The fams are getting restless, awaiting the results of the opening matches, hoping their favorites advanced. Good news! The Round One fights have been completed, and now, for simplicity’s sake, I wish I’d just gone with 128 fighters. But I wanted every level 1 fighter to have a chance. 61 fighters advanced to the coveted round of 64 (starting to sound like the NCAA hoops tournament) with victories, while there were 4 draws.
I have decided to use an odd playoff system to determine the remaining 3 slots. The 3 fighters that drew who scored the greatest differential in terms of punches landed have been given a bye. The remaining 5 that drew will fight, and I’ve added a sixth fighter, giving a lifeline to one losing fighter. These 6 will fight, and the winners will take on the byes for a slot into the tournament proper! Trying to be objective, as many posters identified their favorites, I am going with the fighter that lost a split decision where the officiating seemed to be most skewed. There were 7 split decision matches, and one result clearly stunk up the Mohegan, causing a temporary evacuation, made more difficult because Butterbean didn’t want to leave the buffet! I'll be copying and pasting and parsing in the results this evening, as I'm not sure how long a post is possible. Then it'll be the playoff bouts, and then the round of 64! Stay Tuned! |

![]() Don't tell me my favorite "1" rated fighter was on the wrong side of a SD. I guess if he gets knocked out of the tournament, at least let him stay around awhile and graze. |

Bouts 33 to 48 follow. I wish I could better import from wird, and keep my numbering schema!
1. Fred Williams vs Levi Forte KO 2. Ka-boom! Timber-r-r! 2. Jimmy Thunder vs Dave Bailey TKO 5 DQ. Dave first lost a point for low blows, then was disqualified in this lumberjack, rough-and-tumble donnybrook! Jimmy suffered 2 accidental head butts, and had one eye swelling shut, while Dave reeled from 1 head butt and from a gusher cut. The crowd went wild!!! 3. Randy Neumann vs Larry Davis UD. Randy landed 247 punches, over a 100 more than Davis, in this quite match, compared to the preceding one. 4. Jody Ballard vs Wayne Heath KO 8. Jody was slightly behind, with an eye swollen, and decided to go for broke in the 8th. Wayne went horizontal. 5. Melvin Foster vs Larry Frazier TKO 7 cuts. Melvin was getting hammered, until he used his head (literally), unleashing an accidental head butt. It was reopened twice and worsened, and Larry, who was ahead and outpunching Melvin 2 to 1, took the loss. Another win for the Mels! 6. Ray Impelletiere vs Jerry Barnes MD. Ray lost a point on a foul, was cut and had the bout halted momentarily, but still escaped with a win, courtesy of the refs. 7. Duke Sabedong vs Jim Stewart KO 8. These guys swapped knockdowns, but Duke ran out of gas as he went for broke in the 8th. 8. Tony Esperti vs Bob Hazelton KO 2. Bob only landed 14% of his swings, but nailed Tony flush with the big one! 9. Rocky Gannon vs Van Dorsey UD. Dorsey landed 60 more punches, and had a higher % landing, but Rocky, with his swollen eye, got the nod. Yo, Adrienne! 10. Irish Pat Duncan vs Ernie Cab TKO 3. A big 3rd round in an even fight won it for Pat, as they called a cab for Ernie. 11. Horst Herold vs Anthony Willis KO 1. The crowd blinked, and the fight was over. 12. Bud Gorman vs Billy Hunter SD. Billy outpunched Bud but the decision was surprisingly close. 13. Julius Francis vs Bill Squires TKO 6. Bill scored 3 KDs. 14. Marty Franklin vs Troy Weida UD. Marty landed 3 punches for every 2 of Troy, and Troy’s face showed the results of that math. 15. Allen Smith vs Tunney Hunsaker UD. This was much closer than the scoring indicated. 16. Lorenzo Boys vs King Solomon UD. The King landed more frequently, and Lorenzo committed 2 fouls. Now how the heck did those numbers show up !

