One chance to play God
Another what if question....
If you could resurrect one Fighter and place him into the mix today at his prime, who would you select. Though my first instinct would be to go with a Heavyweight like Johnson, Dempsey or Louis, all that would really accomplish would be to place one dominant fighter into todays mediocre crop who would clean everyone's clock. So with that in mind I would have to go with Henry Armstrong. Can you imagine some of the Matchups you could have with him against today's crop of Welters and Jr Welters? Armstrong VS Tszyu, Gatti, Mayweather, Judah, Spinks, Mosley and Hatton. Maybe even have him venture up to Jr Middle to take on Wright. One other appealing Possibility would be Stanley Ketchel, to match up with the likes of Hopkins, Trinidad, De La Hoya and Wright. |

I'd bring back the Lightweight version of Roberto Duran. As dominant as he was at that weight, and probably would be today, I think bouts against fighters like Corrales, Castillo, Casamayor would be great. Bouts with Hatton, Mayweather, Cotto or Tszyu up a bit north would be fun to watch too.

I agree that we need somebody charismatic. Somebody already mentioned Ketchell so I'll throw the name Mickey Walker into the hat--a pugnacious guy who loved to fight and fought in four weight classes.

At first i was tempted to say Jack Dempsey.
But i have to go for Harry Greb as probably no one alive today has ever even seen a film of him fighting. So much praise has been given to Greb by the old newspapers and mags. The amazing thing is his record backs up the storys. His career is unbelievable. The fighters he took on one after another with sometimes only a few days between fights. In one year alone Greb had 40 fights. If he was around today i think it would be a walk in the park for this guy. Roy Jr Jones, Hopkins, bring em all on. I bet not many boxing experts would bet against Harry Greb. In or out of the ring. The more i learn about this man, the more fascinated i am about him. |

I'd love to see Sam Langford tackle the light heavyweight and cruiserweight divisions today. He'd make mince meat of them. Another guy that would be exciting to watch would be Lou Brouillard the 1930s welterweight from Quebec. Never got a chance to see him in action, but they say win or lose he gave fans their money's worth, kinda like Arturo Gatti.

Iv'e got to go with Burley (what a surprise). I would like to see a guy who was capable, but never got his shot, go at it today were guys with a dozen 'fights' get a chance at a belt.
Sam Langford is another good choice. |

I would pull Chris Battalino and Willie Pep into the current day. Intense pressure v. the most elusive man on the planet. There's a PPV event worth plunking a few sheckles down for. ( It would at least fill the Hartford Civic Center).
