Max Schmeling, former heavyweight champion of Europe, yesterday announced his retirement from boxing. In a related story, Andre Lenglet of France, one-time world heavyweight champion, had his boxing license revoked by the European Boxing Union after failing a pre-fight medical examination. Lenglet was coming back from a sixty day suspension following his sixth loss in as many fights.

Meanwhile, rising Aussie star Mickey "Grippa" Bourke avenged his recent disputed loss to England's Reg Andrews with a lopsided judges' verdict at Blackfriar's Ring in London.
