The TBCB Community Off Topic Thread
Here it is, folks. A thread where all of us TBCB junkies can discuss things other than the game.
One of the things I'll be doing here is keeping you all up to date on the progress of my beloved Wests Tigers throughout the 2007 Australian National Rugby League season, but really, post whatever you feel like posting here as long as it doesn't relate to Title Bout. |

If anyone wants to offer solutions to getting rid of Detroit closer Todd Jones, I'm all ears. I have dubbed him 'The Gas Can'.
His specialty is coming on in the ninth, walking a few, getting a strikeout, a ground ball out, surrendering an RBI single and then finishing the 'save' with a fly ball to the warning track. I shudder every time the Tigers hand him the ball. ARRRRRGGGHHHH There, that's off my chest.

He won't be as heart attach inducing as Jones is even when he's 60.

Time for me to tell you about my Tigers. Some of you might remember when I posted about their incredible run to the NRL Championship in 2005 and their return from the heavens in '06. Things are looking good for the Tigers in 2007 as they are currently in 4th place (in a 16 team league) ten weeks into the season.
It didn't start too well, though. After four weeks they were winless, losing three games by two points or less before finally getting over the hump with a two point overtime win. Since then they have been undefeated and won their fifth consecutive game on the weekend to improve to 5-4. Here's a look at their week-by-week results: Week 1: @ Melbourne Storm L 16-18 Week 2: vs Manly Sea Eagles L 8-19 Week 3: @ Parramatta Eels L 20-22 (OT) Week 4: @ North Queensland Cowboys L 24-25 Week 5: vs Cronulla Sharks W 14-12 (OT) Week 6: bye Week 7: @ Canterbury Bulldogs W 34-18 Week 8: vs Melbourne Storm W 30-12 Week 9: vs St George-Illawarra Dragons W 27-8 Week 10: @ New Zealand Warriors W 30-26 Their worst performance of the season was the week two loss. It was played in terrible conditions (wind, rain) but they were really disappointing. The games in week 3 and 4 were there for the taking, especially the one against the Cowboys, which they were leading 18-6 with twenty minutes to play. The game against the Bulldogs was the first time when you could say "great performance" but the win the following week was even better. The Storm are the favourites to take the title this year and the Tigers simply out-enthused and outplayed them. They lost their star player Benji Marshall to a shoulder injury five minutes into the game but stepped up big time and were leading 22-0 at the break. Rugby League's showcase, the three game State of Origin series between New South Wales and Queensland kicks off tomorrow night. No Tigers players were selected to play for either team, which I'm a bit disappointed with seeing as our key playmaker Robbie Farah is leading the Player of the League voting. But I'm also happy because, unlike some of the other teams, we'll have our best players available during this period of the season. For more info on the Tigers, visit www.nrl.com.au or www.weststigers.com.au. You can also visit their wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wests_Tigers. Shouldn't this Off-Topic discussion be in a separate forum within the Title Bout community? Inside-the-Ropes doesn't seem like the right place for it.

I just found an old tape that has Bruno - Tyson on it as well as the Carbajal - Cob Castro fight from 96!
I think there are about 5 or 6 other fights on it too - yay!

I used to tape any fight that was aired (I even have a few of Art Card's fights!) Then I got married, moved twice and had for children. It's really cool when I turn these things up!

Now a "classic" fight is one either fought by Ali, Tyson, or something after 2005. |

It's a sad state of affairs when we are pining for the good old days and the Fighting Mailman!

Tigers won their sixth straight and second in a row on the road yesterday, defeating the Penrith Panthers 25-24. They were a bit flat to start with but scored two tries and a field goal in the last ten minutes of the first half to lead 13-6 at the break. They were then leading 25-12 with fifteen to play before the Panthers scored twice in the last eight minutes to make it a close finish.
The Tigers are now 6-4 and sitting in 3rd place in the standings. www.nrl.com.au |

I am beginning to lose hope as a Yankee fan. I went to two games this weekend and it doesn't seem like they will be turning it around this year.
We have had a good run so i'm not going to make a big deal. |

I've just got to find a new cranberry sauce recipe next year. I don't care who made it or who recommended it, horseradish sauce just doesn't belong on turkey.
And while we're on the subject, Natalie Cole really can't hold a candle to her father. |

BTW: I thought I would share this with you guys. I've just provisionally booked an LGV [Long Goods Vehicle]/Rigid course and I'm really pumped up about it. Lorry driving is something I've wanted to do since being knee high to a grasshopper, but never got round to getting my license, mainly due to the cost. However, I've decided to chase my dream and go for it. Just wondering if any of you guys have ever driven lorry's for a living. |
