This is going to be great...
This could possibly be one of the fights of the year...
Warren: Hatton-Tszyu is on! By Craig Watt Sports Network promoter Frank Warren today re-iterated that he has a verbal committment from Vlad Wharton the promoter of IBF Jr-Welterweight champion Kosta Tszyu to take on British mandatory challenger Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton in the Spring of 2005. After a week of claims and counter claims involving Kostya Tszyu himself Warren has issued an audio interview on his website with Wharton and hopes to make a formal announcement at a press conference this week in London. Originally March 5th in Manchester at the MEN Arena was touted as the fight date but Warren now concedes it will be later in the spring. He stated, " Maybe Kostya is trying to get a little bit more money from his promoter Vlad Wharton. I don't know, but I can assure you this fight will happen. I've done a deal with the Showtime network and the fight is on. It won't be in March. It will either be in April or May next year. I don't know where all this has come from and I haven't spoken to Kostya personally because it's not my place to do that - that's up to his promoter. But the deal as far as I understand it is done, as far as his promoter understands it it's done - and as far as Showtime understands, it's done. Showtime have the rights to Kostya. Gatti and Mayweather are both contracted to HBO TV - he can't fight them." Wednesday, December 15 2004 |

It won't happen. I'm from the UK and Frank Warren and Hatton are the 2 biggest con-men in boxing. Warren keeps announcing the fight 'is on', while Tszyu keeps denying a deal has been agreed. Warren is just begging for Tszyu to tell Hatton to forget about the fight.
The ideal situation for Frank Warren is to annoy Tszyu until he decides Gatti or Mayweather are a better option, leaving Tszyu having to vacate the IBF title so Hatton can beat another bum for the IBF crown. If this fight happens, I'll be absolutely shocked. In early 2003 we were promised by Warren and Hatton that a fight against Junior Witter (another English Light welter, who is arguably better than Hatton) was 'in Hatton's contract' for Summer 2003. It never happened. |

I was excited about that one too. Hattons an exciting fighter, but I'll also take Tszyu by KO, if it happens that is. Isn't there some issue where Hatton won't fight outside of the UK ? |

This is more Warren nonsense. Tszyu would, in my opinion, kill Hatton. That right hand is from the seventh plane of hell.
That fight is customed made for Tszyu, it's a shame it won't happen. I'd take Kostya in an early knockout, say inside of 3. Danny, what do you think old buddy? Who would do well here? Cheers!
