I would limit the callups somehow, maybe one fighter a week and no more than twice with the same fighter. Since Scot and Dave are OK with the paperwork ...

One question: How will the draft order for this league be determined? If the player pool is only the current waiver group (Were any ever culled out of there? Can't remember), would we run into a logjam with doing it the way we started this league (the method I would prefer)? Just some thoughts ...

Great question Vistaman. The voting would be voted on after it passes. As of now we were planning a 3 month long draft during season 5 so people wont have to rush to get their picks in. Of course if everyone wanted to do it the way we started that could be arranged as well. Lots of duplicates is what scares me there.

Bald Beavers Ready for Season 5

BONNER SPRINGS - Team Bald Beaver has been trimmed to size for season 5. Team officials are said to be pleased with the look of the squad, a decidedly different one from the team that took the past four Gold Division titles.

"This is a rebuilding year for us," suggests owner "Big" Matt Little, "and I don't want to give the fans the impression that we expect a 5-peat. But I think the Beavers just might surprise some people."

Prognosticators have all but ignored Bonner Springs in preseason polls, not surprising when you consider that this season's squad is far less experienced than past years, carrying 4 beginners and only 4 fighters in their prime. But the team has exceeded expectations before, routing heavily favored Iceteaboxing in the Season 1 championship, and snagging Division titles with a different roster in each subsequent season. While it appears highly unlikely that season 5 will bring a title to Bonner Springs, teams looking past the Beavers on the schedule do so at their peril.

With the exception of the middleweight division, where cornerstone and team captain Mickey Walker is paired with equally tough Kid McCoy, the core of the team has changed from the past. Gone are long-time Beaver stalwarts Ike Ibeabuchi, Bernard Taylor and Eddie Cotton, shipped off to contending teams in return for draft picks and younger fighters. The team will look to a host of younger players to fill in the hole left behind by their departure.

Below is a first look at the Season 5 Beavers, broken down by weight class:

HW
(2)Duane Bobick 8-36-0 (7) *PRIME
(3)Mike Schreck 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

An initial glance at the heavies would lead a person to conclude that the Beavers have written it off entirely. Indeed, the pair of Duane Bobick and Mike Schreck looks far less impressive than Big Ike and Tommy Farr. While the Beavers do not expect a lot of wins here, there does seem to be the possibility of an occasional surprise from Schreck, particularly as he gains experience. With a Hit Power of 6 and defense of -2, the big man has the potential to at least hold serve against the lesser heavies in the division. Time will tell if either fighter will do more than add tallies to the loss column.

LHW
(3)Lonnie Bennett 12-33-1 (11) *pre-prime
(5)George Nichols 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

With all the talented LHW's in the Gold Division, team Beaver seems to have all but written off any success here. Yet the team believes their LHW pair are better than advertised. Bennett is one of the few holdovers on the squad. His modest successes have been praised by Little, who believes his fighter performs above his 3 rating. "As this guy moves into the prime phase of his career, Bennett will be competitive with several of the second tier fighters in the division." predicts Little. "That's as good as you could possibly ask from a 3-rated fighter." The scouting staff on Team Beaver have extolled George Nichols' potential as a worthy replacement for Eddie Cotton. Time will tell if this prediction is well-founded. Nichols will no doubt take his lumps in a division boasting the likes of Bob Foster, Archie Moore, Darius Michalzewski and the aforementioned Cotton.

MW
(9)Charles Kid McCoy 55-16-3 (27) *PRIME
(11)Mickey Walker 99-5-0 (89) *PRIME

The heart and soul of the Beavers, the Beaver Middleweights have dominated the UTBA since the outset of the league. This will no doubt continue in season 5. Walker, the only remaining member of the original squad, looks to lend experience in bringing up generation 2 of team Beaver. The hope in Bonner Springs is that the team can bring another title home before Walker's career is over. He will no doubt retire a Beaver. The Kid, the only undefeated fighter in the Gold Division in season 4, provides a dynamic pairing with Walker. A veteran but younger than Walker, the team looks to build another title run around McCoy in the next couple of seasons.

