I cant wait for the new database. Hopefully, there will be improvement with mass-changing abilities so we wont have to go through our databases and change everything by hand one at a time! Im interested to see what Andreas has done with the graphics of the game also. Anyways, put in a good word for us loyal "open" game simmers, thanks.

Both Chris and I are very much "open" players so that will help. The RPG will draw in new gamers which is important. I will enjoy it as a side venture but see myself getting bored with it like I do with all other text sims. In the end the LBA will live on!

Tough debut for Chavez...

Julio Cesar Chavez, Mexico, Pro Debut vs. Jose Carrillo, Mexico, Pro Debut

ESPN, is proud to present the debut of what many consider to be one of the greatest Mexican amateurs of all-time, Julio Cesar Chavez. Chavez amassed an amazing record of 108-6-2 (87) in the amateurs and was quickly signed to a pro contract by Aztec Promotions when he decided to fight under the bright lights. Teddy Atlas, Brian Kenny and Joe T. are here to get a first-hand glimpse of a fast growing national hero. It will be interesting to see how Chavez does under all of this scrutiny, especially since another national hero, Erik Morales, just came off a marvelous performance in his debut the other night. Chavez is moving around the ring and lands a two-punch combo followed by a violent body shot that sends Carrillo down at the midway point of the 1st. Carrillo goes down for the second time in the round but manages to get up in time to survive the round. Chavez lands a volley of punches but Carrillo counters and make the round close. Carrillo is trapped in the corner and Chavez unleashes a flurry of punches, 25-5. Both boxers have swelling around their eyes. Chavez has been warned for punching below the belt and holding behind the neck. I have Carrillo winning the 4th, his first round. Round 5 and Chavez shows his experience by controlling the pace and flow of the fight. Chavez is picking his shots, using angles and circling around to the right to avoid Carrillo’s right hand. Round 6 is action-packed as both fighters exchange volleys. Both fighters have some swelling, Carrillo’s left eye is nearly shut, while Chavez is having problems with both eyes. The ref is looking closely at Carrillo as Chavez lands, 28-2. I am surprised that Carrillo survived the round. Carrillo is definitely a much better fighter than advertised ( “1” ranking). The 9th is another Chavez round but the ref has issued a second warning to Chavez for low blows. Chavez doubles up on his jab and lands a nice hook that sends Carrillo down to the canvas. Carrillo is up at six but goes down again with :2 seconds left in the round. Amazingly, Carrillo gets up, wants to continue, and is allowed to. I don’t think Carrillo has recovered from the knockdowns he suffered in the last round. Carrillo is unable to avoid any of the punches and is not throwing any of his own. The referee finally steps in and mercifully ends the fight. Julio Cesar Chavez is victorious in his debut with a (TKO10). Chavez landed 36.4% - 13%.

EBU Championship

EBU Title Fight

Champion Max Schmeling, Germany, 21-5-1 (19) vs Sultan Ibragimov, Russia, 15-0-0 (14)

“The Black Uhlan” is down in the 5th, hurts his hand in the 8th, but finishes Ibragimov off in the 14th. Schmeling puts Ibragimov down in the 4th, 13th and 14th. Ibragimov just ran out of gas after the 8th. Schmeling successfully defends his title with a (TKO14) with :14 seconds left in the round. Cards: 126-118, 126-118, 126-119 all in favor of Schmeling. Punch stats: 32.1% - 16.2% Schmeling.

ICBA Championship

ICBA Title Fight

Champion Ike Ibeabuchi, Nigeria, 19-4-0 (16) vs #40 Larry Foley, Australia, 12-0-0 (7)

In an exciting and entertaining fight, Aussie challenger, Larry Foley, survives a horrible 2nd which was almost stopped, to win the ICBA Title over Ike Ibeabuchi. Ibeabuchi had Foley hurt and against the ropes but wasn't able to finish the fight. Foley wins a (MDec15). Cards: 144-144, 144-142, 145-141. Punch stats: 25.3% - 18.1% Foley.

USBA Championship

USBA Title Fight

Champion James Jeffries, USA, 17-4-0 (15) vs #25 Young Stribling, USA, 13-0-1 (8)

Jeffries keeps himself in reach of another world title shot by stopping Stribling by (TKO13). Stribling suffered damage to the right eye that the doctor felt was to severe to continue. Stribling was never down. Jeffries power punching just wore down his challenger as Stribling looked fatigued in the last few rounds. Cards: 117-112, 117-112, 116-113 all in favor of Jeffries at stoppage. Punch stats: 32.5% - 39% Stribling.

WBO Championship

WBO Title Fight

Champion Joe Louis, USA, 18-1-0 (17) vs #5 Earnie Shavers, USA, 13-3-0 (13)

Shavers aggressively attacks the champ in the 1st round and outscores Louis with some vicious blows. Louis responds by winning the 2nd and 3rd, putting Shavers on the canvas in the 3rd. Louis takes the next three rounds as Shavers struggles to land clean punches. Shavers is a hard puncher that has finished all his fights early, but you cannot hurt what you cant hit. Louis has Shavers down twice in the 7th and finishes the fight by (KO7) to retain the WBO Title. Shavers lack of defense was evident tonight as he just ran into a much better fighter who was willing to trade power punches with him. Cards: 60-53, 60-53, 59-54. Punch stats: 42.7% - 28.4% Louis.

