Should My Champ Retire As Champ?

Hey Guys,

I would like to get your opinion on something. I am running a linear Universe with fictional fighters that began in 1900. It is now 1930. I have used a pretty stable ageing system to move fighters in and out. It's not perfect but it works great for what I am doing.

It's actually simple. Every fighter enters at the age of 20 with a "beginner" career stage. He fights at that stage for two years. At the age of 22 he is switched to "Pre-prime". He fights there for two years and then at the age of 25 he is moved to "prime". He fights in "prime" until the age of 36 when he is switched to "post prime".

At "post prime" he begins to accumalate points for each fight (Win=2, Draw=3, SD Loss/MD Loss=5, UD Loss=7, TKO Loss/KO Loss= 10). When he reaches twenty five points, HE MUST RETIRE.

This works well because how well he fights, determines how long he stays around. Some go out the same year they reach "post prime". Some hang around for a while. Either way, I have stood strong on the manditory retirement at 25 points (He may return for short comeback using the same point system, but coming out of retirement he can only accumalate 8 points, which means one KO Loss and he is done. Or he could get four wins).

I share all of that to say that My GCB World Champion, Luis "Mad Man" Sudangi, was set to "post prime" a couple of (in game) years ago. As 1930 comes to a close he is still the reigning Champion. However, his "post prime points" just reached twenty six!

The rule is simple: at twenty five points there is a manditory retirement. Should I have him:
a) Retire as Champ. His record is 46-2 with 42 ko's.
b) Have him continue to fight until he loses the title.
c) Have him retire and bring him back out of retirement to fight the new champ a little later.

What would you do?

Yes have him retire on top! I always think this is fun now and then because it adds to the legend of a fighter and more importantly you can have a great fun tournament of 4, 8 or 16 boxers to fill the vacant title.

And then later you can always have him make a comeback to face the new pretender to his crown.

When you look at history, only Jeffries, Tunney, Louis and Marciano retired while still champion. And Jeff and Joe came back. Most fought until they lost the title, mainly because they needed the money from title defenses because they'd spent most of what they had earned. Sad but true. Was your champ a spendthrift? Did he blow everything on hot cars and hotter women? How smart is your guy?

In the end, it's your AU and you decide. Great thing about this game is there are no hard and fast rules. He can retire and open a bar in Brooklyn or stay in the game for one more pay-day too many.

One neat twist to this scenerio is that in my universe there are only four champs (I only use heavyweights).

I have the GCB World Champion. The one that is due to retire.

I then have three Regional Champs:
Western Continental Champion
Central Continental Champion
Eastern Continental Champion

I have all of my fighters divided by their nationality into the three areas of the world.

The only way that a current Regional Champ can go for The World Title is to forfeit/vacate his regional title. This creates a tournament for the regional title.

If The World Title is vacated, I'm sure that each Regional Champ would "want" to go for the big Gold!! If that happens, according to our long standing rules all three would have to vacate their current titles!

Which means that in one calendar year I would have all four titles up for grabs in four different tournaments! That actually sounds like a cool thing to me.

This is going to get interesting...hey I love this game!!!!!

Who was it again that didn't want to use their imagination to play this game?