WW
(7)Johnny Bumphus 0-0-0 (0) *beginning
(7)Milton McCrory 22-18-1 (13) *PRIME

Much of Bonner Springs' future successes will be dependent on the Welterweights. Always a solid weight class for the team since season 1, Beavers believe they may have the best duo they've ever had here. "We'll miss Judah and Green, but ultimately, we believe Bumphus and McCrory together will eclipse them." The team hopes Bumphus, considered by Beaver scouts to be the best 7-rated fighter in the draft, will develop quickly and become a consistent contributor before the end of season 5. McCrory, already established as a solid fighter, brings a veteran presence to the young club.

LW
(9)Diego Corrales 29-16-1 (24) *pre-prime
(9)Billy Petrolle 30-13-0 (19) *pre-prime

Billed as the "new middleweight duo" by team officials, the lightweight division looks to become a secondary core to the squad. Dubbed "Thunder and Lightning" by the fans, everyone is expecting big success from Corrales and Petrolle. The bar is set unfairly high, yet time will tell whether the pair can approach the level of success delivered by Walker and McCoy.

FW
(7)Celestino Caballero 17-9-0 (10) *pre-prime
(2)Jackie Turpin 4-20-0 (2) *pre-prime

Celestino Caballero was the fighter most coveted by the Beavers in last year's draft, and he did not disappoint, taking up some of the slack of a rather disappointing season by fellow FW Bernard Taylor. Caballero will be counted on to build on last season's successes, and is now considered one of the cornerstones to the new-look squad. Any success from Turpin, the newest addition to Bonner Springs, will be considered a bonus.

BW
(10)Jimmy Carruthers 33-12-4 (18) *pre-prime
(4)Leo Gamez 4-22-0 (4) *pre-prime

The Beavers were exceptionally pleased to re-acquire Jimmy Carruthers, who briefly boasted the BW belt during his one season with the club. Carruthers has become more and more impressive as his career progresses. He is considered another cornerstone of the squad. Despite a pathetic first season, the Beavers still believe in Leo Gamez. Now a pre-prime fighter, the team hopes to see big improvement in his numbers in his second tour of the league.

Fly
(7)Peter Kane 7-13-2 (5) *pre-prime
(10)Midget Wolgast 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

The biggest change in the squad is here in the Flyweight division. The team traded up in the first to snag Midget Wolgast, the little fireplug upon whose shoulders the Beavers hopes largely rest. As a beginner, the team expects some challenges for Wolgast, but hopes he can progress rapidly and soon become the force that scouts predict. Bonner Springs was overjoyed to be able to nab Peter Kane from the impressive Bears Unstable corral. Team officials believe he will become a very positive contributor beginning this season.

With top fighters Walker, McCoy and McCrory in their prime, and solid pre-primers Carruthers, Corrales, Petrolle, Caballero and Kane, there is some hope for success in season 5. With the anticipated contributions of Wolgast and Bumphus in the near future, season 6 and beyond look bright in Bonner Springs.

Your lower weight classes will be top notch no doubt. Without trying to state the obvious but your lightweight and middleweights will be the top units in the UTBA.

The question may ultimately come down to whether the lower classes can compensate for the drag of the HWs and LHWs.

Following the team preview of the Bonner Springs Bald Beavers, here is the lineup for Season 5 Tomato City squad:

Tomato City (Romultiltus)
(cap points = 105)

HW
(8)Jean-Marc Mormeck 8-11-1 (5) *pre-prime
(10)Young Stribling 14-8-0 (4) *pre-prime

Season 4 introduced the league to rookie Young Stribling and he proved in just his 1st season that he would be able to fill the shoes vacated by veteran George Chuvalo. He is joined this season by 2nd year fighter Jean-Marc Mormeck who spent last season with the now disbanded Long Island Lipbusters. This sophomore tandam expects to improve upon last season's records and eclipse the combined 40 points scored by Tomato City in the heavyweight division in Season 4.
LHW
(8)Alvaro Lopez 18-20-3 (17) *pre-prime
(8)Darius Michalzewski 62-21-2 (56) *PRIME

Gone are 4-season veterans George Gardner and Freddie Mills. Tomato City welcomes LHW Darius Michalczewski and Alvaro Lopez to the team. These two 8-rated fighters are expected to rack up more points than the 63 scored by last season's pair. The big question is - With 85 fights under his belt, how much does Michalczewski have left before Father Time erodes his skills.

