Left Jab Inc. Season Preview
I have enjoyed reading all the team previews by each of the owners,so here is a brief rundown of Left Jab Inc and my thoughts and hopes for the new season.
HW Earnie Shavers and Tony Tucker) The strength of my young team in its first two seasons. Both have stayed at or near the top of the HW division for the last two seasons. Tucker is prime, but starting to age and a slight decline is expected. However,I fully expect him to be a top 5-8 ranked guy this season. Shavers is just getting ready to hit prime and has been a devastating force for my team. At prime he should be at or near the top of all heavyweight rankings and stats this season and next. Anything less will be a letdown. My only point of concern is a late season swoon by Shavers. Hopefully, that is behind him and he is ready to rock and roll. LHW Glen Johnson and Michael Moorer) Much improved division for Left Jab Inc. Johnson is always steady,if not spectacular and Moorer although inexperienced brings heavyweight power and ability to the LHW ranks and should give some of the legends of the UTBA a run for their money. MW Michael Nunn and Brent Cooper)Nunn had a pretty good rookie campaign and should get even better with another year of experience. Hopefully he can surprise a few of the big dogs and get better with each fight and by season 6 should be a force. Brent Cooper,well....is Brent Cooper. He is getting a lot of experience being battered from pillar to post. However,he does surprise the league about once or twice a year by knocking someone out. Who will be his lone victim this year? WW Kamau and Limas) Left Jabs usually formidable WW division was sacrificed to make the team stronger in divisions that we felt that we could be more competitive. Last years team of Stracey and McCrory were used to grab draft position and talent for other weight classes, while we hated to lose both guys,we wish them well with their new teams. Although we had to cut our WW,we will not go down that easy,David Kamau should be one of the toughest 4's in the league while Limas is simply a warm body. LW Miguel Callist and Orzubek Nazarov) Surprisingly strong finish by Callist and Nazarov last season leads us to hope that we can compete with most in this division without spending large amount of cap space. Nazarov should crack into the top 15 this year and continue to improve with experience. Callist a 3,has earned several notable upsets and will be one of the best of the low rated fighters this season. FW Terry McGovern and Ronnie Clayton) Greatly improved division for Left Jab with the addition of one of the best of the UTBA FWs in Terry McGovern and a good prospect in Clayton. McGovern, grabbed from the Mexivilles to add experience and talent to our lower weight classes,is getting on in years but should still be one of the top Featherweights for the next year or so. Clayton has hovered near .500 in a tough division and is just now nearing his prime..big things are expected from these two. BW Owen Moran and Willie Smith) After having dropped into our laps in the 3rd round,we could not pass on adding another "10" to our roster. Owen Moran should provide some excitement as he learns the ropes of the UTBA in his rookie season and is expected to be a top contender in the division for years to come. Willie Smith hitting his stride now has always been a tough out for anyone and now that he is prime he could surprise a few of the higher ranked fighters in the division. FLY Octavio Gomez and Luis Maldonado) Two fighters from the legendary Bald Beavers camp have joined forces to help Left Jab climb to the top of the UTBA heap. Both fighters are just hitting their prime and should provide a durable upgrade to what has been a lackluster division for Left JAb in the past. Spirits are high as Left Jab Inc breaks training camp. Several talented newcomers, experienced vets and some familiar faces have meshed together to give Left Jab its most experienced and talented roster yet. After a very dismal season 4,Left Jab looks to surprise some of the top dogs this season. Anything short of a .500 record and playoff contention will be a major letdown. Good luck to all of the teams and to the newcomers of the UTBA! "Lets get it on!"

Here's an article from TIME magazine: Standing up straight with thin gloves on their hands two boxers strutted around a ring, cuffed each other in the face, in the belly, over the heart. One was Battling Nelson, lightweight champion of the world, bloody, ferocious, who wanted to win. The other was Ad Wolgast, the Cadillac wildcat, who won—after 40 rounds when Nelson, blind and helpless, lurched against the ropes and spat blood into the ringside seats. That was 17 years ago in San Francisco. A little while ago Battling Nelson went to the movies, and saw a picture of the fight. When the show was over, he went to steal the film. He had been licked once— that was enough. Nobody was going to have the chance again of seeing him staggering stupidly around a ring with blood dripping out of both eyes. When ten police men came to take him to court, he fought them off, until one of them grabbed his arms from behind. He went to court and sullenly assured the judge that he was not crazy. The judge saw two enormous fungi where his ears should have been but these were not, he thought, sufficient in dication of mental balance. Nelson was sent to the psychopathic hospital for observation. Ad Wolgast has not forgotten that fight either. He lives on the Pacific Coast with friends, ring figures of 20 years ago. Every morning he begins to spar. Pretty soon he thinks he will have to meet another champion. In the bright sun, he dances around a shadow ducking, weaving, driving his long arms to hit a body that is not there. He has invented a new punch to use in his next championship bout.

