This may be of interest to some....
I never played Data Boxing so don't know how good/bad/indifferent it was/is.
Anyway I found this website www.timetravelgames.com. Looking at the description and screenshots on the forum it doesn't look a patch on TBCB nor is the forum visited very regularly |

Yes, I'm not sure how good their boxing game is but is $35 really that far out of line these days? I mean if anyone has a PS 2 or X-Box system, their new games are $50 a pop & they seem to mass produce those games - new ones coming out all the time!

I first got Data Boxing in card/table form in 1978. Didn't play it much after awhile as I got tired of dice rolling. I picked up computer version from Anthony at Time Travel when it debuted a few weeks back and have enjoyed it. The game has fewer fighters and rating categories than TBCB but the creator, Dr. Julian Compton, has done a lot of research, especially in the HW category, and the game does a good job of simulating individual boxers and recreating specific matchups a la Ali-Frazier, Patterson-Liston. The main "flaw" in my mind is that the computer game still relies on the board game's three dice (3-18) results cards/charts which can occasionally lead to some fluky knockouts and stoppages. Also, the judges' scoring could be improved.
All in all, my opinion is that Data Boxing does some things better and TBCB is superior in other ways. I enjoy both games and wish that each could incorporate some of the features that the other uses. Anthony, Dr. Compton and Don Mankowski (programmer) have indicated that more fighters and patches/updates are forthcoming but I guess that depends upon how sales go. I think it's worth $35 for serious boxing fans but I can imagine that some of you diehard Trunzo fans may not enjoy it as much and might just as soon wait till TBCB2 comes out before taking the plunge.

I dont know if you know but PS2 and Xbox games Are worth the 50 dollars they have Graphics Indeph game play and now online game play, 35 dollars for a game that looks simple with no good graphics looks like some Damn Dos program Is not cutting it, You can't compare Ps2 to that, adn yes 35$ is a pretty deep for a game that dont show any screenies or comes with any demos. |

Did i mention that you also don't rent it you buy it i believe, and wow its yours on CD for the same price, OOTP charge another 10$ i believe for a CD version which of course you still have to get a third party's permission to play. Heard this all before haven't we Eric I myself have mailed the guys at data boxing a few times and we both agree there is room for both games in the market and as i said to him anything that will attract new fight fans has to be good for all parties. When you get competition the winner is normally us the customer. Hey maybe Eric we should switch sides and try kicking arse on the other side of the fence. I am open to bribes are you my friend ? Remember the old saying "A pat on the back never paid the rent" Last edited by wildhawke11 : 01-03-2005 at 04:36 PM. |

Yes, I realize those games have fancy graphics but I've simmed fights on Title Fight boxing from December of 1998 to December of 2003 when I bought the new Title Bout. Do you know of anyone who still plays with the same PS 2 or X Box game for 5 years? They have to keep buying new games because they get old after a while. Granted, they can buy used games @ a discount but it's still more money being spent to entertain themselves. When our boxing games are installed, we're set & don't need expensive add ons every month or so to keep it fresh & interesting. I just picked up the 2004 Roy Jones boxing game for PS 2 for $20 but it only has like 40 fighters total in 5 or 6 weight classes. Also consider the $150 to $200 cost of these gaming systems just to get started & then it's $20 to $50 a pop per new game. I know a # of people who play these games & they have a lot more than just 1 game! I seriously doubt anyone here went out to buy a computer just to sim bouts using the TB game. My point was that on average, we'll enjoy a well made boxing sim longer & cheaper over the long run than those games made mostly for kids who may not care as much about accuracy as long as it looks good. Plus there's a big difference between a fully developed commercial title that comes with packaging, a manual etc versus a download... Yes, TB cost similar, but the fact is, TB, from the look of the other game, is a far superior title. |

Wild TB Came out with a demo, screenies and all type of information, what do databoxing have? I want to see what the game is like but im not going to pay 35 bucks and get something thats trash, All im saying is A. Need Screenies or demo, B. Need more detail about the game, saying how you got in touch with the owners of the orignal game isn't telling me much about the game.
But like you said wild, its room for both games, and Lord knows I will love to try another version of a boxing sim. LOL At Wild! |

After discovering their location about 5 years ago, I immediately contacted them, asked questions about their "then in the making boxing game," etc. They are great people, just like the OOTP Developments team. Being a fan of Title Bout, I never did follow through and purchase their game. After all, with the support Title Bout has behind it (from the developers to the people of this discussion board)... how could there be a better sim on the market? The pictures alone that can be downloaded of various fighters, title belts, etc. is incredible. Plus, with the gamer's input, Title Bout Championship Boxing is continually evolving, developing, etc. I myself am in the middle of developing my boxing universe (set in the "Roaring 80's), so I really don't want to have to start something over - all the way from scratch at this point. That's how I see it, anyway. I won't lie and say I'm not curious or haven't been thinking about comparing the games "just to see." My wife, however, wouldn't be too happy about me spending $35 bucks right now - just because. She knows I love Title Bout because I started playing earlier versions (the board game) back in 1981. Telling her I just bought the latest edition of Title Bout wouldn't faze her in the least. Buying another boxing game that I'd probably play a dozen or so times (just to compare) probably would. Just my .02 cents! Jim |

Anyway I have the 35 dollars but its not like it was last year where I can waste it, you know? I want to test, Read, and learn about this game before I buy it, and that goes for TBCB II, TBCB Roleplay and Fight Night Round 2 (coming in march LOL) But one thing I don't have to worry about any more and that PPV's Because I just Signed on with My cable company to get All PPV Events Every month For 24 dollars! Data boxing or TB, one time cost to get the entire game (unless there are updated versions) well under $100. To play with the PS 2 or X-Box systems & games, etc. you're talking about $100's of dollars. Last edited by hamed : 01-03-2005 at 11:35 PM. |

Hamed...
Why would I buy a game with no Screenies and no demo? I dont care if its 5 dollars what sense do it make? It has no Demo, no Screenshots, No detail about the game, except of his story of how he found the creater. |