MW
(8)Paul Pender 47-25-3 (5) *PRIME
(6)Anton Raadik 40-37-2 (27) *PRIME

Back again are Pender and Raadik whom together lead Tomato City with a combined 82 points. Expectations are not as high this season, but both should remain competitive in the Middleweight Division (except for the week they run into the Beavers' Walker and McCoy)

WW
(6)Mark Breland 54-29-5 (26) *PRIME
(1)Ronnie Cohen 4-18-0 (4) *pre-prime

Glass-jawed Fausto Rodriguez is gone. Losing his last 11 bouts punched his unemployment ticket out of New Haven. Replacing him is WW doormat Ronnie Cohen. No much is expected of him, but with a cap rating of "1" Tomato City felt losing Rodriguez' 21 Points Scored would be made up with the improvements in the HW/LHW divisions. Veteran Mark Breland also returns and hopes to get close to the 42 points he scored in Season 4.

LW
(5)Ernesto Espana 37-39-3 (27) *PRIME
(7)Rocky Kansas 50-30-2 (19) *PRIME

Local media in southern Connecticut was abuzz about Tomato City's knee-jerk trade of formidable Diego Corrales to Gold Conference powerhouse Bonner Springs Bald Beavers after his pathetic performance in the Season 4 Playoffs and EOY LW Tournament. Coming back to the Tomatoes was rugged veteran Rocky Kansas to fill his spot and HW monster Ike Ibeabuchi. Before Ibeabuchi could get off the plane at Tweed New Haven Airport, he was sent to Silver Conference Undisputed Champions in a package for LHW Darius Michalczewski. Tough 5-rated Ernesto Espana also returns for Season 5.

FW
(8)Barry McGuigan 60-21-0 (46) *PRIME
(5)Antonio Rivera 33-39-4 (25) *PRIME

Brawler Barry McGuigan is back but Patrick Ford was sent packing and replaced by toughman Antonio Rivera. These two are going to have a hard time matching the 72 points scored by McGuigan/Ford in Season 4.

BW
(3)Alimi Goitia 6-20-0 (6) *pre-prime
(9)Lupe Pintor 50-17-0 (29) *PRIME

Lupe Pintor is still pissed off after losing the BW Title in the opening round of the EOY BW Tournament. Hopefully this will motivate him to turn in a better season this year. 3-rated Alimi Goitia was a bit of a surprise winning 6 bouts by KO/TKO last season and scoring 18 points. Tomato City is hoping he repeats this in Season 5.

Fly
(9)Benny Lynch 14-9-0 (9) *pre-prime
(4)Jiro Takada 36-37-5 (10) *PRIME

Jiro Takada is a very durable and productive 4-rated fighter and Benny Lynch is planning on improving his rookie record. Hopefully he will clean up his act and stop losing by DQ. (He had 2 DQ losses last season)

...

Overall Tomato City hopes to compete in West again but the prospect of eclipsing the 507 Team Points Scored UTBA Record from last season. Just making the playoffs is the goal and hopefully at least a more competitive showing.

Since my plans changed after posting my original season preview and I really like this style I'm going to rip off Matt as well and post an updated Muckboy preview.

HW
(3)Marvis Frazier 10-41-1 (5) *pre-prime
(2)Lee Oma 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

After trading fan favorite slugger Jerry Quarry to the MMS for LW Sergei Artemiev the Muckboy ownership briefly considered adding Zora Folley to take his place before deciding to abandon the division entirely. Tough veteran Marvis Frazier was bought in due to his ability to remain standing until the final bell. Lee Oma was felt to be the best 2 rated fighter in the draft pool and the Muckboy ownership is confident once he gains experience he will prove successful against the lower rated fighters in the division.

