RIP Gunnar Nilsson (1923-2005)

Gunnar Nilsson (1923-2005)

Swedish heavyweight Gunnar Nilsson passed away on May 13th. Pro debut with a loss in 1949. He quit the game with a victory in 1956. His professional
record was 18 (12-4-2, 4 KO's). His year of fame was in 1948. That very year
he was Swedish senior heavy amateur champ and he won the silver medal in the Olympic games in London. He was then nicknamed Silver-Gunnar. He was a close friend of Ingemar Johansson. Together they had lots of well-paid exhibitions around Sweden during the 1950's.

This is from good friend Christer Franzen, author of the book "Ringside-Encyclopedia of Swedish Pro Boxing" http://www2.boxopen.nu/

I'd like to add a personal plug for Christer's book. Although in Swedish it provides a wonderful compendium of records of Swedish fighters. There are fight reports on events held in Sweden, that I wish I could read as well. But if you like books with boxer's records this gets a thumbs up on that score alone.
