Creating Yourself in Title Bout
When I was a kid, my friends and I used to box in my basement up in New Jersey. We were around 10 to 12 years old at the time. Well, boxing was definitely not the easy way to fame and fortune. Taking a shot to head could be very painful - not to mention the gut. Being momentarily paralyzed by a shot you never saw coming isn't the greatest feeling either. Especially when other shots followup.
Even so, imagine yourself 18 years old, in great shape (whatever your weight was at the time). You may even imagine yourself slimming or melting yourself down a division just to enjoy height and reach advantages. Now, using an overly inflated opinion of how you would have been as a fighter (with the right trainer and trainer) create yourself as a fighter within Title Bout. Would you have been troubled by movers or pressure fighters? Did you have the type of temperment that would opened up on your opponent after his stung you? Or would you have been a jab and dance man? How much punishment could you have taken. How good a chin? Using all the above and more, I created myself as a ficticious boxer in the universe I had created 2 or 3 game versions ago. It was a blast! I found myself carefully picking my opponents at times. I imagined myself in the pre-fight interviews, what questions would have been asked and how I would have answered them. Believe it or not, I even felt a little nervous before certain fight simulations the "fictitious me" took part in. I remember certain fights where I suffered a nasty gash and even hit the deck against a lesser opponent who was having a good night... (and getting pissed off in the process). In the end, I managed to come roaring back to score a sudden stoppage in the next to last round. A left the PC that night thinking, "Whew... that was too close for comfort!" My wife was amused by the whole thing. I, like probably every other game sim fan has done every now and then, even thought about my upcoming fights in the fictitious universe while I was at work throughout my day. As the game years passed, I adjusted my weigh to mirror in real life increases. Looking back, I really didn't gain a whole lot of weight throughout my 20's. If you became a couch potato after yours teens, I guess you would have to imagine how your weight would have increased if you were continually training and keeping in shape. Or maybe you would have only seriously trained for the big fights. Don't tell me I'm the only one out there that has simmed himself within Title Bout? If you haven't, give it a try... even before the role playing module comes out. It adds another dimension to the game entirely. Jim PS One more thing. I haven't done this yet, but think of this; you could even create a stable of fighters that included your buddies (whose weights probably vary from yours) I haven't done it yet, but I'm giving it some thought. Kind of like following a group of amatuers as they turn pro. Last edited by Jim_Kidd : 05-17-2005 at 09:41 PM. |

I have myself in my heavyweight shape i am in now. Standing 6'0 and weighing 235lbs. a southpaw from Tennessee, Adam Brooks. I too boxed growing up and was actually pretty good at getting my face beat in but never did get knocked down or out. My older brother used to just beat us apart but he never knocked me down. So i gave myself a good chin which is even better now i would say. When i got married at 19 i weighed just 165lbs. then found weight training was something i enjoyed and put on 50lbs in 3 years. I got a little carried away with bulking up and got close to 250lbs and realized i was going the wrong way with physical fitness and now almost 3 years later i am down to 235lbs and still losing.
I too feel the "edge" when fictional Adam gets in the ring. My left hook has dropped some people but my lack of defense has lost me quite a few fights before i reset my universe. |

The fictional "you" seems to be main event material. Especially at Heavyweight. At 18, I was a skinny 118 lbs at 5' 8" and would have had very nice height and reach advantages. A natural boxer, the fictional me could be lured into a slugfest in trying to get an opponent out of there once they were slightly stunned instead of patiently picking my shots. I reflected that by making my defensive rating less than what I would have wanted it to be.

Years ago, I told this young guy (about 20) about the TitleBout board game when I found out he liked boxing too & he actually had some boxing training. So one day (while we should have been working) we made up his card. He was @ 140 & his card seemed pretty realistic, he wasn't that great, his KDR 1 was a 4, KDR 2, a 3, KO was a 3 too. If/when he ever ran up against a decent fighter with a punch, he was in trouble!

Just check any of the tomato can files for the big, slow heavyweight with the fast hands and the weak chin! LOL

As for me, I'd handily mop the floor with any other Cruiserweight out there.
Well, at least I would if he were out of shape, pathetically slow, had reflexes even worse than cement, couldn't duck a telegraphed punch to save his life, had a glass jaw and made Chuck Wepner seem like he had thick skin. Even then, I'd probably need to be a King fighter in Vegas with Eugenia Williams and Melvina Lathan as two of the judges to give me a guaranteed majority decision. |

Subtract 20 lbs. thanks to your brutal training regimen... and you're a large, tireless, bobbing and weaving machine with a devastating body attack and solid cross-armed defense. Now you're ready for any universe ![]() Last edited by Jim_Kidd : 05-19-2005 at 12:12 AM. |

I created myself in Title Fight 2001. I was a defensive, slick, light-punching, somewhat cut-prone, welter. I ran up a record of 15-0 before TBCB came out. My biggest win was a 10 rounds points win over Greg Haugen. I seem to remember in the 1980's there was an Avalon Hill produced magazine called All Star Replay and in a couple of issues there were articles about how to create yourself in Title Bout. I wish I'd kept them really.

I would be like George Foreman with a young version and an old one.
I also boxed in my Teens for the local P.A.L and then in the Army. My best assest was really good hand speed , though I bled easily and never really did enjoy getting hit much, but I still did fairly well. Young version: I am 6' and in my 20's went around 175. I would be a Boxer type with good PL and better then average defense, and good Ring movement. My affinity to cut would definitely be a detriment and I would have more trouble with speedy Boxers than sluggers. Old Version: Due to age and weight training I now weigh 215 - 220 and have definitely lost the hand speed. Being slower and a lot stronger my style would now be of a plodder with a lot more power and that same great resistence to Cuts *TIC* Defense would definitely be lower too, since I would be taking 2-3 punches to land 1, so hopefully my Chin has gotten better with age too ![]() |

I grew up in New Jersey, so I imagined my fights being held in Atlantic City and later on New York. I imagined myself not making the Olympic team because of "politics" and, due to the lower weight class, fighting my way up on undercards.
*Note: I was overjoyed when I discovered that my old high school built an "event center" that actually hosted pro boxing matches and is now listed as an arena in TBCB's "Venues" section! Now, when I reset my universe, all of my earlier fights will be set there before I go on to Atlantic City and New York. To add a little drama, I created a ficticious "arch rival." The fighter who beat me out for the Olympic team and begins his career the same time as I do. He comes from the same town, went to the arch rival school, and now begins his career (having won a gold medal) on TV. My universe is set in the 1980's, when boxing was still being shown on free TV. Meanwhile, my fights, in the beginning, are shown on local cable TV(right after the local Cow Tipping championships). In the game, my rival's ratings are just a shade below mine, but he has a lot of money backing him. I match him carefully on the way to a major title. I'm sure you can figure out how the rest goes! |
