Season 2: MVP Candidates (Silver Conference)

Candidate #5:

Bantamweight Champion - Alfonso Zamora (Hebron Haymakers)
Season 2 Record: 17-1-2 (14)

Although one of the last of the ever-shrinking original members of the Hebron Haymakers, Alfonso Zamora clearly has a reason to stick around. He captured the Bantamweight Championship in Season 2 and shows no signs of letting it go.

Highlights:
  • 8 Successful Title Defenses (all wins by KO/TKO)
  • Season 2 Top Points Scored Award Winner - Silver Conference
  • Signature Wins: KO9 CH-Jeff Chandler, W-U12 Memphis Pal Moore

The 5 MVP Candidates for the Silver Conference have been posted.

Silver Conference managers should PM SAL with 3 choices rated 1,2,3 (1-highest, 3-lowest)

Feel free to vote for a "write-in" candidates if you disagree w/ the posted candidates.

This is alot harder vote then the Gold Conference due to the lack of any standout candidates like Walker, Foster, and Edwin. Anyone of these guys could win it makes me glad that I don't have to vote on this one.

I've got 5 guys in the tourney, and I figure it gets each one a bout closer to going prime. Becerra is probably my best shot at doing something. #3 seed as an expansion team's fighter who was at beginning stage through most as the season is an outstanding achievement. Both of my light heavies have tough draws and the old puncher's chance. Adamick had a good season but Carpentier is a tough stud to go against. (I tried to draft guys that gave me a puncher's chance and you could tell by the large number of ko's in Unstable's matches.) Pipino's power might see him through a round or two but he hasn't performed consistantly for me. As my other nine, he underperformed. Hindsight has me wondering if I shoud have gone another way with my second #9 selection than him. Chitalada was another steady guy for me. Since they've all gotten to pre-prime they might surprise me. Anything past round one is gravy and a step closer to prime.

Wow - no kidding. I totally missed that. Hell of a bad week there, considering he only had 2 losses in 2 seasons (one to the Mick) going in.

Yeah, a bit of bad luck for there but he lose to a couple of good fighters so it happens. I can see how you missed it as I'm sure you just expect 4 wins from those two by now the way they've been performing.

My man, Elmer Ray, isn't even in the top 20, but I'd match him up against Nino any day of the week. They don't call boxing the theatre of the unexpected for nothing. There will always be surprises like Valdez. Keeps things interesting. Remember the short lived shock when, by dint of ko win, Justin Juuko crept into the top 16 for a week. Even though he's on my team I didn't have any expections about him staying there any longer than his next bout.

Do we just vote for MVP's in our own conference or do we vote for both?

I debated doing this, but after reading some of the other posts, I figured I owed it to my boy to point out a couple of things that set him apart from his competition in the MVP voting...

1) He is the P4P champ - not just in his division, but in the entire UTBA, and not by a few points, but by 150.

2) He has gone 2 entire seasons without either a loss or a draw. Walker's record is flawless.

3) He is, I believe, the only guy to hold the title in his weight class from beginning to end.

Both Rosario and Foster have had excellent seasons, but neither can boast any of these three acheivements.

Alright, enough stumping.

I ran Nino's two upsets in the schedular, he beat Peter Jackson 4% as a beginner while against Heeney while at Pre-Prime Nino actually won over 50% of the fights. I even ran the Heeney series three times and each time Nino took it so I guess it wasn't all that much of a upset.

Heeney doesn't have a punch, and Nino is a tough cookie. Ray, on the other hand, has a punch. Were I to select the top 32 heavies of all time to run a tourney Elmer Ray is in there. The Trunzo's used my bio of Elmer in the game. He's one of my all-time personal favorites. I rate him as the number two heavyweight in the 40's behind Louis. He was that good.

Sadly, I don't really know alot about the real life Elmer Ray but I do root for him to do good in the league mainly because of KC's portaryal of him in the HBF. I ran a Nino/Elmer series and yeah Ray handled him easily. That was a heck of a job on the bio you did.

I've been enjoying the hell out of KC's Elmer Ray thread myself. Thank's for the compliment. I was worried KC was gonna draft Ray, because of the thread, but he went with Cleveland Williams, with Ray as his second choice. Williams was my second choice after Ray. LOL, great minds thinking alike. I gave KC's draft pick Costner a real long look, too before opting for Pipino as my other 9. Thought about going with Becerra and Jesus Pimental as a pair of #9 bantams but decided to more evenly didtribute my point allotment. If Pipino doesn't improve on an inconsistant season, I may regret my choice, here.

Yeah, it's a pain when one of your higher rated fighters just don't live up to their potenial I've been going though that with Paul Pender. Of course, I can always just blame SAL for that since he pick Pender. Pipino should be able right the boat next year he's one of the better fighter in the weightclass so I don't see any reason for him not to like Edwin suffer 5 loses last season before going on that amazing run he's on now so there's hope for Pipino.

I can understand wanting to spread the points evenly but the Breavers stacked one division and it worked well for them before this year. I know my plan for the draft is to dump my MWs and reinforce some weaknesses in my other divisions and go with a bit of a donut team.
