From the Manual

Had some time on my hands, so I decided to peruse the manual. I settled on the section relating to creating/editing fighters and was somewhat surprised to find a certain passage within the section covering endurance which seemed to be instructing the gamer to alter his fighter's endurance rating depending on how many rounds he was going to fight. This seemed very odd advice to me. Has anyone else had any thoughts on this? Was this a misprint? (Someone with time on his hands should really re-edit the manual.)

That is surprising. I assumed these fighters were rated for a 10 round fight & then the game would adjust accordingly up or down if it was less or more than 10 rounds. On the old cards, the rating was a # like 80 or 90 & that was their endurance for a 10 round fight. If it was a 12 or 15 round fight, multiply their rating by 1.2 or 1.5 respectively. Reduce their END for fights under 10 rounds (.4 .8, etc.)

That was switched to have END ratings for 10 & 15 round fights. Like 9/13, etc.

The manual tells us
The computer will auto adjust the endurance for fights that are 10 rounds or over.

For fights of 6 rounds or under YOU adjust the endurance of fighters to a 5
for fights of 8 rounds or under YOU adjust endurance to a 6 or 7.

I have not tested this because i only use 12 round or over fights

Dont know why this is so -- weird i agree though

That is a little bit surprising, if the game can adjust up, wouldn't be easy to have it reduce endurance as well?? Maybe even a better solution for the future would be to leave endurance as a static number and have the fighters aggression be manipulated by the sim engine, effectively making them busier for shorter distance fights and pace themselves a bit for the longer fights....just a thought.

Here's the passage:

"...If you are rating a fighter and plan to fight him in bouts under 10 rounds, give him an endurance rating of "5" for bouts scheduled between 3 and 6 rounds and "6" or "7" for bouts scheduled for 8 rounds..."

I fight a lot of 3 to 8 round fights with Beginners and Pre-Primers, so this is a big surprise to me. How can you run an alternate universe if you have to alter each fighter's endurance every fight? Clearly the designers did not anticipate AUs. I hope this is fixed in the next edition.

Well i always thought the idea of reducing down a fighters endurance for fights under 10 rds was a bit silly anyway.

I guess after thinkig about it I agree, it should not be reduced, as your certainly don't train less for a 6 round fight, one would hope anyway. I do think as stated in my earlier post that the "pace" of the fight should be quicker as you wouldn't hold back knowing you were only going 4-6 rounds. I wish I had a solid thought on how to incorporate this, but I really don't, unless in shorter fights there were more punches per round, but then that would probably throw off the damage model.......So I guess considering everything it may be best left alone.
