Brazilian Barbarians vs Tomato City - Round 9
October 19, 2006: New Haven Veterans Memorial Coliseum, New Haven, CT
The hottest team in the UTBA, the Barbarians make it three in a row in a slug fest. There were 9 decisions and 23 bouts that didn't go the distance in this one. The Barbarians also added their first individual champion today. Congrats go out to the Barbarians in their new found success and their first champ. Why does the hottest team in the UTBA always have to be in our divison, why can't we ever get the coldest team. I think our guys deserve a break. Oh well, just have to win or lose by less then 11 to stay in first.

Oh well, I think the season's over for the Tomatoes. Barring a complete collapse by the Muckboys, I can't see any hope in making the playoffs. Making a roster change this late in the season looks pretty stupid right now. The new guys impressively layed down and went 0-4. Also lost my only champion - although I knew Patrick Ford wouldn't hold it for long. I can only hope for a few good performances in the EOY tournaments. |

It is a most un-expected surprise. Wasn't expecting to do much other than get a good draft pick this season. Caveman Lee actually did something. The earth may be altering it's axis. Bear |

Admit it you just want to lay a beating on someone like the ones you've been catching all season.

If we expand to 20 teams, I'd suggest that for scheduling purposes, it's best to go with five divisions with four teams in each. Maybe you could call them East, West, North, South and Central.
It could be a 14 round season, with six rounds within the division and eight outside, which would be made up of two against each of the other four divisions. The playoffs could be the division champs plus a wildcard, with the two highest scoring division champs getting a first round bye and then hosting the semi-finals. Or it could be five division champs and three wildcards. |

This would be my proposal with a 14 round season: Round One: West @ North, South @ Central, East plays 1st divisional games Round Two: East @ West, North @ South, Central plays 1st divisional games Round Three: North @ East, West @ Central, South plays 1st divisional games Round Four: East @ South, Central @ North, West plays 1st divisional games Round Five: Central @ East, South @ West, North plays 1st divisional games Round Six: Teams play 2nd divisional games Round Seven: Teams play 3rd divisional games For Rounds Eight to Fourteen, the home and aways from rounds 1-7 would be reversed. |

However, if, like me, you're not a fan of wildcards (except in the NFL), the playoffs could simply be the five divisional champs. They would be seeded according to their points total, and the playoffs would proceed like this.
Round One #1 seed has a bye Game One: #4 v #5 (loser eliminated) Game Two: #2 v #3 Round Two Game Three: winner Game One v loser Game Two (loser eliminated) Game Four: #1 seed v winner Game Two (winner progresses to Championship match) Round Three Game Five: winner Game Three v loser Game Four (loser eliminated) Round Four Game Six: The Championship match, winner Game Four v winner Game Five This is the way our National Rugby League used to run its playoffs up to about twelve years ago. |

Wow! It can't be the ownership ...
... so it must be the threat of their jobs! Anyway ...
Jim Amato calls Reuben Olivares one of the top 25 fighters since 1960, and I've been waiting to something like that out of him. He converted on the opportunity today. I honestly thought either Foster or Kid would be my first champion, but this is excellent!

Yes, I needed that win and the points. Baring a complete collaspe on my part I should make the playoffs. Also, I was worried about that fight with Vic I'm glad that Candido kept his belt.
Man, the race for the 1st seed overall is freaking tight right now.
