Okay the first year is done and it has been fun so far but the real world seems to get in the way too much. I am going to bring in some new boxers probably only 5-10 and they will most likely be from 1957-1959. These seem to be some lean years for the heavyweight division so i may stick to the low side. Any tips or criticism is welcomed within reason.
.The New Year will start off with round two of the Italian Heavyweight tourney as well as round 1 of the New York tourney. We should begin to see some competition for the USBA and the EBU titles early in the year and hopefully Ali will pickup his fighting schedule. Thanks to those who are reading and here's to a great 1961. |

Happy New Year - January 1961
New York State Tournament (NYBA) Round 1:
#1 (7) Doug Jones 8-0 (6) vs #8 (1) Lou Hicks 0-0 - Jones wins in a 8 round UD. Not a good showing for the tourney favorite fighting a kid in his first fight. #2 (6) Billy Daniels 5-0 (2) vs #7 (1) Fred Williams 1-3 - After getting knocked down 30 seconds into the fight Daniels recovers and dominates taking an 8 round UD #3 (3) Arnie Brower 7-0 (5) vs #6 (1) Vic Brown 3-2 (2) - Brower wins an 8 round UD but almost didnt make it out of the 2nd round. Brown was knocked down 5 times but had also opened a nasty cut on Brower. Much better fight than the UD might show. #4 (5) Hubert Hilton 3-1 (3) vs #5 (1) Dick Wipperman 4-1 (2) - Hilton wins with a 5th round TKO |

IHBA Tourney 2nd Round
December 1960
(6) Plinio Scarabellin 7-0 (4) vs (3) Masimo Zannaboni 4-0 (1) The first fourd rounds were a see saw battle with each fighter winning two rounds. Plinio began to find his range in the 5th thru the 8th rounds keeping Masimo off balance the whole. For the last two rounds Plinio went on the defense and held on for the Majority Decision victory sending him into the IHBA CHampionship bout. (4) Franco De Piccoli 4-0 (3) vs (5) Piero Tomasini 3-0 (1) This was a somewhat boring fight with both fighters on the defensive and neither one taking control of things. Finally in the 8th round Piero decided the fight was too close and took control winning the last three rounds. The judges decided he had done enough to move on and gave Tomasini the Majority Decision. The IHBA Championship bout will pitt: (6) Plinio Scarabellin 8-0 (4) vs (5) Piero Tomasini 3-0 (1) Sorry guys i forgot to post this one. |

IHBA Championship
January 1961
(6) Plinio Scarabellin 8-0 (4) vs (5) Piero Tomasini 3-0 (1) Scarabellin got off to a fast start and never seemed to look back. He took the fight to Tomasini to put him down on the canvas twice in the first two rounds. By the 4th round Tomasini had swelling in both eyes and was far behind on the score cards already. At the 2:33 mark in the 5th round Scarabellin hit Tomasini with a cross to the head that sent Tomasini down for the count. Plinio Scarabellin became the first IHBA Champion. |

In an effort to move things along a bit and get some more guys ranked quicker i am going to impose a couple new scheduling guidelines. If a fighter wins then he will fight the next month until he fights 3 months in a row then he will take a break. If a fighter loses then he is off the next month. I am going to do this until i get guys to 10 fights this way they can be ranked. After they are at 10 fights i will revert back to Mikes way of scheduling via generating percentages and checking knockdowns.

Yeah I struggled with that at first. I didn't have a title match until late 1901. The way I did it was the first two fighters to 7 wins fought for the title. I ranked them at 10 also instead of 15 like I do now. I'm even debating going to 20 soon.

January 1961
New York State Tournament (NYBA) Round 2:
#1 (7) Doug Jones 9-0 (6) vs #4 (5) Hubert Hilton 4-1 (4) The first seven rounds of this one were boring with Jones dominating each round and Hilton looking outclassed and confused, then came the eight round. Jones looked ready to end this one sending Hilton to the canvas once for an 6 count and the second time Hilton barely escaped standing at 9. Somehow Hilton was able to stay standing the last 30 seconds of the round. Thirty seconds into the ninth Hilton hit Jones with a crushing right to the head which sent Jones to the canvas. A stunned crowd was on their feet counting Jones out with the referee. Jones was able to get back to his feet and beat the referee's count. Jones would recover and take the 10th round win by Unanimous decision. #2 (6) Billy Daniels 6-0 (2) vs #3 (3) Arnie Brower 8-0 (5) This one was pretty uneventful with Daniels cutting Brower in the 3rd and dominating him until the 9th round when the referee stopped the fight and Daniels got the win with a 9th round TKO. The chamionship will be: #1 (7) Doug Jones 10-0 (6) vs #2 (6) Billy Daniels 7-0 (3) |

