No Holds Barred Universe

Taken from The San Francisco Sun, dated December 26th, 2006.

It's the age old question, who would win between a good boxer and a good wrestler?
That question was to be answered here at the Bill Graham Civic Center on Saturday night, when top amatuer wrestler, Dan 'The Beast' Severn, signed to fight boxer Aaron 'The Hawk' Pryor.
However, Pryor, who is due to make his GBA boxing debut next month, was pulled by his handlers at the last minute. They claimed they didn't know what the fight entailed when signing for it, originally thinking it was to be an exhibition. They wasn't prepared to risk injury to their man, so Pryor was pulled.
The fight looked to be in jeopardy until at the last minute local martial artist Bruce 'The Dragon' Lee stepped forward to save the day, claiming that his fighting concept, which he has named 'Jeet Kune Do', can beat any man, regardless of size. And a difference in size there was, as during the pre-fight instructions Severn dwarfed his opponent. It didn't seem to bother Lee one iota.
The bell sounded to begin the contest, and both fighters circled one another, weighing each other up. Then the fleet flooted Lee made his move, darting in to try and hit his foe. However, the Coldwater, Michigan native caught Lee and slammed him onto the canvas, where he proceded to give him a few good, hard slaps to the face, before Lee managed to regain his feet.
However, he was soon back on the deck, with Severn using one of his Greco-Roman takedowns. He immediately punched and slapped 'The Little Dragon', before applying a choke hold and forcing Lee to tap out at the ten minute mark.
So, on this night, the wrestler was the better man, although it would be interesting to see Dan Severn in against someone more his own size. A dissapointed Bruce Lee was positive in defeat, stating that he would like to learn grappling, and add it to his repertoire.

PRESS RELEASE
1st February, 2007

Global Fighting Championship [GFC] spokesman Mitch Brown today released the following statement;
The GFC will be holding an eight man elimination tournament in March. The venue has yet to be decided but it will be held here in the USA. We have filled seven of the 8 places, and will shortly be releasing details of the fighters.
We are still currently trying to fill the eighth vacancy. We have had plenty of applicants for it, but as yet none have fit the bill. We had one guy, a recluse from Canada, who sent us in pics of himself in monk's garb by a lake. When we went to check him out, we found out he had absolutely no fighting experience. He'd have been a danger to himself.
Rest assured, we will have the final contestant soon, and details of the other seven will be released over the next few days.

What is this, how in the hell did I miss this theard. Heck of a opening line-up you got there I'm torn on who to pick for the tournment. Rickson has to be the favorite right now though I don't know who can handle him on the ground.

Cheers Romy. It's great to have you on board. Rickson's got to be one of the favourite's, although it's a tough one to pick. And remember, the eighth contestant hasn't been announced yet, and he's a bit tasty

Now, I'm real interested in finding out who the eighth man is. Lets see if I can guess the line up is made up of early fighters so it probably won't be someone from now, you already have a Gracie so it probably isn't Royce, and you going with big names. I'm guessing Igor Vovchanchyn or Mark Kerr.

Great starting points. Also, if you can get a copy of UFC Hits: Volume 1 you can see the better fights from the early years of the sport in the US.

Here are some highlights of the contestants to give those who don't really know alot about these guys a taste of what each was about. I couldn't find any for Mario Sperry or Oleg Taktarov. Also if you check around the sites like Daily Motion or Youtube you can find full fights for these guys as well.

This I like!!!

Always loved Martial Arts. The early UFC action was the NHB highlight for me.

Being a standup fighter myself, I hope that Mo Smith is going to do well in the beginning. He will have a hard time on the ground though...