Mexivilles team preview
I like to think of this a reloading year, not a rebuilding year. However I don't think I will go into the last match of the season with the chance to choke away the playoffs as I've done all 4 years!
HW - The Klitschko brothers will handle their business. I think it is my best HW lineup yet. Of course Vitali will take his lumps this season at beginner but if he can get 8 wins I will be happy. Both give me a good shot at KO's. LH - Still the class of my team. Johnson has been a great "6" rated fighter for me. 57-24-2 with 46 KO's as a 6! Matthew Saad Muhammed has been the greatest draft pick in Mexiville history and is still only pre-prime! MW - gave up on this division .. just hoping my guys don't get KO'd every fight WW - Could be decent for me if Cotto comes on strong at pre-prime this year. Stracey is on the hot seat. He'll need to come out of the gate fast or he will be on the waiver list. LW - Arguello has long been the class of the Mexivilles and will continue to be. Bazooka Limon will hopefully have a decent first year but should be a force once he ages. FW - Bobby Chacon needs 12 wins for me this year to justify the high pick. Once he ages he will be very tough! Tetteh has been a decent 3 rated fighter for me. BW - Pretty much gave up on this division too. Hopefully Duarte can get a few wins. [b]FLY/B] - probably my 3rd strongest division behind LHW and LW. Arce has been great and Pong should be a stable fighter once he ages. I predict a 5-5 season. |

Southpaws expansion team
So what do i expect from my first year in the UTBA, not much... I'm pretty sure i won't be a contender for a playoff spot and the best i can hope for is to get some upsets here and there. Here's our starting roster for the season:
HW (6)James Braddock 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (9)Tommy Farr 59-25-9 (14) *PRIME Cinderella man will be joined by veteran Farr. I expect plenty of Farr and maybe a couple of wins by Braddock (my prediction is 5-6). LHW (9)Joe Calzaghe 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (5)Miguel Angel Cuello 10-36-0 (7) *PRIME Calzaghe is one fighter that will be part of the bonestructure of my Southpaws. He will be here for many years hoping that he brings in many KO's and wins for us. Cuello is the veteran that must compensate whenever Joe has a day off. MW (4)Rafael Gutierrez 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (9)Lazslo Papp 0-0-0 (0) *beginning Same story for Papp as for Calzaghe. Another one to keep and to win me points. I added Gutierrez to the roster for his punching power, do not expect much from him though. WW (5)Mohammad Abdulaev 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (9)Oscar De La Hoya 23-18-0 (7) *pre-prime This must be my favourite division. Why? Well, isn't it obvious... My golden boy shall be golden i tell you. "He's the greatest" . Ok, i'm a bit biased but i do expect nice things from De La Hoya. Abdulaev ay get a few wins, we 'll see...LW (6)Paddy DeMarco 26-28-7 (3) *PRIME (7)Yodsanan Nanthachai 0-0-0 (0) *beginning Nanthachai has a good punch and he may be good for a win or two, DeMarco is the vet that accompanies him. (Does anyone notice a trend?) FW (11)Young Griffo 83-7-7 (18) *PRIME - UTBA Champion (3)Raul Rojas 0-0-0 (0) *beginning Here is my Champion! Griffo is arguably the best fighter on the roster and he will get me many points eventhough he's aging a bit. Great fighter and another one for my backbone. Rojas has power and that's all i can say about him. BW (6)Manuel Armenteros 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (4)Jose De Jesus Lopez 0-0-0 (0) *beginning Well, what can i say? I ignored this division and i don't expect many points from my BW. Fly (7)Muhammad Rachman 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (5)Omar Soto 0-0-0 (0) *beginning As it shows i'm not big fan of the lower weight classes. Rachman may put some points on the board but my hopes are low on my FLY's. Overall i think i won't end up in last position but i will be down there somewhere. All i can do is hope and build for the future with De La Hoya, Calzaghe, Papp and Griffo. |

I have enjoyed reading all of your previews,it is interesting to hear the expectations of each owner. Gives some good insight into how they went about drafting and creating their squads. LOL@ Matt....that pic of McCrory..well,we caught him doing that several times here at the gym..so we just had to let him go..LOL. Great pic Matt, seriously,Milt should hold his own and is a tough out for any WW. Take care and good luck guys.

