Cane improves to 3-0...

Union Cane, USA, 2-0-0 (2) vs. Marine Hansel, USA, 5-0-0 (4)

Both fighters have trained hard for this fight and come out without abandon. Crowd is up cheering the action. Cane presses the action here in the 2nd, 14-5. Third round slows but Cane takes the 4th, 20-6. Hansel seems to be a little fatigued early in this fight. Hansel has developed some swelling under his right eye here in the 5th. A clean uppercut lands flush on the temple and Hansel is down in the 7th. Hansel is able to continue, but only briefly, as the ref steps in at the 2:33 mark to save Hansel from any more punishment.

Winner: Cane
Result: (TKO7)
Cards: 59-55, 59-55, 59-56, all in favor of Cane.
Punch stats: 64.9% - 37.8% Cane

Mexican National Tournament - Quarterfinals

#1 Diego Corrales (KO7) #8 Saul Montana
#12 Martin Jacques (KO6) #13 Everardo Armenta Jr.

#6 David Cabrera (KO10) #3 Manuel Ramos

** #2 ranked and highly-touted prospect, Fernando Vargas gets knocked out in the fourth round. This leaves an open field for "Chico" Corrales to get through.

UK Invitees

The British Boxing Council has decided on this list of fighters to invite to the U.K. National Tournament.

Eddie Avoth
Scott Gammer
Herbie Hide
Mark Krence
Enzo Maccarinelli
Ian Millarvie
Freddie Mills
Charlie Penwill
Dick Richardson
Michael Sprott
Eddie Strawer
Scott Welch
Rocky Knight
Dan Voyles
Danny Williams
Lloyd Honeyghan

The BBC has sent out invitations to these 16 fighters and is in the process of finalizing the roster as confirmations are recorded. One major name left off the list is Joe Calzaghe and people are speculating as to why he wasn't invited. Word has leaked out that Calzaghe wants to fight for the U.K., but has suffered a slight injury to his hand. A report has surfaced that if Calzaghe determines that he can fight, he will replace one of the previously mentioned fighters.

Nice, it is good to see a boxer and his handlers accept the challenge of fighting good competition and doing it for their country. There is always the risk of ruining the perfect record, but the tournament can also serve to add some good, quality wins in a hurry. Also, the winner (and most likely the runner-up) will be invited to the World Cup of Boxing when all the National Tournaments are concluded. Good luck to Mr. Honeyghan and the UK Boxing Group.

Lloyd saw this opportunity to represent his country and add some good quality wins to his record. He told UK Boxing Group that his wish is to meet Calzaghe in the finals if he should decide to participate.

We'll take Bobby Czyz as Rampage's next fight. I think Rampage is ready to take on his first real major test.

BBC announces...

Scott Gammer has decided to not accept his invitation because he is already in preparation for his fight against Alexander Povetkin.

Doctor's results have concluded that Calzaghe's injury is a bruised knuckle and not a broken bone as was first thought. Calzaghe has been given medical clearance to box if he so chooses. He will experience some pain but the bruised knuckle shouldnt hinder him from participating in the tournament. The only worry is that the injury may worsen because of the short off-time between tournament bouts.
