Newbie to TBCB
I have done some reading about this game. From what I understand it is not a career game but more of s historical game.
Having said that, can we start our divisions up with fictional fighters with no w/l/d records? |

I focus mainly on historical fights but yes you can start up divisions comprised of entirely fictional fighters with no record. There are even some fictional fighter files and a fictional fighter creator you can download.
Enjoy.

There are 17 weight classes from strawweights up to Heavyweight (which bothers the heck out those purists among us) - I use all 17 classes, some opt for the traditional 8 (fly, bantam or paper, feather, light, welter, middle, Light heavy and heavy - although I believe light heavy was an add-on early in the modern era, so the term "purist" realy is pretty relative) Ask Bear, he'll know. Welcome and ask all the questions you like, this game and community are great fun! Christopher

Stats
And to answer another of your questions. Yes, the game keeps stats--lots of them. In addition to a career fight log for each boxer, it keeps track of rounds fought, stoppages, knockdowns, punching averages, etc. It also creates several different rankings, although its ranking system is the weakest part of its stats-keeping. In my opinion.

Welcome to the board ... check out the inside the ropes forum and you'll be able to read up on how some of us are working around the so-called no career play issue.
If you have half an imagination, then this is a great game. |

Go to this thread for the fictional fighter generator. At this time, it DOES NOT load them into the game. It will generate them, but you have to manually input them into the game.

There is a lot of debate about when the first lightheavyweight title fight took place. The class is said to be the brainchild of Chicago Promoter/newspaperman Lou Houseman who wanted a bridge between heavies and the 158 middleweight limit. Traditionally Jack Root has been considered the first title holder when he outpointed Kid McCoy 1903-04-22.
This has, been subject to much debate over the past 20 years. Some historians have found some sources indicating that an earlier Choynski McCoy bout was the first title fight. Herb Goldman has published wome articles on the topic in the 1980s in The Ring, and more recently in International Boxing Digest. IBRO newsletters have also discussed this topic. It took a while for the division to establish itself. Ketchel, for example, could have claimed the title but didn't because it was reatively meaningless at the time. Curiously the division was known as cruiserweight in England and you may at times see early references to "cruisers" in British publications. Don't confuse these with the weight class of today.
