How do you rate Felix Trinidad?
There was a time when people were saying he would have blasted Hearns, Leonard, Duran, etc. Obviously, that time has passed.
DeLaHoya seemed to be outboxing him and winning until he just stopped fighting and gave it away. Hopkin's boxing skills mixed with power totally dismantled him. And now, Winky's boxing skills took him to school and shut him out. Tommy Hearns was a good enough boxer to outbox Wilfred Benitez before Benitez was shot. Mix that with Hearn's power and it's hard to see Trinidad winning. Ray Leonard had great boxing skills and decent power. It's hard to see Trinidad beating him, either. Is Trinidad overrated? Against fighters with average boxing ability he was a destroyer. Ditto for his abilities against sluggers. My guess is, against the higher skilled boxers, he was vulnerable. Anyone who allowed him to set his feet and fire was in trouble. Counter punchers with movement would give him problems. Especially those with good chins and some power. |

I agree at WW, JMW or MW - Hearns and Sugar Ray both beat Tito (8 or 9 out of 10 times) -
I have always felt Tito was slightly over ranked - (though, I did think his naturally bigger size would get him past Winky.....at least my gut take was that....my brain kept saying listen to DLH...who kept saying Winky was going to easily out box Tito.....and he was right). |

*cough* overated....try to think of who he has really beaten?
Whitaker- was old De La Hoya- cmon he was totally outclassed for 8 rounds by Oscar Vargas-great fight, Tito almost got himself knocked out, wheres Vargas now? Camacho- meh.. was also on downside of career David Reid- was already shot Joppy- enuff said Mayorga- clearly a 1 dimensional fighter tailor made for Tito Hopkins- blown out Wright- clinically dissected for 12 rounds..didn't land a single clean shot, in other words...blown out sad...but true ![]()

I don't think he was overrated or underrated. I think he was a great boxer and I know some were calling him the best pound for pound at one time... I think during the high point of his career this may have been true. |

Tito was overrated he shouldnt be mentioned with Leonard,Duran,Hagler or Hearns. He has always had a huge fan base in the puerto rican community and throughout the country which has helped add to him being overrated.

I see these guys as top of the shelf. Tito is about two tiers below them.
