ESPN Classic goes to 5 boxing shows weekly

Just wanted to let everyone know that Espn Classic just started playing an old fight every weeknight at 6pm EDT except Fridays. I for one was getting bored of just one show a week. More shows means they will have to bust out some different fight films for variety's sake.

Anyone hear any news about the planned Don King Boxing channel? I know that Don's lawyers are cracking down on the boxing video sites lately, maybe for this reason.

Thanks for the news. I've been looking to move my fight collection to DVD, this will save me from having to convert old VHS tapes. I just hope they start showing the entire fights and not just highlights. I Tivo'd the Ali/Foreman match last week and two rounds were cut out, same with Duran Buchanan. Well, at least it's something, a chance too see the oldtimers go at it.

I am enjoying this. I am 25 years old and missed most of the great fights. I watched Marciano and Moore the other day. I was surprised at the size difference between the two. Moore was quite a bit bigger than Marciano. For a guy who fought at middleweight he sure got big at heavy. I have read on these forums that Marciano would take two punches to land one. After watching that fight(atleast in that fight) he tried to dodge most of the punches thrown at him. He was a little too slow with his movement but he did try to move. So as for the thoery of him taking punches to land them, i find it untrue(atleast in that fight). Also, Moore had one hell of a chin. Marciano landed some solid punches that he just shook off.

Ive never heard that about Marciano (taking two to land one). I can see how someone would think that though. I HAVE heard that about Joe Frazier many times however.

I think Marciano was basically a fighter basically fit that description in the beginning of his career. After he developed, however, he did use upper body movement, roll with punches, parry them, etc.

I think its a great thing espn classic has goin with boxing, but they spoon feed us, how bout some old hearns, duran, leonard, pryor, curry, mccallum, saad-muhammed, etc fights. Ive seen ali vs frazier/foreman/and whoever else a million times. I'm usually pretty disappointed when I turn to espn classic only to find some old as bones fight tape with no audio and crappy lighting....

No kiddin. I believe he lost the fight. Can't remember who it was against. It was either Qawi or Edwards cause he lost his belt.

Catch the Foreman/Chuvalo and Frazier/Stander fights last night?

Stander had a beard on him. Frazier dropped bombs on the guy but he never hit the canvas. The one thing I have learned from watching these older fights that I kind of over looked is that the older fighters were a little "tougher" than fighters of today. However, the fighters of today have much better defense and boxing skills.

If I am correct, I believe ESPN bought the rights to the fight library owed by Jim Jacobs, which means they have TONS of fights they could show. I still don't think I've even seen Foreman/Frazier II or any Robinson/LaMotta bought (other than #6) shown yet. I've seen Ali/Blin on a lot though I used t like "The Way it as" and the show hosted by Marciano (forget what it was called) too.
It would be pretty cool of they set up a system like MLB.com has...DL a fight for a few bucks, then it's yours. Wishful thinking I guess.
