Samuel Peter

What are your feelings on Samuel Peter?

I like his power but a skilled boxer will give him trouble. He has a weak defense and is very slow.

Also, does anyone have him rated? I would like to have it if you do.

His fight is fixin to start i will check back.

He showed a lot of improvement since his last fight against Williams. I think with a few more fights, he could land himself a title just off of his shear power alone. Just for the record, how did that lump that Peter beat ever knock out Gomez? I realize there's the "on any given day..." crap, but that guy was a putz.

His power is set to a nine, it may just be me but i think it should be a little higher does anyone else agree with me?

Peter

I'm the one who originally rated Peter. It could be raised to 10, but his punch landed figure would have to be dropped by two. I used 9, because he carried some very ordinary fights the full distance in a few bouts.

I'll reload him an issue an update tonight.

I changed his power to a 10 and tweeked some other ratings. He has pretty good power, I'm not certain that he will keep it into the later rounds. Plus, I don't think that he will fair well against guys with better handspeed and boxing abilities.

He is far too slow.

Samuel Peter

There are so many fighters available in which we know enough to rate them, I will shy away from using someone so early in their careers. We know very little of Peter. We need to see how he handles adversity, such as a power shot to the chin, and a pure boxer who is able to frustrate him.

I will look forward to watching this fighter over the next few years, but I think it's too early to throw definitive numbers out there.

One, its all about fun.

Two, A current rating isn't what he may acheive, but is a reflection/opinion of where he is now.

Three, if I don't do it, someone else will.

I wonder if Yanqui Diaz would have fared better in a 20-ft ring? Peter won't be so fortunate in future bouts. Chris Byrd would surely never agree to a 16-ft ring.

That's another weird thing about this sport. Imagine baseball parks that had different distances between the mound and homeplate? Seems to me the Queensberry Rules called for a 20-ft square. Anyone here read them lately?

Byrd is pretty much just hanging on by a thread. If you look at his last 4 fignts, he could have lost, or in the opinion of some, did lose all of them. That said, Peter would be crazy to meet someone like him in a standard sized ring, just as crazy has Diaz's people were in placing him in a situtation were he couldn't win.

Anyway, Byrd is with King, so his options are very limited. Peter is an HBO fighter, so will eventually face Vitali or whoever beats Vitali. If Lewis returns, late this fall, Peter will have to wait behind both him and Rahman.

Always wondered the same thing Cap. It always eemed strange to hear of two fighters and their camps discussing the size of the ring. If a guy holds the title he can dictate whether he fights in a phone booth or a soccer feld! Shouldn't happen IMHO. But different commisions seem to have different rules-why am I surprised?

But then baseball "cheats" as well....grounds keepers harden the infield if the team is fast on the bases.....water the infield if the other team is fast to slow them....let the grass grow a little longer to slow a ball down....

Hey! You guys play with this whiffle ball...we'll play with the Indian Rubber one!

Byrd and Samuel Peter

Why would Byrd care if it was a 16 foot ring? Byrd doesn't run or clinch. Also, during most Byrd fights, the commentators will tell you how small the basement was in which Byrd trained. Training in such a small ring, Byrd learned to dodge blows by shifting his body in one place.

Samuel Peter vs. Byrd would be an interesting fight. However, Byrd is too fast and skilled and would beat Peter as easily as he did Tua. But, I think Samuel Peter belongs to the next generation of heavyweights, and we are not likely to see him matched up against any of the current champions.

Hmmm...funny I just saw this guy the other night on cable. This impression is just from what I saw...

Peter appears to be a crude but very strong heavyweight who has all the technique of a slasher from the early period of boxing.

I could be wrong but I think the fight public is being set up with this guy. The one fight I saw him in he fought in a ring so small two Chihuahua's might have trouble negotiating it. Was that guy he was fighting a top 10 heavyweight...or even top twenty? What can he learn from beating up a big guy in a small ring? I would also question his conditioning. It looked to me like this guy is carrying too mucho body fat for a younger fighter. (he's 6'2 and 250 and looks like a small offensive lineman).

What can I say? Time will tell the tale but he will not be able to get any top heavyweight to agree to such ridiculous pre-fight conditions if they have a half decent manager so I hope he knows enough about ring movement and I hope he has the stamina to compete.

But there is always a "puncher's chance". Big hitters can change history and beat the odds.