OK, I'll throw a quick summary up there as well:
The Dublin Guards (Bronx Bomber 15) HW (8)Eddie Machen 11-9-0 (7) *pre-prime (2)Bob Satterfield 1-19-0 (1) *pre-prime In plain English, Satterfield is here so I can make the cap. The reason it's him over other low rated heavies is that he has better power than the others, giving him a better (though still slim) chance of a win. Machen was a great pick up for me. His 11 wins last season is better than my season three heavies combined. Hopefully with him move in to prime this season, he'll make a little more noise in season five. LHW (8)Roy Jones Jr. 24-14-5 (17) *PRIME (8)Eddie Mustafa Muhammad 18-22-1 (8) *PRIME RJJ was my glue in my expansion year, but he really fell apart last season. I hope (hope hope), that he can regain the fire he showed in his beginning stages and put up a good run this season. EMM was a big improvement over Rocchigiani, and as with Jones, I look for big things from him this season. MW (9)Benny Briscoe 23-14-2 (22) *pre-prime (8)Dwight Davison 8-12-0 (2) *pre-prime Briscoe sticks around because he's a solid competitor, better than his record indicates and a move into prime should make him a more dangerous opponent this coming year. Davison performed about as well as expected in his rookie season. As with my other pre-primers, better things should lie ahead for him. WW (1)Herb Darrity 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (11)Billy Graham 11-3-6 (1) *pre-prime Darrity, here for the cap. End of story. Billy Graham is expected to be the big performer this season. i chose him more for his record than his rating. All in all, he should have no problems out performing my two previous welters, Baldomir and Mellody who were both cut so Graham could join the squad. I look for him to be my MVP this season. LW (8)Cornelius Boza-Edwards 10-8-3 (4) *pre-prime (1)Wayman Dawson 0-0-0 (0) *beginning Another division with two newbies to the team. Dawson, again here for the cap. Boza-Edwards is a big step up from last season lightweights and should be able to remain competitive throughout the season and easily out perform the two lights I let go. FW (9)Battling Battalino 42-19-6 (13) *PRIME (10)Juan LaPorte 6-12-2 (2) *pre-prime Batts is a no-brainer. He rattled off 17 straight wins last season and in prime stage, it would be stupid for me to release him. LaPorte was a huge disappointment but since he's also moving up in stage, we'll see what he's got this season. His performance through the first half will determine whether or not he's around for the second half. BW (1)Joel Avila 2-32-0 (2) *pre-prime (7)Vic Toweel 34-28-0 (14) *PRIME Avila...need I say it? Toweel looks to be solid pick up, as The Guards saw no reason to keep Bushy Graham around any longer. If Toweel can hold a .500 record this year, he'll be worth the swap. Fly (6)Dennis Adams 18-40-2 (8) *PRIME (8)Guty Espadas 35-21-5 (18) *PRIME I was really disappointed with Adams in season four, but at this time he's better than the available flys rated six or lower, so he stays for now. Espadas didn't exactly burn up the league last year either, but he's pretty solid. I'll be happy with a .500 season from the division. Prediction: I see my feather's being my biggest performers this season, with my light heavies right behind them. Of course, I thought I'd do better last season too . We'll see if I made the right moves or if once again, I made too many. Just hope my higher guys perform well enough to off set the certain losses my 1's and 2 will generate. |

