It's been several days, now since the storms ran through but city clean up crews have been out, even on a Sunday. There are still a number of folks who've been without power. My family wasn't effected too badly except for a niece who had a minor accident- she drove into a downed tree with minor damage to a bumper. I have to count my blessings with those storms. They covered a really wide path from southern Indiana through Kenosha, Wisconsin. Lucked out be missing the really nasty stuff.

Black Sabbath Books
Hi guys,
Thought I'd ask this question down here before going upstairs with it. I'm after a good book on 'Sabbath'. Anyone got any good ideas?

There's not really much promise for the future in Aussie tennis at the moment, although there's a couple of young American guys who look to have a ton of potential (Donald Young and that tall guy who beat Niemenen).

John Isner has a third round match against Roger Federer but he has a bright future as well. Sam Querrey is another guy to watch out for but i'm not too sold on him. |

I happened to mention that I didn't think you could qualify JD Drew as a bust yet because he has to take a year to adjust to the American League, first year of a big contract and playing in the Boston - New York stratosphere up in the Talk Sports area and the bold words set off a nice argument LOL.
The old putting words in my mouth routine, assuming I meant that they were the two best teams in MLB ... when obviously I meant the media pressure of playing there. I love it when that happens LOL |

My favorite is when you just state your casual fan opinion and 18 sabermetric mo's comeback at you with a 57 line rebuttal with stats dating all the way back to 1947. Conversation usually goes like this.
"I think so and so is having an off year" "Oh yeah well his opbswhipwangdodad stats this year tell a different story here is the breakdown ....." Makes me think they want a d*** punch (my new favorite saying from Californication) |

I recall that time you brought up A-Rod not being clutch and every sabermetrics fan boy brought out all these unheard of statistics to disprove the theory.
All you had to was look up his close/late satistics for that year to see how "clutch" he really was. This year is the only time he's shown some life in regards to being clutch as a Yankee. We all know he needs to get paid and it had nothing to do with him having a rift with Jeter and this a coming from a guy who bleeds pinstripes. |

I've put off mentioning what happened with my Tigers last weekend until now because it was so disappointing. Playing at home at Leichhardt Oval (one of rugby league's oldest active grounds) in front of a capacity crowd of 22,000 on Sunday afternoon the Tigers laid an absolute bomb, losing 37-12 to the Rabbitohs.
As I've mentioned in the past, the Wests Tigers are a joint venture, coming into being in 2000 when the Balmain Tigers and Wests Magpies merged to avoid extinction. Leichhardt Oval had been the Tigers home ground since the 1940s and since they merged with the Magpies the team still plays three or four games there each season. It's considered one of the best grounds to play at as far as atmosphere and watching the game is concerned, because of its intimacy. The game last weekend was the first time since the joint venture came into being that they've sold out a home game. Many Tigers legends were in attendance, with a parade of former greats around the field happening before the game. The crowd turned up and the legends turned out, making a great atmosphere. It was just an absolute shame that the Tigers players didn't turn up. To be fair, the South Sydney Rabbitohs have hit a purple patch at the right time of the season, defeating the 2nd placed Sea Eagles the week before. They were on fire once again against the Tigers and led 18-0 late in the first half. The Tigers had a number of chances to score but kept on turning the ball over at crucial moments, leading to frustration creeping in. It affected their defense and the Rabbits' bigger players more or less ran over the top of them. Anyway, the Tigers lost and are now 11-12. Tonight they play the last placed Newcastle Knights and have to win to have any chance of making the playoffs. They also need the Eels to defeat the Broncos on Sunday, so depending on what happens tonight it's going to be a tense weekend for me and all the other Tigers fans. |

It's now 9:49 here Saturday morning and I still can't believe it. I had trouble sleeping last night and didn't actually doze off until 2am. See, the delayed telecast of the game finished at 11.30pm but I already knew by then that they'd lost thanks to the real time score tracker on our sports news channel. We watched the replay of the Blake-Santoro US Open match but being the masochist I sometimes am I couldn't help but change the channel and watch bits and pieces of the Tigers match. Watched the last fifteen minutes and it made me sick to my stomach how close they were to putting the game away before it all turned to crap. We went to bed after the tennis but I couldn't sleep. My mouth was all full of saliva and I kept on having to swallow every ten seconds. I was as far from being tired as one could be and so as not to disturb my wife I went back into the loungeroom and put the TV on (with the volume muted, of course). Ended up going back to bed at 2am. I know that none of you seem to be interested in this (as no one has replied to my updates on the team), but I think any of you who have followed a sports team that has made this kind of heartbreaking, soul-destroying late season capitulation can sympathise with me and the thousands of other Wests Tigers fans who are in a numbed state of shock today. If you'd like a sample of our distress and anger click on the link below: http://z4.invisionfree.com/Wests_Tig...p?showforum=67 After winning the Championship in '05, the Tigers have missed the playoffs in '06 and '07, going 10-14 and 11-13 respectively. I remember before I met my wife I was deeply in love with another girl but never told her. This was back in high school and we were good firends. I went to a kind of reunion one night at a bar some years later and found out she was getting married and got pretty drunk. Not so much that I was out of control, but enough to have a hangover the next day. That next day at work felt like the longest of my life as I realised my dream of being with her was really, truly over. Why am I mentioning this? Well, the state I'm in right now is a comparable one. I'm sure it will subside sooner, but right now I feel like crap. Okay, got that off my chest. Now back to something that will bring me a lot more happiness, the HBF.

Coming soon from the keyboard of kenyan_cheena! Some of you might remember that I was writing an NFL dynasty using the website www.whatifsports.com. Due to the time it was taking to write up the posts aswell as accumulating stats, I finally decided to abandon it about a month ago. I am going to give it another go, except this time I'll be skipping the regular season and going straight to the playoffs. Starting from the 1980 season and hopefully moving through to current times, I'll seed the 12 best teams in the league according to their real-life win-loss records (regardless of conference or division) and run an alternate post season. Seeing as many teams don't play each other during the season, the tie-breakers I'll use for teams with the same records will simply be strength of victory and then if needed, a random number generator. The top four teams will receive a bye in the 1st round, where the matchups will be 5v12, 6v11, 7v10 and 8v9, all games being played at the higher seed's home ground. The second round or quarter finals will be hosted by seeds #1-#4 with the winners of the 1st round being re-seeded with the lowest seed playing the #1 seed, and so on. Semi-finals will be hosted by the highest seeded quarter final winners and the Superbowl will be played at the same venue that hosted it in reality. The dynasty will be posted in the Talk Sports forum to maximise it's audience. I'll be getting started on it within the next couple of days. I hope you all follow along. k_c |

I'm not much into ummm, subbuteo? No, Rugby, right? But I did read your updates with some interest. It feels awful when things go away for your favorite and you're left with all those months before you see them again. Hang in there!!

I'm not much for posting on the main board, so I'll ask here for anyone who plays the baseball game.
Why does it seem to be so damn hard to come up with rosters for this game that someone has offered $100 to see it done well?

Thanks, Thunder. There is one positive that might come out of the season. Tonight they're announcing the season MVP and one of the Tigers players Robbie Farah is a favourite to win it. That would be nice, I guess.

I'm not sure. I'm pretty sure that was a soccer game, though.
EDIT I just looked it up on wikipedia and had no idea that there were versions of it for other sports. Interesting.
