 2 boxing fights, unless they both are going to be (or at least have the potential to be) great fights.

Edit: Boxing Central says 4 total fights, but of course the first two aren't exactly PPV caliber fights at all. I would like to see Cotto fight, but not for $50.

In my home we have basic cable and that's it. No HBO. We even had to drop the package that included the Independent Film Channel, which really saddened me.

I never get PPV events. I can't afford them, but probably would not get PPV events even if we could. It's just absurd to pay so much for...television. I remember when TV was free, and I resent paying for it now, especially when I still have to wade through 15 minutes or more of commercials for every 1 hour of programming. And so much of what is on TV in the US these days is those damned stupid reality TV shows.

I know I see very little boxing on TV, but I'm just not going to go the pay-per-view route. Enough is enough.

I'd rather read a book.

Exactly! I was surprised that is fight was PPV, maybe that's why they threw Cotto on the card too, hoping more fans would buy it. We'll be able to see the replay before the Tarver fight next week anyway, I'm sure.
