TBCB Random Fighter Generator News and Releases

Hey guys, I'm glad to have finally kept my word for once! Hooray for making deadlines!

Okay, here's the deal. Chris and I got together and we tried making that "secret utility" I talked about, but that failed miserably. So let's not speak anymore about it. (I know that probably made everyone curious, but trust me, it's better we pretend I never brought it up.)

However, we did change almost every formula for the generation process. A bell curve now exists in almost every rating, hopefully providing more realistic results. However, as I warned in my previous post, this is basically a "beta" release... I'm not ready to call it "done," or even the next full release of the RFG.

Coincidentally, while working on the new formulas, I found a few problems that were existing that I wasn't aware of. I fixed those while working on the new stuff.

So, here's what we're doing. We're releasing TWO versions of the RFG. The first is v3.3, which is simply correcting a few mistakes from v3.2. Grab it no matter what version you already have, because one of the mistakes was more serious than it looks.

The other version we're releasing is dubbed v4.a. That one has the new formulas, so the results may be very, very skewed. Or, they may be very, very realistic. I don't know, and I hoping that you all will be willing to make a dozen or so boxers each and tell me how it looks.

The main thing I want to be sure I'm told is if any rating falls outside the TBCB range. That's my number one concern, and I'm 99.9% sure it won't happen, but you can't be too careful when dealing with formulas. Beyond that, I want to know a summary of the overall ratings of the guys you're getting. You know, whether you're getting a lot of low guys, a lot of high guys, a lot of average guys, a healthy mix, whatever.

In my standard 5-man field test for new releases, I noticed that the overall ratings were pretty low. I had three guys at 3, one at 4, and one at 2. I'm hoping that's an anomoly, but I can't be sure until I get some more in. I'm going to do another, bigger field test tomorrow probably, just to make sure. (It will give me a good excuse to start a new division in my fictional universe anyway.)

Again, you may not want to mix anyone from v4.a with your current groups or universes. Nothing is going to get corrupted or anything, but these guys may have some wacky ratings that just don't look good. If you don't want to bother with any of that, then just grab v3.3, since it's totally stable and follows the formulas you know and love already.

Thanks a million again, guys. Remember, Chris and I may have made the program, but you all help refine it to perfection.

Bump is me being bitter about not getting a sticky.

Seriously, bumping is just basically putting a pointless post in a thread to force the thread to the top of the forum. I like having the latest releases on the front page so people (especially new buyers of TBCB) can get the RFG.

Thanks for all the support guys, I really appreciate it, and Chris does too. But, I kinda see why they don't. I mean, I'm constantly updating the thing, so they never know when I'm going to whip out a new version. That would mean they would have to keep stickying and unstickying my posts, which could get annoying.

Speaking of which, I haven't gotten around to my expanded field test yet. However, as there seem to be no complaints about the new formulas, I'll probably give my seal of approval for these and just slap the 4.0 tag on it next time. I won't quote a date because I'm working on a project for IGN, but that should be done Thursday or Friday. I'll be taking the weekend off for anything considered work due to the Super Bowl (stupid Pats eliminating my Steelers), but on Monday I should be fresh as a... something.

Go Eagles, I guess.
