Wiping out my hard drive ....
Okay tommorrow morning I am rebooting my whole computer ... too much crap on it ... seemed that I had too much memery used up to play Pirates ... pretty sad but that's the main reason
Now help me out that I'm not forgeting anything .... moved my database to a different computer, same with all my photos. Exported all my universes fighter files and moved them to another computer, just in case the database gets corrupted. Moved my spreadsheet. Unlicensed the game, wrote down my license. What am I forgetting??? I'll check in the a.m. before I do it, let me know if you see anything. |

License... Check (you did unlicense before you wiped your Hard disk didn't you??)
Database .... Check Image folder.... Check Saved Bouts, Tourneys etc.... To be confirmed Bouts folder.... to be confirmed (the HTML outputs of the bouts) Memo folder ... to be confirmed (the Fighter biographies) Universe Spreadsheet and paraphenalia... Check Operating System CD.... bugger I'm sure it will go fine.

didn't have any saved bouts or tourneys .... forgot about memo and bouts ... saved memo, not gonna save the bouts folder is way to big and Andreas said in another post that it wouldn't hurt anything to wip it out.
Thanks for the checklist Mark. Now I just gotta figure out how to do it or spend the time on the phone with tech support |

Yes ... and the good news is it runs now ... the bad news is that I thought I had saved my spreadsheet and had not.
My database is fine but now I'll have to spend the next week or so repairing my spreadsheet. |

I was wrong Bam Bam, Pirates still freezes on me. It looks great, like a modern version of the old Pirates game, which is still one of my all time favs. IMO it's nothing like CIV more RPG.
I'm reselling it on EBay now since I can't buy a new computer this year. Here's the link if anyone is interested http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...e=STRK:MESE:IT |

Yeah probably, but my lack of computer savvy prevents me from knowing what I need and my lack of extra funds, prevents me from buying it.
Two car payments, kid in Catholic High School, wife and kid going to Manning Passing Academy barely allowed me to buy Pirates, let alone extra equipment to play it !!!!! |

I intend to buy a new computer next year sometime, so I believe it will have to wait until then. Just curious though if I have low ram or need a new graphics card, do I take the tower into a computer shop?
How do I tell what my graphics card is now and how much ram I have? |

Depends on your operating system. If you have XP (and some other flavors of windows I think...) you go to the control panel, select System, go to the Hardware tab and select the Device Manager button, expand the branch labeled Display Adaptors and it should be listed there.

Okay, I have Intel extreme graphics controller .... Don't know how much ram I have ... I had the same problem when I tried to play Rise of Nations ... it kept telling me that my video drivers needed updating, but I couldn't find any updates.
With Pirates it just shuts down to the desktop. It'll load, play for a minute or two then I try and do something and boom shuts down. |

Your problem is that you're trying to play with your computer's included onboard video (the Intel extreme graphics controller)
I'm pretty sure that's the conflict. I believe the Readme states that Pirates! won't play with that video chipset. |

How do I find out those things? I know it's a Dell Dimension 2300 and I bought it in 2003. But not sure how to find out the specs or what you mean by specs .... and power supply?
Thanks for the help, like I said not computer savvy at all |

Mh, go to the start menu, click run, in the box type, DXDIAG, hit enter, the screen that loads will have all the information about your computer. If you want, you could jot down the RAM,processor speed, and chip types, and direct x version, then everyone here can take a look and come up with a solution.
