JUST IN
Here's a shocker for me. The Fightin' Marine, Gene Tunney is defending his world title at Madison Square Garden against The Basque Woodchopper, Paolino Uzcudun. This is Uzcudun's second shot at the title, the other being a decision loss to Big George Godfrey. Tunney is coming off a TKO win over Max Schmeling. Eugene Henderson of the UK is the referee, Nat Fleischer and I are the judges (Conflict of Interest? Yeah, probably.) Anyway Tunney cruises through the first three rounds, plastering the Basque with combinations so you figure Uzcudun won't last ten never mind 15. Then, in the 4th, Tunney hits Uzcudun low. Why? Who knows. Henderson warns Tunney, and I'm thinking of the night Tunney beat Georges Carpentier with an upercut to the family jewels. In the 5th round Tunney hits Paolino low again and draws another caution, then does it again and gets a point taken away. I'm thinking Paolino must be insulting Tunney's mother or something. No sooner does the sixth round start then ol' Gene fouls Uzcudun again. I'm picturing Uzcudun down on all fours. Henderson wastes no time and disqualifies Tunney! The winner and new Heavyweight Champeen of da Woild, Paolino Uzcudun!!! Cap

flynn versus jackson
I posted this earlier on another thread because I overlooked this one but I had Jim Flynn knock out Peter Jackson in the 4th by 1 punch knockout. Jackson which was dominating the fight in which he should have up to that point... Jackson being a 11 and flynn a 4 rating...

Here's a big one WW Mike Glover rated an 8 and was 18-0-2 was one punch kayo'd by Holger Hansen 1 rated and was 9-7-2. Glover was ahead at the time of the punch which came in the 8th round.
Both were at pre-prime, what a way to lose your undefeated record. |

I wouldn't say this was a huge upset but a major one. In the UTBA thread, Lt. Heavy Bob Foster was demolishing the other Lt. Heavies in the league cruising to a 14-0-1 (14 KOs)record until he was upset by #8 seed George Gardner 9-4-2(3) in the second round of the Lt. Heavyweight tournament. Foster was expected to win it all. Gardner won by a TKO7 on cuts. Foster had just advanced to pre-prime before this fight and Gardner was still at beginning.

My biggest upset was a 4 rated Tino Hoffmann making a 7 rated Nicolai Valuev look silly by easily outpointing him over 12 rounds for a share of the Heavyweight picture. Also I'm not sure if this is an upset but my current P4P best is Luis Collazo who has been a buzzsaw. He beat Margarito in the WW tourney final for the WBA and WBO titles. After that he went slowly, outpointing Pineda in a decently close fight, earning a very close split decision over Quintana, and destroying a fast rising Thomas Damgaard. He needed at least one definitive victory to cement himself as a big time player and he got it by absolutely demolishing Felix Trinidad in 2 rounds. At this point Mayweather had been burning along defeating Arnaoutis, Corley, Leija, Cotto, Judah, and Tsyzu so the decision was made for Mayweather to move up to take a fight with Boxing's newest star. What resulted shocked me as a battered and bloodied Mayweather looked like an ammy against Collazo on route to a 118-110 116-110 116-110 defeat. Collazo is now set up for a rematch with 1 loss Margarito and possibly a fight with Quintana to settled that SD before moving up to fight Winky.

I watched Ike Ibeabuchi (8) getting stopped by by Obiang Borico (1) in the first round. Ike was totally defenseless and the ref stopped the bout.
Another surprise was the 1st round destruction of Sam Peter in the hands of Corrie Sanders. The way he destroyed Peter was impressive to say the least. Last edited by Tommysixfingers; 01-13-2007 at 06:36 PM. |

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Two of my favorites have lost their titles in stunning, humiliating fashion. Neither is truly an 'upset' but both are terribly upsetting. Details at a later point. |

I had Brian Curvis knock out Barbados Joe Walcott in the final round of a 10 rounder in the old EBC. Also in the new EBC I once had Sinan Samil Sam (6) get decisioned by Rudi Lubbers (1).
