Brockton, MA - Local boy Rocco Marchegiano aka Marciano improved his record to 15-0 with 11 knockouts last night when he stopped Carmine Vingo in 5 vicious rounds. Vingo sustained a serious cut over his left eye early in the fight and was saved from further damage by the referee. On the same card young Zora Folley picked up his 8th win by outpointing Bob Dunlap over eight rounds. <Brockton Banner>

Glasgow, Scotland - Before a boisterous mob at Kelvin Hall, Canada's Bud MacEachern put on the best performance of his career, punching out the lights of former world title-holder Luigi Musina in six rounds. Musina seemed to have no answer for MacEachern's wild overhand right which landed repeatedly from the second round on with devastating effect. Musina was hurt badly in the fifth just before the bell, and the Cape Breton Kid finished the job with seconds gone in the sixth. A left hook was the finisher. Fans of the dark haired Canuck battler are sure this win will propel him into the top ten.

Paris, France - The scene is Le Salle Wagram and it's a small but noisy crowd when Meyer "KO" Christner steps through he ropes to face local idol Marcel Lauriot. Most serious fight fans at ringside have put their francs on the big hard-punching American. The first two rounds are literally give and take, with no clear advantage to either man, though near the close of the second round Lauriot lands a hard wallop to Christner's chin that seems to wabble him. Seconds into the third round, this reporter turned to check out the shapely brunette in the next aisle, when boom! Lauriot crashed home another hard right to Christner's temple and it was all over save the counting. The handsome Frenchman is now 29-8-0 with 18 knockouts and a lovely brunette for a fiance.

SCHMELING SIGNS TO FIGHT LOUIS

New York - Max Schmeling, current holder of the European heavyweight championship and the only active fighter to boast a win over world champion Joe Louis, today signed articles to face Louis at Madison Square Garden. The dark-visaged German arrived on the airship Nordica early yesterday and met with promoter Mike Jacobs this morning to finalize the agreement. The much-anticipated battle is expected to generate huge boxoffice, and Schmeling is rumoured to be getting a guaranteed purse of $250,000 plus a healthy percentage of the live gate. Louis has been promised at least one million dollars for what, many fans think, will be an easy defence of the title he won from another European heavyweight.

New York - Madison Square Garden Promotions has announced that the main undercard bout "...will pit veteran heavyweight Al Gainer against South America's sensational Alberto "Santiago" Lovell." Also to appear on the card are Joe Baksi, Pat Comiskey, and Brockton prospect Rocco Marchigano.

New York - A massive flood of ticket requests convinced promoter Mike Jacobs to open negotiations with Yankee Stadium to stage the Louis-Schmeling fight there instead of Madison Square Garden. As many as 80,000 spectators are expected to attend one of the most highly publicized championship fights in the history of the ring. Celebrities from the worlds of sports, politics and film have laid out big money for the priviledge of sitting ringside and millions will be listening to their radios at home.

The big card is this weekend. Marciano's opponent is expected to be Al Boros who has been around the block and is 1-4 in his last five. Just added to the card is Australia's Alf Gallagher whose opponent is TBA. I'll be updating my webpage when the results are in.

Maxim, who won a split decision over Charles was 6-1 going in with his sole loss a decision to Zora Folley.

In real life, they fought 5 times, twice while Charles was a big middleweight, and Ezzard won every time, though each time by decision and once by majority decision. So I don't think a split decision win for Maxim is too shocking.

NOTE - the last bunch of fighters recently introduced to the main mix were mostly from the 1950s with a handful of guys from later periods.

Santiago - Arturo Godoy, the fast-rising heavyweight contender from Chile in South America, is scheduled to defend his Campeonato Americano Latino title this weekend against Argentine giant Abel Cestac. Godoy says he plans on celebrating his upcoming 20th win by flying to New York to sign a contract to meet world champion Joe Louis. The overtly confident challenger claims he and his people have been conducting long-distance negotiations with Mike Jacobs and the 20th Century A.C. at Madison Square Garden.

Halifax - News out of Detroit is that Joe Louis' people are seriously considering an offer to defend the world heavyweight title next month in Montreal against Nova Scotia's Bud MacEachern. The "Cape Breton Kid" is coming off a good win over highly ranked contender Pat Comiskey in Boston, but is still seen as a big underdog. Meanwhile, a source from the camp of Jersey Joe Walcott, says that they have a tentative agreement to meet Louis next month either in Detroit or New York.

Santiago - Last night at the Palacio de Santiago Latin American heavyweight champion Arturo Godoy defended his title successfully against Abel Cestac via a dull but unanimous 10 round decision. Godoy appeared to have more trouble than expected from the lumbering Argentine and seemed somewhat out of condition, tiring visibly by the middle of the eighth round.

Good stuff Cap, looks like Schmeling is on his last legs.

Do you have Young Stribling active as a HW in your universe, and if so how is he doing?

Stribling has been retired now for just over a year, having compiled a record of 38-7-0 with 13 KOs. His last two fights were losses to Tiger Jack Fox and Billy Conn.

As for Unser Max, he's about to announce his retirement.....
