The Great White Hopes
New book out entitled The Great White Hopes by Graeme Kent. Just got it today from Amazon. I have only flicked through it so far but it looks a good read although much of it is going over well-trodden ground. Thought this might be interest to some.

Well, you know ONE guy who's interested! Actually, you probably know several, right here.) It's funny, but most of the books I see on boxing are English. I do have one old book on the Whit Hope Era, by John Lardner, called "White Hopes and Other Tigers". It' was written around 1950, and it's a good one. In the photo section, there is a four-part page which has Jack Johnson, Luther McCarty, Frank Moran and Carl Morris. Carl Morris was the first fighter heavily promoted as the "Great White Hope". Morris was probably about the fourth, fifth, sixth or seventh (McCarty, Gunboat Smith and Jess Willard, I rated ahead, in that order)best White Hope from 1912, the year I rated EVERYONE who was a significant heavyweight. Thanks for the info. Steamboat
