Basilio missing opponents pack
Stealing the idea from Dean Day, I have put together a pack of Carmen Basilio's opponents who are missing from the game. Thirty-four fighters have been rated, including a middleweight whom Basilio sparred in three exhibitions in 1957. A .txt document listing Basilio's complete record is also included.
Note: The fighters are contained in two separate .zip archives.

Yes. Next up: Don Jordan.
As I told the TBCB Ratings Group, my historical replay has reached the mid-forties. I've had to pause to restock the ranks of fighters. Any suggestions of late forties/early fifties boxers who need to be rated?

Well, as long as you are taking requests.
How about these and about 75 other Willie Pep Featherweight opponents: Joe Echevaria Ruby Garcia Joey Gatto Henry Vasquez Joey Silva Johnny Cockfield Blond Tiger Jackie Harris Connie Savoie Davey Crawford Sammy Parrota Abie Kaufman Johnny Compo Morris (Curley) Nichols Aaron Seltzer Joey Iannotti Abe Denner Nat Litfin The whole featherweight division could be nearly stocked just by running through his opponents in the 40s and 50s

The only one of these I've got rated so far is Joe Echevarria. A lightweight from Puerto Rico who fought from 1939 to 1943, he had a career record of 3-33-5 (2). He did little better in my replay.
Here he is.

David,
Good to see you around again. Why don't you package those two zip files into one and email it to me at gunsmoke@cornerwork.com for posting on the CornerWork site. Cheers, Mark

I've met Carmen several times over the years at the Boxing Hall of Fame. I have a couple of his autographs on the wall as well. If anyone out there in Title Bout Land, even tysonfan82, wants a great week/weekend of just boxing, make reservations to be in Canastota, NY early next June for induction week/weekend. Each year, I collect a fair share of autographs and get to talk with current and ex-boxers. Almost all are very nice and willing to sign nearly anything.
I would assume that every hotel room in the village of Canastota is reserved for that week/weekend (normally Wed- Sun). You will have to make reservations at the Turning Stone Casino or hotels in Rome, Utica, or Syracuse NY. Its a great time. MJ

Although I have never met him, I agree that Carmen Basilio is among the best men--the best human beings--ever to lace up a pair of boxing gloves. To get a sense of the man, read the interview with him from the Nov. 13, 1997, Cyber Boxing Zone Journal. (Scroll down for the interview.) He is candid, absorbing, and utterly without self-importance. Just to have the chance to replay Basilio's career is reason enough to be grateful for Title Bout.

Joey Iannotti
Hi,
I was browsing ur postings and I saw a reference to my dad. My dad is Joey Iannotti. Dad was a good featherweight and also jr lightweight contender in the late 30s and 40s. Dad boxed Willie Pep, Harry Jeffra, Lulu Contstantino, Johnny Compo, Aaron Seltzer. Dad had 4 great fights with Compo. In Sept 1941 after dad beat Joe Echeverria, the sports writers were hailing him as the coming featherweight champion. They said he would capture the diadem within the year. The war interrupted dad's career. I can answer any and all questions you may have about dad. He is still alive and was just 85yrs old in Oct. I can supply you with photos for the gallery if you would like. I would like to see some photos posted if you don't mind. Dad was managed by Jimmy DeAngelo and was a stablemate of Nathan Mann while DeAngelo was his manager also for a time. Dad was trained for a period of time by the great Johnny Dundee. If you can instruct me how to send photos, I will. I have some of dad and Dundee, dad and Benny Leonard. I hold all of dad's memorablilia and scrap books. Great reading whenever I open them. I met Aaron Seltzer cousin by accident in a dept store. He is 90yrs old and remembered all the fights he went to. Well thank you for now. Please Reply.. Ralph Iannotti |

Hi Ralph:
Thanks for stopping in! In case you didn't notice, while we talk about boxing here, the site mainly revolves around a boxing simulation game. That said, we would love to have you share any stories or photos of your dad that you care to. To post a photo on this message board it needs to be in a digital format. I just checked your father's record again, he had a very nice career prior to the war and fought quite a bit in my state of Connecticut. Mann (along with Pep) were great favorites of my grandfather who grew up in New Britain; it wouldn't surprise me if he actually saw one of your dad's bouts down in New Haven (although he mostly went to fights in Hartford). I don't believe your father was ever rated for this simulation game after his mention last year. Christopher
