Oy, my Tigers are really limping towards the finish line. They suffered their fourth loss in five weeks last Friday night, falling 26-22 to the resurgent Sydney Roosters in extra time. Don't let the closeness of the score fool you, though. The Tigers were very ordinary, making a number of simple mistakes during the game. It was a minor miracle that they managed to make it to extra time.

Despite the loss they are still in 8th place, but only becuase of tie-breakers, which is difference between points scored and points conceeded. They're at +6 while the 9th placed Rabbitohs are -12.

With three weeks left in the season, here's the standings:

1 Storm 18-3
2 Sea Eagles 17-4
3 Eels 12-9
4 Cowboys 12-9
5 Warriors 11-9-1
6 Bulldogs 11-10
7 Broncos 10-11
8 Tigers 10-11
9 Rabbitohs 10-11
10 Roosters 9-11-1
11 Titans 9-12
12 Sharks 8-13
13 Dragons 8-13
14 Raiders 8-13
15 Knights 8-13
16 Panthers 6-15

The Tigers play the Sharks, Rabbitohs and Knights to finish the season. They should win all of these games based on the standings but their form has been so poor lately that I wouldn't bet on it. The Sharks have had a difficult season, losing EIGHT games by four points or less but they ended a seven game losing streak with a 25-24 extra time victory over the Eels on Saturday night so the Tigers will have to play well to defeat them.

EDIT

Just to add, the Roosters were at the bottom of the standings five weeks ago. But after firing their coach and appointing assistant and former team captain Brad Fittler to the position, they've been undefeated, going 4-0-1 and giving themselves a chance to make the playoffs.

This past weekend was an absolutely fantastic one in Australia's National Rgby League, with six of the eight games being decided by six points or less. Amongst them were my Wests Tigers, who scored a heartstopping 29-28 win over the Cronulla Sharks. Trailing 18-4 at halftime, the Tigers scored four tries in the first twenty minutes of the second half to be leading 28-18 before the Sharks put on a rally of their own to tie the scores at 28 eight minutes from fulltime. With just under a minute remaining, Tigers playmaker Robbie Farah potted a wobbly field goal from twenty metres out to secure the win.

My friend Jason is a Sharks fan and he visited us and we all watched the game together. The Sharks have had a terribly difficult season, losing NINE games by four points or less.

Last night the Rabbitohs scored an upset 24-18 victory over the Sea Eagles to move into the top eight. Next Sunday afternoon the Tigers and Rabbits will clash in a vital matchup. With six teams fighting for the last two playoff spots, it figures to be an exciting final two weeks of the regular season.

1 Storm 19-3
2 Sea Eagles 17-5
3 Cowboys 13-9

4 Bulldogs 12-10
5 Eels 12-10
6 Warriors 11-10-1
7 Tigers 11-11
8 Rabbitohs 11-11

9 Broncos 10-12
10 Titans 10-12
11 Roosters 9-12-1
12 Raiders 9-13
13 Sharks 8-14
13 Dragons 8-14
15 Knights 8-14
16 Panthers 7-15

Rangers 30, Orioles 3

The more I read, the harder I laughed . . . .

Baltimore led 3-0

The Baltimore Ravens haven't given up 30 in a game since late '05

A pitcher got a save

Former Red Sox did well (I'm a Sox fan) David Murphy five hits, Kason Gabbard winning pitcher.

It was the first game of a doubleheader!
Rangers set ML record for runs in a doubleheader, before second game even started

Just totally absurd

Haven't watched that yet, although Tarantino has said it's the scariest movie he's ever seen. The guy that made it has made another movie called "Rogue". It's about a giant crocodile eating people up in the Northern Territory. He really is a great ambassador for our tourism industry.

Bah, I'll just ask your permission.

(I'd bring something good in trade)

anyone who has BBCF here is a brand new on-line league using div 1AA teams ... I've joined and have two teams. We are early in the season so still time to join. Yeah football season is upon us! Great fights this fall, football, and the Red Sox in the playoff (hopefully) ... Mike is a happy camper!

As an Orioles fan, it was hard to take. I watched the first part in a local establishment. When Cabrera was removed and Burres started his brief "I can hit every bat" stint, I got up to go home, and told the gang that it looked like the O's were toast and that, the way Burres was going, we'd lose 30 to 3. I'm sure none of them will remember that absurd prediction today.
Then we went and blew game 2. At least it wasn't to the Yankees!

LOL ... I liked the movie Primeval so I imagine I'll like that one too. I saw that the villian from Wolf Creek was in Rogue also.

My only problem with Wolf Creek was little to no nudity. I'm of the opinion that comedies and horror films without nudity is like football without tackling.

Dodged a bullet. Got home from work 5 minutes before some really bad storms tore through here. Don't usually see warning about 70 70 80 mph winds here in Chicago.

Just talked to someone at the Sox-Sox game, said the weather was pretty unruly and getting worse.

Checked weather maps and there is another wave at the Iowa border heading this way. It's been like this all week. When it isn't storming its hot and humid. Don't think your buddy will see any baseball tonight.

More of the same weather headed here again today. We got hit hard here yesterday. It isn't often that Chicago headlines the weather channels bad weather. Thankfully nothing really bad touched me personally but there are still areas without power.
