Back to business after one month layoff...

Jeff Shelburg, USA, 4-1-0 (4) vs. Paul Ashley, USA, Pro Debut

Sam Houston Coliseum, Houston, TX, USA. Shelburg enters the ring in great shape and looks refreshed after taking May off. A lead right, followed by a combination puts big, Paul Ashley down here in the first round. Ashley barely manages to get to his feet but the referee determines that he is not all there and puts a halt to this fight at the 2:54 mark.

Winner: Shelburg
Result: (TKO1)
Cards: N/A
Punch stats: 6-48, 12.5% Ashley - 52-73, 71.2% Shelburg

MBF Championship

MBF Title Fight - Auditorio Benito Juarez, Los Mochis, SIN, Mexico

[Champion] Chris Arreola, Mexico, 14-6-1 (8) vs. Manuel Ramos, Mexico, 11-7-1 (7)

Arreola is making a mandatory title defense against the MBF’s current #1 ranked contender, Manuel Ramos. This will be Arreola’s first title defense. A tough opening round for the champ, as Arreola looks like he may have hurt his hand and he has a cut over the left eye. The champ comes back and scores a knockdown in the 2nd round with a hard left cross. Ramos gets up at the count of five and is able to continue. Arreola maintains the pressure he established in the 2nd , and overwhelms Ramos, 25-3, in the 3rd. Arreola has gotten back to his swarming style and his cut hasn’t opened up since the end of the 1st. Ramos takes the 4th and puts the champ down in the 5th, evening the 10-8 rounds. Ramos has some pretty bad swelling around the right eye. Ramos lands pretty much everything he throw in the 6th, 23-3, and reopens the cut above Arreola’s left eye. Arreola is sent backwards to the floor in the first minute of the 7th and barely gets up at the count of nine. The champ survives the round but has taken a tremendous beating, 28-1, and was lucky that the ref didn’t step in to stop the fight. Arreola still looks shaken and is caught on the ropes to start the 8th. Ramos is picking his shots and it looks like Arreola hasn’t recovered from the beating he took in the last round. The ref is looking at the champ and finally steps in to stop the fight at the 2:32 mark of the 8th round. The winner and new MBF Champion is Manuel Ramos.

Winner: Ramos
Result: (TKO8)
Cards: 68-62, 67-63, 67-63, all three cards in favor of Ramos
Punch stats: 316-661, 47.8% Ramos - 152-526, 28.9% Arreola

Napoles wins a tough fight...

Jose Napoles, Cuba, 1-0-0 (1) vs. Joel Casamayor, Cuba, 1-1-0 (1)

Havana Palacio de los Deportes, Havana, Cuba. This is a major test in both the early careers of these two fighters. Both fighters had great amateur careers and are seemingly headed in the same direction towards an eventual championship. The opening round is too close to call with both men staying on the defensive and trying to feel each other out. Napoles dominates the 2nd, 24-1, as Casamayor is unable to stop the barrage of punches. The 3rd, 12-6, is another good round for the undefeated, Napoles. Rounds 4-6 are very close as both men stay out of range and box from the outside. Casamayor has been warned 3 times for fouls in the 7th and 8th rounds as he seems to be getting tired. Napoles takes the 8th, 14-4. Casamayor has opened up more and seems to have changed the momentum of the fight in the 9th and 10th rounds. Napoles is starting to let this fight get away from him as Casamayor wins another round, 20-6, in the 11th. 16-6, for Casamayor in the 12th. We go to the 15th, and Casamayor has closed the gap in the last 4-5 rounds. Napoles did most of his work in the beginning of the fight but has looked confused here in the championship rounds. Casamayor has done all his work after looking completely fatigued in the 8th. A stunning uppercut sends Joel Casamayor down here with 2:40 left in the 15th. Casamayor looks exhausted and will have a long time to try to survive here in the last round. Casamayor is up at the count of 8, but visit’s the canvas again at the :47 second mark. Casamayor continues to get back up, but the ref finally stops the fight after the 4th knockdown here in the last round.

Winner: Napoles
Result: (TKO15)
Cards: 134-133 Napoles, 133-133, 135-131 Casamayor
Punch stats: 293-749, 39.1% Casamayor - 300-776, 38.7% Napoles

Rom,

Whew...your boy needed that last round! Casamayor's endurance bar was completely empty after the 9th and he was putting in some work. I am sure he is going to want a rematch down the road.

I kind of figured Arreola was in over his head on that fight .. he will need to make a dramatic turn around to keep his contract and the Villebillies patience with him is wearing thin.

Yeah, he is too eratic, not much defense. Though, I thought he was going to get past Ramos. I also had a feeling that Arreola is on the outs over at the Ville. He doesnt quite match up to the quality of fighter you have in Morales and Cotto. You do know that Margarito doesnt have representation, LOL!

Jimmy Ellis is 18-3-0 (9), is coming off that unbelievable loss to Apollo Creed! Ranked #109 in world.

Greg Page is 17-3-1 (14). Ranked #274 in world.

Most fighters are available, (Margarito?) this is a subliminal message, ha ha, its just the fact that pretty much every HW/CW is already active and anybody interested would have to be taken over at the point that they are at. The altered weight fighters are different because I introduce them when someone asks or when I decide I want to enter them into the universe. Let me know which guy you want. This means that you are getting rid of Arreola, correct?

Villebillie severs ties with Arreola, signs Nicaragua's, Alexis Arguello.

Villebillie Boxing Gym has decided to make a change and has released Mexico's, Chris Arreola from his contract. Villebillie had grown frustrated with Arreola's lack of willingness to improve his defense and to follow instructions during training and in fights. In a quick turnaround, Villebillie has signed Nicaragua's, Alexis Arguello. Arguello has decided to turn pro under Villebillie's guidance after compiling a stellar amateur record, 82-8-0 (65). Arguello will make his professional debut later this month against a fighter yet to be determined.

Calzaghe's next opponent...

No mandatory defense of BBC Title for Joe Calzaghe. Let me know if you want to schedule a voluntary title defense for this month or a non-title fight.