Oakland Assassins (kenyan_cheena)
(cap points = 105) HW (2)Frank Slavin 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (7)Cleveland Williams 28-30-2 (26) *PRIME LHW (5)Yawe Davis 30-35-5 (11) *PRIME (8)Jeff Harding 39-23-1 (31) *PRIME MW (9)George Benton 29-26-6 (8) *pre-prime (13)Carlos Monzon 44-4-0 (30) *PRIME - UTBA Champion WW (7)Floyd Mayweather Sr. 27-28-7 (17) *PRIME (6)Carlos Quintana 49-37-1 (30) *PRIME LW (11)Julio Cesar Chavez 32-12-0 (23) *PRIME (6)Louis Molina 20-39-2 (11) *PRIME FW (6)Troy Dorsey 16-36-2 (9) *pre-prime (4)Jimmy Revie 24-40-2 (18) *PRIME BW (6)Joe Bowker 36-25-7 (8) *PRIME (1)Francisco Paredes 0-10-0 (0) *beginning Fly (5)Efren Torres 29-30-2 (15) *PRIME (9)Hilario Zapata 39-16-7 (12) *PRIME *** I made a few changes to my roster, all after the draft had been run. I released 11 rated WW Billy Graham, not because he's a bad fighter but because I don't think I was getting maximum value from him. He can't KO anyone and that coupled with the 11 cap points he was taking up made him expendable. I snared Zapata, which should help my chances at Fly and also signed Mayweather Snr. and Yawe Davis, both prime guys who should help out a bit. I also have Frank Slavin, who is 5-1 in the HBF but might struggle to overachieve to that extent in the UTBA. Not sure if I'll be able to make the playoffs with the tough schedule I have, but I'm looking forward to seeing if my team can surprise me. |

Juggernaut comes into season 5 a veteran team in search of a championship. With my main division rival from last year "reloading", I think this is my best chance at winning a championship. I will be disappointed with anything less then a silver championship appearence.
With stalwarts Norton, Zale, Shields, Davis Jr., and a few guys I think are ready to break through; Berlenbach, Thompson (Hopefully a comeback fighter of the year spot.), Pacheco, Vasquez, we are ready for the season to get under way. Last edited by Claybor : 05-22-2007 at 11:25 AM. |

The Nobodies: Team Preview
HW
(7)Chris Byrd 49-28-7 (11) *PRIME (10)James Jeffries 0-0-0 (0) *beginning Despite lacking the KO power, Byrd has been a consistent source of points for the team. With the addition of Jeffries, whom I drafted with my first pick in this year's draft, the HW division should provide my team with a lot of points this season. LHW (6)Leo Lomski 38-37-1 (22) *PRIME (9)Tony Shucco 9-10-1 (0) *pre-prime Shucco has so far been underperforming, but I'm gonna give him another chance this season to perform better as he gains more experience. Lomski has been performing quite well for a 6 rated fighter, hopefully he will continue to stay above .500 this season. MW (2)Alex Hilton 5-34-1 (5) *pre-prime (1)Wilbert Johnson 0-0-0 (0) *beginning My worst division (need I say more?) Hilton's 3 KO wins last season was quite a bonus, so hopefully he can get a couple more wins again this season. WW (4)Fernando Barreto 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (8)Oba Carr 50-30-5 (23) *PRIME Two new faces in my WW division as I got rid of both Sullivan and Tut, hopefully Carr can give me a solid performance this year, if not then he will be put up for trade. I think that Barreto should be able to match what Sullivan produced for me last year. LW (11)Carlos Ortiz 71-11-6 (15) *PRIME (3)Yoni Vargas 17-53-5 (8) *PRIME Ortiz is the star player of this team, and I expect him to regain the LW belt again over the course of the season. FW (5)Ike Chestnut 35-38-8 (6) *PRIME (8)In-Jin Chi 55-21-5 (40) *PRIME Chi should continue to provide me with KO's and with the addition of Chestnut, my FW division should perform a lot better this season. BW (5)Hideyasu Ishihara 0-0-0 (0) *beginning (10)Memphis Pal Moore 46-18-3 (11) *PRIME Newcomer Ishihara should give me some KO's which I have been lacking since the start of the UTBA. Moore may be on the trading block depending on his performance this season. Fly (8)Little Dado 54-20-8 (8) *PRIME (7)Erbito Salvarria 40-33-8 (8) *PRIME Dado is still doing great despite his lack of power, while Salvarria seems to be on the decline over the past couple of seasons, hopefully he can turn it around this season or he is gonna be on the trading block. Bottomline: I expect the HW division to be my best division this season, followed by FW and LW. I also expect to atleast be in contention for a playoff spot this season, so hopefully everything goes according to plan.

