I really wanted Basilio to hold onto that title for a while, but Zale is a tough customer. If Walker can get by Taylor, it will be his mission to bring the title back home. As it stands, he is the only Beaver left in the tourney.

Guess I gotta dump my avatar already.

Given this my second round pick is a choice between three guys: Archie Longpants, J. C. Chavez, or soon to be prime Max Schmeling. Do I go for best guy available--Archie Moore, or do I go for need Chavez or Schmeling?

This is just me but I would take Moore without a second thought. Take the best available in the first round and then in the second look to plug some holes. Both LW and HW have good depth to them in this draft you'll probably be to grab at least a 9 rated fighter in one of those weightclasses in the second round. Moore will turn into the top fighter in that class which aside from Foster doesn't have alot of really elite fighters in it.

UTBA Draft

Managers of the UTBA,

The Draft will begin on 11/03/2006 at 12 noon CST.
When it is your teams turn to make a selection, please make it within 24 hours
of your turn or PM me a list with fighters ordered in priority that you want them to be drafted. Thanks and good luck in the draft.

The draft order along with the team caps is on page one of the Utba draft thread one post below the draft pool.

The trade wire will close 11/03/2006 at 12 noon CST.

I'll update the rosters on page one after the Individual tournaments are done. I'll also release all of Punching Gatitos fighters to the draft pool.

What I like about Archie is the skill set he brings: a banger with defense and a chin that makes things interesting. He's a better version of Jose Becerra. If you followed my thread on fictional fighters I created a guy named Corbett Flynn based on the idealized James J. Corbett played by Errol Flynn in Gentleman Jim. Steele's punch, Conn's footwork and a chin that could be floored by the Ropers of the world. Same set of skills in my idealization as in Moore. This might let you know where I'm leaning.

If someone wants a productive #5 rated light heavy Julian Letterlough 5-15-0 (4) *pre-prime might be available.

Yep, Catalion hasn't been on the boards since the last draft so SAL decided to drop the team and bring in the 5 expansion teams.

I don't think Archie's chin will be that big of an weakness for him since he'll be in control most of the time due to his CFs and his defense is so high that landing big shots on him will be tough. I love Archie's skill set the guy I'm looking at as my main target has a very similar skill set, expect for the defense, once Archie goes at least pre-prime I think we'll see a reign of terror that makes Walker's look tame by comparison.

It will be tough to not take a guy who is arguably one of the best four or five ever in his weight class.

If I'm not mistaken Moore is the top rated LHW in the game everyone else is at 12 or lower and chances are none of those 12s will be showing up for awhile at least. The guy will make y'all tough to beat you'll have pretty much 6 points right off the bat every match.

Wow, there were a lot of post over the weekend when I can't go online... took me a while to read through all of them... lol

If I count correctly I still have 3 of my 9 boxers who are still fighting in the EOY tournaments, not bad, and Byrd is having a surprising run along with Jose Antonio Rivera who beat the defending champion I hope they all make it to the finals of the tournament *crosses fingers*

I think we oughtta pass a rule that if you aren't reading every day, your boxers automatically lose. All in favor?

You are right. In the game, he is. In my own ATG listing he's top five.

I've never actually sat down and banged up a list but if I did Moore would be Top 5 or 3 easily. Man, with Moore and Adamick you'd have a nasty LHW division thats the kind of pairing that can carry a team real far.