IBF Championship - A New Champ is Crowned

IBF Title Fight

Champion Rocky Marciano, USA, 21-2-0 (20) vs #8 Muhammad Ali, USA, 19-3-0 (16)

Marciano/Ali II. The power of the champ versus the speed of the challenger. Ali comes out on his toes and effectively sticks and moves in the 1st. Marciano cuts off the ring and goes to the body to try to slow down Ali later in the fight. The champ lands a three-punch combo and hurts Ali. Marciano is warned for a low blow that seems to have upset and inspired Ali here in the 3rd as he outworks the champ 26-9. Ali lands a hard cross to begin the 4th but Marciano counters with a sharp, clean combo that drops Ali. Ali is able to finish the round but suffered some swelling around the left eye. Ali responds by using his footwork and quickness to take the next two rounds. Ali outboxes the champ, 14-0 in the 7th and 14-0 again in the 8th. Marciano finally shows up again and lands some hard blows to take the 9th. Marciano has been warned for three different fouls entering the 10th, the last being pushing down the neck at the end of the 9th. Marciano needs to be careful or he may receive a point reduction that could become costly. Ali definitely looks like the fresher fighter here in the 10th and is imposing his will on the champ. Ali is on his bike and is shooting the jab straight down the middle while avoiding any punishment from the champ. Marciano lands a crushing hook and outworks Ali, 15-6, in the 11th. Ali is cut in the 12th as Marciano goes to work, 25-10. The champ seems to be getting stronger, he may know that he needs to really put some work in these last rounds to win the fight. Ali’s punches don’t seem to have much steam in them but he is outworking and scoring points in the judges eyes, 17-4, here in the 13th. Marciano is down in the 14th at the 1:46 mark! The champ is up but is taking severe punishment and the fight is stopped at the 2:47 mark, Ali landing 32-4. The winner and new IBF Champion, Muhammad Ali by (TKO14). Cards: 123-123, 124-122 Ali, 124-122 Ali. Punch stats: 66.6% - 23.4% Ali. (I had Ali ahead by more than the judges as the punch accuracy shows)

WBA Championship

WBA Title Fight

Champion Chuck "No Doubt" Norton, USA, 24-0-0 (23) vs #9 Harry Wills, USA, 13-1-0 (12)

Norton/Wills II. Norton wants to prove that the controversial stoppage wouldn’t have affected the eventual outcome of the previous fight with Wills. Many people believed that Norton was on the way towards his first pro defeat. Norton lands a crushing hook but it looks like Wills steals the round in the final ten seconds with a late flurry. Both fighters seemed dazed during the 2nd round but Wills outscores the champ, 17-11. Wills seems to be landing the more accurate punches but Norton’s are definitely harder. 3rd round is pretty even, 9-8 Norton. Round 4, 16-11, Norton. Norton lands a tremendous shot under the ribcage of Wills and the challenger is down at the 2:57 mark. Wills survives but had a lot of punishment, 29-3, that round and had developed a mouse under the right eye. Wills looks like he recovered from the last round and keeps it close in the 6th, 9-8. 14-10, Norton in the 7th. The champ explodes in the 8th, 21-9, as Wills looks fatigued from all the hard punches that he has absorbed. The ninth is a repeat of the eighth as “No Doubt” continues to pound on the swollen right eye, 19-3. Wills is floored at the 2:41 mark of the 10th. This is trouble for Wills with so much time left in the round and facing a finisher like Norton. And Wills is unable to survive after getting floored for the 2nd time. Winner and still WBA Champion, Chuck Norton by (KO10). Cards: 88-82, 87-82, 86-84, all in favor of Norton. Punch stats: 38.9% - 37.4% Norton.

WBC Championship - Iron Scrapped

WBC Title Fight

Champion "Iron" Mike Tyson, USA, 18-1-1 (17) vs #18 Larry Holmes, USA, 18-2-0 (15)

Holmes’ best chance to dethrone the champ will be to use his jab and keep Tyson at a distance. Tyson does the most damage on the inside and likes to end fights early. Holmes is sticking to his game plan and is keeping busy using his jab for the first two rounds. Tyson is getting frustrated as Holmes is getting his punches off first. Tyson is unable to land more than one punch at a time and cannot get inside of Holmes’ straight left jab. Tyson wins his first round here in the 6th and hurts Holmes with a hard right hook. Holmes is not as active anymore and Tyson is getting inside the jab and defense of Holmes. Tyson seems to be coming on and wins his 2nd consecutive round. Holmes better be careful not to take too much punishment. Those hard blows will wear on you and slow you down. Holmes started quickly but has let Tyson back into this fight in these middle rounds. Holmes is having problems with his eyes as we enter the 13th. Both fighters look tired but the fight will go to the scorecards. 144-141, 143-142, 143-142, all in favor of the new WBC Heavyweight Champion of the World, Larry Holmes. (UD15). Punch stats: 35.6% - 50.4% Holmes.

Yes, he is the "15" rated fighter provided by the game. He has lost to Jack Dempsey (UD15), "No Doubt" Norton (KO14), probably Norton's toughest fight, and Rocky Marciano (KO10). All 3 were title fights.
