I think at this point it's pretty safe to say that Ray Patterson isn't going to amount to much in your league.

September 1960
Winners: Ali continued to impress with a 1st round knockout of Colin Beatty, beating Colin for the second time. Peralta, Jones, and Mildenberger all were victorious. Jones ran his record to 7-0 with 6 knockouts. Upsets: No major upsets again. Movement: Von Homburg and Bobo Renfrow moved to pre-prime. From here on out i will not let a fighter fight more than 3 months in a row. The monthly updates will be short and sweet like this until we get to some fight cards. |

October 1960
None of the big names fought this month. The guys that were supposed to win did. Movement: Vic Brown and Buddy Moore moved up to pre-prime. Starting next month i am going to try and start some small local tourneys like the GPBA tourney for some smaller belts. |

Mildenberger Captures German Title!!
November 1960
Nurnberg, Germany - For men came to compete for the newly formed German Heavyweight belt and when the dust settled Karl Mildenberger was the last man standing. The German Championship came down to Wilhelm Von Homburg 6-0 (5) versus Karl Mildenberger 6-0-1. The bout was scheduled for 12 rounds which favored Mildenberger who had gone the distance in all of his fights whil Von Homburg had knocked out 5 of his 6 opponents by the 4th round. From start to finish Mildenberger dominated Von Homburg by keeping the slugger at a distance. The first 8 rounds were all scored 10-9 in Mildenberger's favor. The plodding Von Homburg only connected on 25% of his punches while Mildenberger was far more accurate hitting connecting 54% of the time. Von Homburg picked up two of the last fours rounds but it was too little too late. All judges scored the fight in Mildenberger's favor giving him the Unanimous Decision and the GPBA belt. Here is a link to a site i have been working on which will have the banner made by Lee up soon. I am open to suggestions on different links i should have along the left side. http://backintheday.allsimbaseball2....d=23&Itemid=38 |

November 1960
Winners: Okay other than the tourney for the GPBA title it was a pretty quite month. Leotis Martin ran his record to 8-0 (6) with a 10th round knockout of Argentinian Justo Benitez. Italian Plinio Scarabellin, Billy Daniels and Elmer Rush all picked up victories. Upsets: I dont know if this is still an upset but Ray Patterson 1-4 suffered another loss this time to Mustafa Lahal. I had hoped Ray was going to get on track but alas it looks as if like Romdawg said Ray will not amount to much in my little world. Movement: Vic Brown moved to pre-prime |

Ok, here goes again ...
... Since I hit with the last prediction, for this one I will go with De Piccoli just because he's the only one I've ever heard of. Didn't he win an Olympic medal at some point? I'm alot less confident of this one than Mildenberger, though. Question -- are the numbers to the left in parens the boxer ratings? If so, then De Piccoli looks like an underdog to the first guy who looks like he has a 6 rating.
Nice looking website, by the way. Who held Mildenberger to a draw? |

Well for some reason (computer crash i think) Mildenberger and Nitschke wound up find twice. In the first fight they fought to draw. From what i understand i could delete the fight but it would not correct the record so i figured no big deal.

November 1960
A very quiet month as all of the Italians were off due to the tournament coming in Decemeber. Doug Jones improved to 8-0 (6) and Leotis Martin won with a 10th round knockout moving to 9-0 (6). Fellow Americans Arnie Brower moved to 7-0 (5) while Elmer Rush is 6-0 (5). Movement: Doug Jones, Dave Furch and Buddy Moore all moved to pre-prime. There are rumors that there will be a new regional US title possibly in California. |

New York, NY - The fighters have been announced for the New York State Tournament. The first round of the fight will take place January 1st with the first fight kicking off at 12:01 am. The first round matchups will be the following:
#1 (7) Doug Jones 8-0 (6) vs #8 (1) Lou Hicks 0-0 #2 (6) Billy Daniels 5-0 (2) vs #7 (1) Fred Williams 1-3 #3 (3) Arnie Brower 7-0 (5) vs #6 (1) Vic Brown 3-2 (2) #4 (5) Hubert Hilton 3-1 (3) vs #5 (1) Dick Wipperman 4-1 (2) There is some controversy surrounding the higher seeding of Arnie Brower over Hubert Hilton. Many feel that Hilton should have been a #3 not a #4 and thus would have had an easier matchup against Vic Brown instead of Dick Wipperman. |

1st Round of IHBA Tourney In the Books
November 1960
Milan, Italy - The first round of the IHBA tourney to crown an Italian Champion got under way four bouts on the card. (6) Plinio Scarabellin 6-0 (3) vs (1) Mario Fioroli 1-1-1 This one was over before it started. Fioroli was able to do very little in the first round only landing only 9 punches. Twenty seconds into round two Plinio put Fioroli on the canvas, but Fiorili was able to get back up. Fioroli was just putting off the inevitable because 30 seconds later Scarabellin put Fioroli down for good. Scarabellin will move on to face the winner of the Penna versus Zanaboni fight. (3) Benito Penna 4-0 (3) vs (3) Masimo Zannaboni 3-0 (1) The fight got off to a slow start as both fighters were trying to figure each other out. The fighters took turns winning the first four rounds the next 3 rounds went to Zannaboni only because he was more active than Penna. Penna tried to give the judges a a reason to give him the fight with a solid 8th round but it was too little too late. Neither fighter landed many punches and they both missed 75% of their punches. Zannaboni will need to do much more to compete with Scarabellin. (4) Franco De Piccoli 3-0 (3) vs (2) Giorgio Masteghin 2-1 Franco took the fight to Giorgio from the opening bell. While Franco missed with a lot of punches the ones he did hit Giorgio with did their job as Masteghin was knocked down twice and had both eyes swollen by the end of the fight. The judges decided that Franco won the fight giving him a win by Unanimous Decision. (5) Piero Tomasini 2-0 (1) vs (1) Celio Turrini 2-3 (1) Piero Tomasini took every round in a fight that probably should have been ended early. Piero was able to connect on 45% of his punches while keeping Turini away and allowing him to only land 18% of his punches. Turrini was cut early in the fight and never recovered from that. Tomasini will go on to face De Piccoli in what should be a very good fight. Movement: Scarabellin, Tomasini, and Turini all advanced to pre-prime Last edited by gocubsgo; 08-19-2006 at 01:56 AM. |