LHW
(6)Eddie Cotton 60-36-0 (36) *PRIME
(7)Battling Siki 42-31-2 (25) *PRIME

Former teammates on the Beavers' championship team are reunited once again. Since joining the Muckboys in season 3 Siki has become a stabilizing force in a division that the Muckboys had been attempting to shore up from the first year. Cotton coming off a excellent year is expected to provide a huge boost in points over the man he replaced, Yawe Davis. These two should provide the best LHW division in Muckboy history.

MW
(6)Tony Sibson 32-27-4 (20) *PRIME
(11)Dick Tiger 36-7-3 (11) *PRIME

Tony Sibson was the man that brought about the Muckboy's decision to abandon the HW division. A tough, solid fighter who was bought onto the team to counter Tomato City's MWs. Dick Tiger helped spark the Muckboys' turnaround when he joined the team at the end of season 3. These two are expected to combine to be one of the best MWs divisions in the Gold.

WW
(10)Donald Curry 25-14-3 (12) *pre-prime
(3)Sylvester Mitee 29-43-5 (23) *PRIME

One of the few division with no new faces. Curry has lived up to the expectations placed on him since he was drafted by the Muckboys. He was a two time WW champion before hitting the Prime of his career. Should go Prime this year which should provide a nice boost in production. Mitee is one of the better 3 rated fighters in the league and is also a former two time champion.

LW
(7)Segei Artemiev 24-14-2 (17) *PRIME
(10)Edwin Rosario 71-15-1 (63) *PRIME

LW was the engine that made the early Muckboy teams run and this season should prove no different. Edwin Rosario has set the standard for Gold LWs over the course of his career. Segei had a monster year last year only suffering two defeats and is expect to provide similar production this year. These two would also like to make known that they disagree with the experts' opinions that the Beavers have the best LW division in the Gold and they look forward to proving it wrong over the course of the season.

FW
(9)Danny Lopez 20-21-1 (16) *pre-prime
(4)Torpedo Billy Murphy 25-39-4 (14) *PRIME

Danny Lopez is probably the single most important person on the Muckboys roster. Following a solid rookie year, he crashed and burned last year greatly hurting the Muckboys playoff run. In fact Muckboy owner Romy Alvarez lays the majority of the blame for the Muckboys missing the playoffs for a second straight year at Mr. Lopez's feet since if he had even approach his rookie season's totals they would have made it in. Danny had better prove himself in this upcoming season or he will be looking for a new job. Torpedo Billy is a tough nut to crack for a 4 and as owner of two rings is expected to provide a veteran influence for the team should they reach the playoffs.

BW
(5)Pete Frissina 44-28-10 (26) *PRIME
(9)Jose Medel 68-17-1 (58) *PRIME

Fly
(5)Hugo Soto 49-31-2 (40) *PRIME
(8)Candido Tellez 62-18-4 (41) *PRIME

Both divisions have had no changes over the off-season and are consider by Mr. Alvarez to be the foundation of the Muckboys. These four men are the closers for the Muckboys and fans of the team have no doubt that should the heavier weights get the lead to these four the Muckboys will walk away victorious. All four are expect to perform at the same high level as they have in the past.

The ownership expects nothing less then a deep playoff run from this year's Muckboy squad. The team views itself as one of the top contenders to take home the championship.

Love the team previews guys! Well done and informative. Also, its good to get a glimpse into the mind of fellow coaches..to see how they view their own squad. I may do one myself..maybe later tonight I will get one up. Great idea,it would be great if everyone would do one. Anyway, just wanted to tell you that I enjoyed reading your previews, interesting to see just how each coach thinks their fighters will fare in the upcoming season. Later fellas.

It appears that 20 of the 24 rosters are set.

Here are the 4 teams that are over cap and have too many fighters:
  • Bears Unstable 126 (+21)
  • Hoosier Playboys 126 (+21)
  • Stockholm's Finest 114 (+9)
  • Tile Hill Top Team 136 (+31)

The deadline to have your roster at or below the 105 cap will be......

I have posted a set of re-written by-laws for the Minors should it pass in the Minors poll thread.

