More Hoosier Hoops Memories

mh, I grew up living about 3 blocks from historic Hinkle Fieldhouse, aka "The Big Barn" which of course was immortalized in the movie "Hoosiers." My most vivid memory was going there for Hinkle's final game as coach in either 1970 or 1971, where Butler took on Notre Dame, losing a memorable 121-114 encounter where Austin Carr broke Bevo Francis' single game record with 50 points, a mark that still stands. It was great to see the one nationally televised game there this season with Butler and Southern Illinois that set an all-time attendance record (SRO) in the first regular season encounter between a nationally rated Butler and a nationally rated opponent.

I can't help but think that the Bulldogs will come back next year and be competitive despite the loss of their very talented coach, as they did after Collier and Matta left previously.

(apologies to everyone else for the off-topic post.)

I saw Bird play there in 1978, the year prior to their unbeaten run if I am remembering correctly.

Back on Topic ...

... with a couple of UTBA related questions.

1. Is the waiver wire still open? Or is it kind of on hold pending the outcome of this UTBA Minor League draft? If it's still open, what would happen if say one team selected a boxer through waivers that another team was claiming in the Minor League Draft?

2. Second question (and I kind of suspect the answer may be no, but I will ask anyway): During this season (Year 5 not Year 6), would it be permissible for a team to draft a PRIME boxer from the free agent pool through the waiver process, then make room for that boxer on the roster by dropping a Pre-Prime or Beginner boxer to the Minor League Roster in lieu of making a selection for that weight class in the Minor League Draft?

1. The Minor League draft will be paused while waivers are open

2. In regards to this question, you have probably found a loophole and I am glad you did before this might have came up. I would suggest that if a players is picked up on Waivers another player on the active roster has to be dropped. The reason I call it a loophole is because we have stated that no Prime boxers can be drafted so this would be a work around to that which is something that would hurt this initial draft.

The waiver wire is closed and will re-open as soon as week one of season 5 is finished. The minor league draft will be put on hold each week during the 4-day waiver period. We are going to a 2 week format for one game week which means there will be 4 waiver days (24 hours each) and then we'll have 10 days each game week to draft fighters to the minors this season.

Yep! The answer is no.
You will be allowed to do what you are suggesting but only when we actually start using the minor leaguers. As it stands right now.......the minors will not come into effect until the start of season 6 (Season 6 will start after the draft). If we were to start using the minors this season after the rookie draft is finished.........you start doing what you suggest right then.

Damn, the Guards almost got the Beavers there. Tough luck for Bronx there. I like the adding the scores under the fights. In the case of a KO or TKO I would like to see the scores at the time of the stoppage there as well so that we can get a quick look at whether the fight was close or not.

I figure SAL will asking what we think of the new post style eventually so I decided to get a ahead start and throw thoughts and suggestions out there before he asked. Anyway, thats what I'm here for to do what I can to increase SAL's workload.

Damn, at least I kept it close. Not bad for a first outing but of course as my Irish luck would have it: My highest rated fighter in Billy Graham loss both bouts! I guess it's the price I pay for having Avila win one Can't really complain about the rest of the guys (yet). Machen, Muahammad, RJ, LaPorte, Boza-Edwards and Batts all did well. Nice to see the scores were all pretty close.
We're off and running folks!
Good luck to the rest of you.

Congrats to TC for getting his first ever win in the UTBA but now onto far more important matters the debut of your season 5 Muckboys. I can't wait for this match to go down so I can see if my off season tinkering worked.

Well it was interesting to see how the guys did the first test out, and nice to see that bum Vic earning his keep for once! (ducks and hides from Rommy!)

I am still learning this to say the least, but fun nonetheless! (Any time now I will start a losing streak you wait and see.)

Ah... the Muckboys.. make note to train the guys to put a hurt on the 'Boys when we play. If we don' win, we will make 'em earn it I always say!

Your team is definitely on the come - that was a good match.

Love the scoring in the results as well Scot!

How about those Welters? McCrory and Bumphus make a statement right from the start. But my favorite effort was made by Leo Gamez, who looks to have put last season's struggles behind him.