Stockholm's Finest Pre-season preview
HW
(7)Ingemar Johansson 12-10-0 (11) *pre-prime (6)Corrie Sanders 6-14-0 (5) *pre-prime Johansson has a heavy burden to carry on this team. Big things are expected from him in the ring aswell as the face of the whole team. I have pretty high hopes for Sanders also. I think that he can be a tough opponent for 7-8 rated fighters. LHW (6)Mehdi Sahnoune 8-12-0 (7) *pre-prime (3)Peter Venancio 8-25-1 (4) *pre-prime Nothing much to say about the light heavies. Telesco did a decent job last season but still had to leave due to the cap. Sahnoune did a decent job last season too. Venancio is only in the lineup due to cap issues. If Sahnoune and Venancio can get 10-12 wins in between them I will be content. MW (7)Arthur Abraham 4-16-0 (0) *pre-prime (2)Ernie Burford 0-0-0 (0) *beginning Abraham was a disapointment for the team last season. He will have to start producing better results pretty fast if he wants to be a part of this team. Thomas Damgaard had to leave the team due to his abysmal performance an Burford was brought in to replace him. Nothing much is expected from him though. WW (3)Chris Christensen 14-39-1 (10) *PRIME (9)Arturo Gatti 10-22-2 (5) *pre-prime I hope that this will be the season where Gatti picks up the pace a little. I would like to see a bit more from him to be convinced that I made the right decision to let him stay. Chris Christensen came in at a late stage to provide some veteran presence when the 2nd rd pick Luis Collazo had been told to pack his bags and leave town. LW (3)Michael Ayers 1-19-0 (0) *pre-prime (8)Jesus Chavez 6-14-1 (4) *pre-prime Chavez finds himself in the same position as Abraham as he needs to get it together pretty quick to be safe in the lineup. Ayers had an abysmal season and he is also required to step up. I'd say that 3-4 wins is what is required from him. FW (8)Davey Kotey 10-14-2 (3) *pre-prime (9)Sugar Ramos 63-19-4 (37) *PRIME This is a very exciting division for the team. I think that Kotey has a lot to offer. Together with his new teammate he can provide valuable points to the team. Ramos came to Stockholm as a part of a deal that included Carruthers, between them and the Bald Beavers. He is expected to do well and his veteran presence is much needed on this young an inexperienced team. BW (8)Akeem Anifowoshe 15-10-0 (13) *pre-prime (12)Carlos Zarate 0-0-0 (0) *beginning The sadness that the fans felt about losing Jimmy Carruthers is compensated with the excitement of having Zarate in the lineup. Great thing are expected from him and there is no doubt that he will be one of the cornerstones of this franchise for many seasons to come. This season however, is a learning one. Akeem Anifowoshe did better than expected last season and the expectations are high. He will have to deliver once more. Fly (9)Yuri Arbachakov 11-9-0 (10) *pre-prime (5)Evert Briceno 7-14-0 (3) *pre-prime ROY candidate Arbachakov is expected to follow up his 1st season with eaqually good results. Evert Briceno is a tough, rugged fighter. He should be good for some 7-10 wins this season also. -------- Overall I think that this will be a learning year for the team once again. I have no hurry though and I won't be expecting the team to make the playoffs in another year or two. I'm a bit disapointed at myself about the way I wasted my 2nd round pick on Collazo. I made a bad decision there and I couldn't straighten the situation out as I wanted to. I hope that Zarate fills Carruther's shoes pretty quick. It wasn't an easy desicion to let him go.

WAIVER CLAIMS
Tile Hill Top Team claims:
The final waiver wire is now OPEN and will close tomorrow night at 8 pm CST. The deadline for having your cap at or below 105 is tomorrow night at 10 pm CST. Two teams are still over cap but both have informed me they'll be ready to make their final cuts. It's sad to say but I'm looking for a replacement owner for the Boxing Kangaroos. I have PM'd Shane but no response. I hate to lose Shane as a member of this league but we need to move on so we can have an active owner in the league. If anyone has any ideas of who to ask to join please feel free to invite them. I have sent out at least 10 invites and all have declined. |

Sorry to hear about Shane losing his team..I open up with the Kangaroos. He has always been a fairly tough team. Oh well. On the cusp of a new season,I just want to wish everyone good luck and welcome to the newbies. I have a feeling that this may be the most competitive and fun season yet. Predictions anyone? I will do a little more studying and maybe do a division and team by team rundown tommorrow. If any of you have the time maybe you could do a set of predictions as well.
