Yesterday I helped a friend of mine to move (sore muscles today). Someone in the neighbourhood played Journey really loud while we were moving. Since I like Journey and haven't listened to them in a while I put an old cd on when I got home yesterday afternoon. Even though I never even vivited the U.S (of course I will be visiting some time) I feel a bit american when I listen to them. Don't stop believing in particular makes me feel like I'm from "South Detroit" myself Strange isn't it?

Just a little plug for my MLB thread. I'm into the final week of the 1959 season and the AL pennant race between Cleveland and Detroit has been one for the ages.

Click on the link in my sig if you'd like to check it out...

You could probably win some awards for those pictures. They came out great! I just showed them to a girlfriend of mine who's a photographer and she thought the same thing.

Yes, I know! There's no mistaking that skyline for Newark, that's for sure . I'm sure Jersey has postcards available somewhere... maybe spots along the shore? Or a pic of someone's garden symbolizing the Garden State?

If I were in charge of "tourism" I'd have Tony Galento, Mickey Walker and Jersey Joe Walcott post cards with a nice Garden backdrop. If we can't get photos like kenyan_cheena's, we'll have to be creative

To sell New Jersey---we'd have to be very creative! The three best things about New Jersey: 1) Location, 2) LOCATION, 3) LOCATION!!!!

I've been able to spend some time in other states during my travels (New Orleans, Tampa, Phoenix) and when I tell people I'm from Jersey I sometimes get an, "Oh, I'm so sorry... I didn't know," type of response.

That's what Michael Caine's character says to the girl in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels when she tells him she's from New Jersey!

But when I get knocked to the ropes in these conversations, I'm always able to counterpunch my way out with one topic FOOD. Jersey has some great ethnic food. Just choose the nationality and you'll find what you're looking for. Good bakeries, too!

The fact that anyone would be critical of where someone is from is just rude, and that says as much about them as anything. I poke fun at Buffalo sometimes, but I have some friends from there, and they know I'm not serious. I have been to New York City, and New York State, but I have never been to New Jersey, and would like to go there some day.

Unfortunately I can't claim credit for any of those photos. They were on the website for one of our newspapers. They are incredible photos, though.

Olympic Gold, Baby!!!

Did anyone watch the 4X100m Freestyle tonight?
Michael & Co. brought home the gold after the Frenchies said they were going to smash us.

That was awsome, baby!!!.....

Go USA!!!

I think it's one of, if not, the greatest races I have ever seen in any sport I can think of. I think I was yelling louder than when the Longhorns won the Rose Bowl. I was livid!

The French team looking at the clock..........

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!!! !!

Can you tell I'm happy?

Ciao,
John

And there is still the 105m freestyle, 110m freestyle, 115m freestyle and 122m freestyle to look forward to. And then there are 3 other swimming disciplines also. Ah, the excitement of the women's 247m medley relay on short lanes is overwhelming

Hey, I can't help it if you guys can't swim in ice.

Besides, you have something to look forward to.....synchronized swimming!.....

It's really a pretty neat state (I just like to get Jersey Jim going!). Actually, it is mostly suburban and diverse. We have a small winter sport season and a very famous shore (many Canadians visit Cape May). Where I am, it's very close to New York City.

Most people judge the state from the perspective of their travel down the NJ Turnpike---which is a very ugly ride!

Our problem has been the way the media presents us. The Sopranos certainly didn't help our image. Both the Super Bowl champs "New York" Giants and the "New York" Jets play in New Jersey---not New York!!!

BTW---ask Jersey Jim why he moved away from the Newark area to Toms River---LOL!!!!

Yeah, New Jersey isn't THAT BAD. It's expensive, especially if you're a younger person just getting started. If you're buying your first car, first house or first "anything," it's hard without some help from family.

Why did I move from Newark to Toms River? Well, they had better snow cones down in Central & South Jersey back then. And nothing beat a good grape snow cone in the summertime.

Otherwise, I would probably be typing this from Newark as we speak

I don't know if you saw this or not, but in our coverage of the race we showed an angle from under the water, that showed the french swimmer look over to see where the american was, and didn't reach far enough to touch the wall, and it cost them the race.

If anyone's interested the latest chapter in the biggest current rivalry in world cricket got underway about a half hour ago with the 1st of four test matches between India and Australia starting in Bangalore, India.

It should be an intriguing series as Australia have lost three of their all-time greats to retirement in the last eighteen months in Glenn McGrath, Shane Warne and Adam Gilchrist. When the Indians came to Australia last November there were a number of controversial incidents and there's still a degree of animosity between the two teams which should make for a fascinating clash.

Australia is batting first and have already lost one wicket.

See Cricinfo.com - The Home of Cricket for more.