I asked Dave to re-write them for me and he so kindly did. I would like to operate the minors just as they are written but I'm also leaving the door open for discussion and change. The re-written by-laws are not set in stone yet.

Chilton Preview

I enjoyed the other previews so I figured I would do my own.

(7)Frank Bruno 0-0-0 (0) *beginning
(7)Samuel Peter 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

Definitely a twosome put together with the future in mind, these two rookies will endure some growing pains their first year. But in the process they will give Chilton something they have not had since the inception of the Team...two guys who will always have a Punchers chance, and will at least invoke a small amount of fear as they mature. They replace Jack Sharkey who was nothing more than average, compiling a record of just under .500 during his Career, while providing very little Power. Jack was joined by various scrubs and these two definitely will upgrade the HW division for us as time goes on.

LHW
(8)Melio Bettina 31-30-2 (14) *pre-prime
(6)Billy Fox 32-35-4 (24) *PRIME

An adequate duo here and the most experience twosome on the roster, with Bettina surely hitting prime this year. When that occurs we should see an increase in production at the LHW level. We are also looking for these two established vets to tudor some of the younger Fighters this Season.

MW
(6)Antwun Echols 8-10-2 (8) *pre-prime
(10)Jermain Taylor 60-16-3 (33) *PRIME

Our best Fighter resides here in Taylor and I look to get at least 1-2 more strong Seasons from him. As the roster matures it is imperative that he gives us two wins a week as much as possible. Echols performed well as a Rookie last year and appears to be a solid value for his cap amount. If he could turn in the type of Season we got from Thomas Palmer at BW last year I will be very happy

WW
(8)Nicolas Cervera 0-0-0 (0) *beginning
(1)Jose Palacios 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

Another division manned by Rookies and we expect to struggle here this year. Of course the only hope for anything here is Cervera, who has a dcent punch and good Ring generalship, though he wil take his lumps this year. Palacios is nothing more than Cannon Fodder and if he manages to squeak out a win....ever, he will have paid for himself.

LW
(1)Norman Goins 1-19-0 (1) *pre-prime
(9)Battling Nelson 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

A scrub and a possible future contender, Nelson has the savvy to control the pace of a fight, even at this stage and will only get better. Not a big Puncher I nonetheless expect an over .500 record for the Dane in his debut Season. Goins managed a shock win last Season and another would justify his spot on the Roster to save cap space.

FW
(9)Benny Bass 24-14-2 (6) *PRIME
(10)Johnny Kilbane 0-0-0 (0) *beginning

Will be our best division in the future as Bass has already proven his worth and Kilbane will be even better once he hits Prime, a strong duo who will make this Chilton's cornerstone division in years to come.

BW
(2)Paddy Maguire 0-0-0 (0) *beginning
(5)Thomas Palmer 21-15-4 (5) *pre-prime

Led by the scrappy Thomas Palmer, who has exceeded all expectations with a Career record 6 wins over .500 at this point. As he continues to mature he should get even better, definitely one of the better low value Fighters in the UTBA at this point. McGuire will not replace the prodcution lost here of course and in fact will probably lose every match this year, but Palmer's value makes up for it.

Fly
(4)Freddie Castillo 25-43-6 (13) *PRIME
(12)Pascual Perez 13-6-1 (8) *pre-prime

Our best prospect for the future is Perez and he should improve greatly on a good Rookie campaign, that saw him in consideration for the Silver conference ROTY award. A good puncher, who can also box when needed, Pascual needs to have an outstanding sophomore Season for us. Castillo is a huge drop off from Magri, but is a fighter in his prime, who will get some wins here and there.
Prediction
Chilton, with seven rookies on the opening day Roster will continue to struggle in a tough division, but a remake of the Roster was needed to get this squad going in the right direction. The veteran leadership of Taylor and Bass will be relied upon to keep morale up as our inexperience will undoubtedly cause many rough moments throughout the Season. The real story here will be Chiltons potential if the team is kept together as Perez, Kilbane, Nelson and to a lesser degree Cervera and Bruno should all have respectable careers in the UTBA.

Predicted Divisional Finish: Last
Predicted record 2-8
