5 Christmas and New Years Wishes for Boxing
Hey guys,
A merry Xmas and happy new year to you and your families and friends. I thought as a bit of fun I would post my top five wishes for boxing for 2005 in an ideal and perfect world. 1. Through some miracle a formation of ONE official worldwide ruling body for boxing much like FIFA for football (Soccer for you American boys). 2. An officially accepted corruption free, fair and plausable set of world rankings (in know this is turning into more of a fantasy than LOTR). 3. A stop to PPV event and a return to mainstream free TV channels for boxing on a regular basis (Yes I can her you cry this guy has totally lost it). 4. A Big reduction in weight classes. Maybe not as drastic as the the classic eight but time and time again we see the best fighters just moving through the weight divisions like trains stations on a train journey. (guys call the ambulance he is foaming at the mouth). 5. A realisation from fighters that to be active is a good thing. See a throwback to many more fighters and champions having 70,80,90,100 bout careers and where an active fighter is considered to be one like the young Mike Tyson not someone who fights three or four times a year. (thats it put him in the straitjacket he weil be much more comfortable). anyway lets hope Boxing and Title Bout has a good 2005. rgds Dean |

1) 17 divisions IS too many. 2) The Strawweight division should be eliminated today (preferably by noon) I have been rooting through this weight class to get a viable division going in the game and have noticed 2 things that I had never noticed before: 1) Wierd outcomes happen all the time at this weight. So much so, that to call any strawweight outcome an upset is an overstatement. If you bet, NEVER lay money on a strawweight bout. 2) While there are a few exceptions to the rule (guys that seem to be natural straweights and remain in the division most of their career) what you mainly see are two types of fighters in this division. Those that fight for a few years and then get out of the sport or those that fight a few years as a straw then get hammered when they "step up" in weight. (even to the Jr Fly level). I cannot think of another division, even jr fly and fly, where the norm is to see the division fighters get their heads handed to them when they try to move up literaly a few pounds in weight. This leads me to believe that this division is littered with guys that should not be in pro boxing at all. They are only in pro boxing because they can and are willing to torture their bodies to squeeze into this unnatural weight class. (appologies to Rachman, Nico Thomas. Magramo, Lin and others that are in fact good fighters - but I believe they could do well at fly or jr fly anyway) In my humble opinion, the strawweight division should be put out of its misery right now. And anyone ever hinting at the need for a Jr Strawweight division should be shot on sight. That said, the powers that be will never eliminate it and I am having a blast rating these lilliputions. ![]()

Sorry, Conn. I guess the strawweight division isn't one of the more popular ones after all. Funny, I would have thought a fly was lighter than a piece of straw.

They say hate is the opposite of love rather than indifference. No one apparently even cares enough about it to recognize the silliness of its existance and push for its demise.
I guess that's the strongest arguement for getting rid of the darn thing. ![]()

What then shall we do with the Dust-moteweights and Microbeweights? On the other hand, maybe we should have a behemothweight class for the guys who keep breaking those little stools in their corner.
