Halifax - Detective Vic Langille has pursued his own line of investigation in the Scott case and come up with some interesting facts. Staff at the hotel say the door to the champion's room was locked, but the key was missing. The house dick confided to Langille that the windows were locked. He also says that he saw the body on the bed with the gun in his left hand. Most fans know that Scott was right-handed! When Langille was allowed access to the room, he found cigarette ash on the floor and the stub of a popular turkish cigarette in the drawer of the bathroom cabinet. It is well known that the Englishman did not favour tobacco of any sort. These and other findings have raised serious doubts that Scott's death was suicide.

Halifax - This report just came in on the wire service. Ace chief of detectives for the NYPD Nick Kompoop announced today that, "...This Scott person was obviously a foreigner and we all know what foreigners are like. Besides who had a better opportunity to kill him than he did? Also, there was a bullet in his head and a gun in his hand. We all know that bullets come from guns, so there is the obvious probability that they are connected somehow. Our top scientific guys are working overtime on how the bullet got into his head. I expect a break any time now. Also, did I mention he was a foreigner?..."

Halifax - World boxing officials meeting in Montreal have declared the heavyweight title vacant and are asking promoters to submit plans for an elimination tournament. There will be a brief period of mourning for the deceased champion. In an aside, the official coroner's verdict is "death by misadventure" ending any further investigation by police.

Snyder Gets Dumped Winnipeg - It was supposed to be an easy defence of the British Empire title he won from Jock McAvoy. Just a tuneup really, for a shot at one of the top boys. Angus Snyder of this town got the shock of a lifetime when the scorecards were read last night and the victory and title went to Alberta's Eddie "The Viking" Wenstob. Referee Lou Marsh and the two judges all had Wenstob the winner by a wide margin and explained afterwards that Snyder was just not trying hard enough through most of the match. Wenstob, the blonde battler from Viking Alberta went in a decided underdog, but emerged a champion, improving his record to 20-5-1. Snyder dropped to 28-4-1 and can kiss the big money good-bye. Contenders Avoid Tournament New York - Managers of many of the world's top heavyweight boxing contenders are saying they are reluctant to sign up for any tournament not involving the top two men in the division. Herb Finegold, front man for Jersey Joe Walcott, says bluntly,"If Schmeling and Lenglet ain't in it, how legit can it be? We want assurances from the North American Boxing Commission that they will recognize the winner of a tournament in these United States of America as the real World Champion, no matter what those European shysters claim!" The head of the Commission was on a fact-finding mission in Nevada and was unavailable for comment. |

Berlin to Host Major Fight Berlin - Max Schmeling will defend his EBU title this weekend against leading challenger Andre Lenglet of France. The 15-round bout will be staged in this city at the Poststadion arena, headlining a card featuring world-class European and British fighters, including Walter Neusel and Jack Peterson. Schmeling has been in seclusion at his mountain-side training camp for some weeks now, and scouting reports say he is in great form and likely will enter the ring at about 13 stone or 187 pounds. Betting favours the German, but Lenglet's backers are being cagey, waiting for better odds. |

Flashed via London from La Presse Francais wire service
Champion Murdered Paris - Andre Lenglet, champion heavyweight boxer, was reportedly shot and killed just hours ago while waiting to board a train to Berlin. At least three shots were fired by a bearded assailant before he could be subdued by members of the French champion's party. Unfortunately, during the ensuing melee the assassin was himself killed by a single pistol shot from the crowded platform. Unsubstantiated reports indicate the assassin may have been a member of the shadowy criminal terrorist society known as the Black Circle. |

Excerpt from the Montreal Gazette
Halifax - The Chronicle has dispatched ace reporter Joe O'Herlihy and detective Vic Langille on the Atlantic clipper Nordica to cover the breaking story in Paris. O'Herlihy was only recently released from hospital, having recovered from injuries sustained while on duty in New York City. Last edited by Cap : 03-22-2007 at 06:17 PM. |

London - The latest intelligence flashed from the continent is that Andre Lenglet has survived the apparent attempt on his life. According to police, a young gendarme tackled the would-be assassin as his weapon discharged, and was killed in attempting to make an arrest. Lenglet was unharmed, but a bodyguard was wounded. The assailant has yet to be identified.
