Buster Mathis has a better chance of being elected president after winning the lottery than he does of winning this event. GO BUSTER

Geez, Holyfield's victory over Liston was shockingly easy. I guess the early cut helped him.

Man I'm shocked that Tyson beat Foreman, I figured he get knockout hell of a win for him. Now the big question for the second series of fight cards is can't Floyd do the impossible and actually make it to the second round for once against Liston.

I just had a look at that one myself. Pretty crazy fight. Tyson was almost gone in the 2nd and 4th, while the 1st and 3rd were action-packed and pretty even. Then Tyson goes beserk in the 5th. Good stuff.

Just wondering, is that Old George Foreman, 'cause there's a section of commentary that says "George Foreman is like an old steam train going uphill."

Larry Holmes hasn't had much luck: two SD losses and one MD loss.

Yeah I agree. He's been on the receiving end of some tough breaks. He scored a knockdown on Jack Johnson on his first fight but still ended up losing via SD. It was the same with his third fight where he knocked down Joe Louis in the last round but also lost via SD. But his three losses (including the loss against Walcott in his second fight) were against really good opponents with current records of:
Johnson (2-0-1), Walcott (3-0-0), Louis (3-0-0)[2]

Maybe he can turn his luck around with his next fight against Sullivan who's at (1-2-0).

Comments / Announcements:

First of all, the next results will be posted on Monday (GMT+8) because I will most probably be busy since it is the weekend here already tomorrow.

Ok back to the tournament:
  • Muhammad Ali, hoping to erase the memory of his recent TKO(c) loss to Joe Frazier, takes on a relatively easier opponent in John Ruiz, who is still yet to win his first match in this tournament.
  • There are two boxers who still have perfect records, Joe Louis and Rocky Marciano, and they take on separate foes. Will they continue their streak and still come out victorious or will someone finally find a way to defeat them?
  • Marciano has a much more dangerous opponent in Joe Frazier, who has given Ali his first loss in this tournament. Many people are saying that he just might be able to do the same to Marciano.
  • Joe Louis on the other hand also faces a dangerous foe in Bowe, since Bowe was able to break the perfect record of Walcott in his previous fight. Will Bowe be able to repeat what he did or can he go all the way and win the fight or will Joe Louis continue to dominate his opponents?
  • Two more undefeated boxers but each with 1 draws, Jack Johnson and Jersey Joe Walcott, stake their unbeaten records against separate foes on day 5.

  • Muhammad Ali is back on the winning track after asserting his dominance over John Ruiz on his way to a UD victory. There were no knockdowns in the bout but Ali dominated in each of the 10 rounds, landing 76% of his punches to just 13.2% for Ruiz.
  • Joe Frazier is red hot right now with his 4th straight victory (all via stoppages), in a KO win over the then undefeated Rocky Marciano. He now climbs to solo 4th place with just 1 KO separating him from his latest victim, Rocky Marciano, who now drops to fifth place with his first loss in this tournament.
  • With this recent development, Joe Louis is now the only boxer in this tournament who has won all their fights, while Jersey Joe Walcott and Jack Johnson are both still undefeated but they each have a draw.
  • After losing his first three fights to controversial decisions, Larry Holmes makes a comeback with his second straight victory today in a UD win over Lennox Lewis.
  • The last remaining boxer that has yet to win a match is John Ruiz.