February 1961
New York State Tournament (NYBA) Championship:
#1 (7) Doug Jones 10-0 (6) vs #2 (6) Billy Daniels 7-0 (3) Jones started off the match taking the first two rounds and looking dominant. Somthing happened in the third round and Bully Daniels woke up and took the fight to Jones taking the next five rounds of the fight, scheduled for twelve. The fighter each took one of the next two rounds with neither really taking control. Early into the 10th round Jones stung Daniels with a jab that also opened a cut over his right eye. Jones continued to put the pressure on Daniels and kept attacking the cut over Daniels eye. With just 40 seconds left in the fight Daniels had blood gushing from his eye and the ref stepped in to stop the fight. Jones would take the NYBA belt with a 12th TKO over Daniels. |

Not a lot of excitement here as a couple of more fighters get to 10 fights so that they can be ranked. We now have an official although very limited top 5 and it reads as follows.
1. (7) Leotis Martin 11-0 (8) 2. (7) Doug Jones 11-0 (7) 3. (3) Arnie Brower 9-1 (6) 4. (6) Plinio Scarabellin 10-0 (6) 5. (4) Roberto Davila 7-2-1 Could a Jones vs Martin fight for the USBA be far away? Movement: All of the following moved to Pre-prime Mohammed Afonso Gerry De Bruyn Tony Doyle Georgio Masteghin Lars Norling Benito Penna Georgio Peralta Yvan Prebeg Two of the rookies won their first fights. Noburu Kataoka with a 10 round UD Niumaetolu Mahini with a 10 round UD Rodolfo Diaz suffered a loss in a 10 round SD |

WWBA Top 10:
1. (7) Leotis Martin 12-0 (9) 2. (7) Doug Jones 12-0 (8) 3. (3) Arnie Brower 10-1 (6) 4. (6) Plinio Scarabellin 11-0 (7) 5. (5) Karl Mildenberger 9-0 (1) 6. (4) Roberto Davila 8-2-1 One new fighter joins the Top 10 there should be a whole bunch more guys joining next month. Barring a major setback i can see Martin and Jones clashing very soon. Rookies: (6) Noburu Kataoka 2-0 with a 10 round UD (2) Niumaetolu Mahini 2-0 (1) with a 3rd round knockout Newcomers: (3) Yutaka Nakagoshi - Japan (1) Geroge Mahoni - New Zealand I am trying to add fighters to fill out some of the other regional titles which is why there havent been any american added. Movement: All moved to pre-prime Mohammed Afonso Jimmy Fletcher Bob Foster Billy Joiner Ray Patterson - has won 2 fights in a row Billy Walker Dick Wipperman Massimo Zanaboni |

Walker would come out strong hitting Mildenberger a couple of times with solid shots. From the on it was all Mildenberger who had one of Walker's eyes just about closed by the 5th round. The judges had the fight scored 99-91, 100-92, and 98-92 Title - (7) Leotis Martin 13-0 (10) vs (7) Doug Jones 13-0 (9) Rd 1 - Jones kept his distance connecting with jabs and getting out overall a very slow round. We score 10-9 Jones. Rd 2 - Jones brought the fight to Martin who seemed to stand there and take it. Several times Jones had Martin trapped on the ropes stunning Martin a couple of times. Martin is yet to get into a rhythm. We score this one 10-9. Jones leads 20-18. Rd 3 - Martin comes to life hitting Jones several times and keeping active. This round goes to Martin 10-9. Overall 29-28. Rd 4 - Very boring round with neither fighter doing much but Jones doing more. Jones wins this on 10-9. Overall 39-37. Rd 5 - Another slow round other than one of Martins punches that shook Jones. After that the round was mostly Jones holding. We give Martin this round 10-9. Overall 48-47. Rd 6 - Martin was the aggressor this round hitting Jones with several hard shots. Jones has been very quiet the last two rounds and seems to be confused. Martin wins 10-9 and overall this one is even 57-57 Rd 7 - Martin stays on the attack while Jones can only hug and hold. Jones looks out of gas and might not last the distance. Martin takes the 7th 10-9 and now leads 67-66. Rd 8 - Jones seems to come to life this round landing some solid punches and staggering Martin once. The 8th goes to Jones and we have this even 76-76. Rd 9 - Both fighters appear to take this round off but Martin seems to have more success. We give this to Martin 10-9, overall Martin leads 86-85. Rd 10 - Martin is all over Jones knocking him down this round. Jones is able to recover and get up by the referees count of 5. Jones hangs on and makes it thru the 10th. Martins wins this 10-8 and now lead 96-93. Rd 11 - Jones doesnt appear to show up for the 11th getting hit several times and not landing any punches to speak of. Martin now has a commanding lead taking the 11th 10-9 and leading 106-102. Rd 12 - Jones comes out strong landing several punches but appears to forget about playing defense. Martin knocks Jones down and Jones cannot get off the canvas. Martin wins the USBA title via 12th round KO. |

Things will be on hold for a bit while i get my laptop fixed. Dell sent me a new motherboard but neglected to tell me i would need a degree to replace it. Supposedly a tech will be out in the next few days but who the heck knows.
