Tough call - In that Tito has always had problems against boxers and so with Winky being such a gifted boxer to begin with.......one could start to inflate him a little more than needed based on his performace over Tito.
In retrospect (and what some were saying beforehand - DLH for example) that Winky's style was all wrong for Tito from the very begining. Winky could be a -5 (perhaps, though that would also depend on what his other ratings were or how they have been tweaked as well) - I would not say he was a -6 at this time - (personally I would keep him at a -4) Last edited by meade95 : 05-19-2005 at 12:19 PM. |

OK thanks guys, makes sense. You know after seeing him against both Mosely & Tito (2 top level fighetrs!), I think I'd try to avoid fighting him too. They say against a lefty you're supposed to hit them with straight rights but Winky's a tough guy to hit with anything & even if you win, you'll win ugly against him.

That's the problem with this type of fight, we are still not really sure what type of MW Wright will be because he hasn't fought an actual MW yet. So we get all excited because Wright won the MW championship by beating a WW moved up to MW. |

Well Joppy may not have been an "A" level MW but he wasn't a bad fighter & Tito just blew him away to take the WBA title back in 2001.
Also, I think part of the reason a lot of people are high on Winky is the fashion in which he beat Tito. The fact he won doesn't surprise most people but throwing a near shutout like he did, very few saw that coming! When's the last time you ever saw any fighter (let alone a guy @ Tito's level) only land 50 some punches over 12 rounds? |

It's the length of his arms. Notice how low his elbows are when he covers up. . .they are about at his waist line. There's just very little target there.

The previous versions we've seen (vs Bronco McKart, etc.) was not a "prime" Winky. The current version is. The problem was, in the past, his motivation for training was hampered by boxing's political process. To better understand it, put yourself in a similar situation. You're a boxer, not a big puncher. From the beginning of your career, you pay your dues - fighting for small purses... putting in long hard hours at the gym, living clean, while most of your friends are living "normal lives." Your's is one of semi-isolation... but you're willing to put up with it, because dream of winning a world title is alive on the inside of you. Well, no matter who you are and what you do... promises of a better tomorrow right around the corner only due for so long. After that, you may wonder if you're investment will ever really pay off. It stinks, no matter what your field. That's basically what Winky Wright said in an interview. After a while, he wasn't giving 100% any longer. He wasn't giving it in the gym, and it was showing in the fights. He knew he could beat the caliber of fighter he was facing at 75%. Meanwhile Oscar, Tito, Shane and Vargas were all bringing in the big money. When his chance finally game Wright was back to 100% in his training, focus and commitment. The results? Well, you can see it for what it is. Winky Wright is, like Bernard Hopkins, knows all the tricks and can make adjustments throughout a fight. I think another boxer with greater speed would give him the most trouble. The kind that counterpunches a counterpunch. |

He fights with a open hand where grant gloves (huge gloves ) that protect his whole damn head, and his torso is short, arms are long, which mean his arms protect his who damn body, and he has a great jab. I dont think any Knock out artist can beat him, I think it takes a Ouma to do the job.
My rating of him has his power a 3, and defnse -6. |