And the last set, with or without numbers:
1. Sailor Jack Carroll vs Gunnar Nilsson UD. Trim the sails, poop the deck! Sailor Jack landed almost twice as many blows, winning despite committing 4 fouls. 2. Stamford Harris vs Gary Winmom KO 6. The fight was pretty even, and Win Mon had a KD before Stammy slammed him. 3. Jorge Brescia vs Louis Monaco MD. Jorge had a hard time bouncing back from a cut caused by an accidental head butt. 4. Cliff Purnell vs Tony Doyle D. Doyle landed more punches, 224 to 180, but suffered as his cut from an unintentional head butt resulted in 3 temporary halts. 5. Cliff Couser vs Derrick Banks D. Both scored frequently in a tight match! 6. Oscar Pharo vs Abe Brown UD. Osacr landed over a 100 times more than Abe. 7. Jem Roche vs Jack Roper TKO 8. Jack knocked Jem down twice, fouled him once, losing a point, but had a substantial lead. 8. Bobby Crabtree vs Mike Rodgers KO 4. Mike had a KD preceding his KO. 9. Jeremy Bates vs Lorenzo Poole KO 6. He landed almost 2 for every 1 of Lorenzo. 10. Al Palzer vs Manfred Schesinger KO 7. Al hammered Manfred, cutting him twice and landing 3 times the number of punches before putting him to sleep. 11. Al Benedict vs Walter Hafer TKO 8. Al was losing, and each landed 2 KDs, but Al’s huge round 8 caused the stoppage. 12. Cordell Jones vs Eddie Brooks UD. Eddie had a KD en route to an easy win over Cordell. 13. Jack Munroe vs Lamar Clark TKO 5. Jack landed twice as many punches, and Lamar’s eye was swelling badly. 14. George Linberger vs Lou Bailey KO 8. George knocked sweet Lou down twice, then took pity at the end. 15. Soldier Kearns vs Dan Daily D. Daily’s eye was swollen, but he landed many more punches. 16. Danny Wofford vs Art Tucker SD. Each scored a knockdown, and Art lost a point for a foul, and Danny landed 100 more punches. But Art got the decision, as the judges may have been eying the buffet! The joint really smelled after this one, and Danny was so upset he didn’t go to the buffet !17. Johnny Featherman vs Eddie Gregg KO 6. In this slugfest, Johnny scored 2 KDs, but Gregg made Johnny kiss the canvas 5 times! These were bouts 49-65, not 1-17. More follows: |

Here’s the schedule for the playoff to get the field down to 64:
Byes: Tony Doyle, Derrick Banks, Dan Daily Pedro Agosto vs Cliff Purnell, with winner to go against Doyle. Sedrick Fields vs Cliff Couser, with winner to go against Banks. And Soldier Kearns vs the lifeline thrown to the tomato can that got the worst decision, (drum roll, please) Danny Wofford, with the winner to take on Daily! So Danny, who deserved a win, gets a second chance. Then we’re at 64 fighters, and only a win can advance fighter, as draws will be re-fought until there is a winner. So Danny gets his one and only one deserved shot! May the best TC win!!! |

My flak jacket is on, gentlemen, so fire away! I hope there's still some interest, and wish i better knew how to format. Guess that's why i'm in the rookie league, which beats being a batboy!

I'm torn between rooting for Wofford or Turnbow.
Did Manfred Ackers makeyour tourney? He was another prototypical working man's stiff. Will (Thunder) always gets a chuckle out of the line 'A veteran of 43 professional bouts' in lieu of calling out a guy's record at some of the cards we've attended. |

Ackers didn't make my list. i'm still new at this, and have mainly found US heavyweights, and don't want to encroach on Bear's domain, as he is more disciplined than me, but I do have some logic in how I pursue tomato cans as well! This experience may help me over the hump of creating actual fighters, as I'm getting a better sense from some of yours, and his, and Rocco's and others. I like Will's response, which reminds me of one we used to get a few decades ago about Dave Duncan, a catcher the Orioles acquired. The announcers went from "the guy who averaged 18 homers a year the last 3 years" to, over a few year period, "the guy who averaged 13 homers a year over the past 6 years". Needless to say, Dave hit only about 10 for us over the 3-4 year period! |

Great to see Wofford getting a 2nd shot.
As for good TC's, here's a guy I hope that someone will rate... Jukebox Timebomb Global ID 176131 sex - male division - heavyweight nationality - Zimbabwe won 2 (KO 2) + lost 3 (KO 2) + drawn 0 = 5 I think he would make a fine addition to anyone's database and who can't use another Zimbabwian boxer to flesh out a universe. He officially fought 5 times between 1985 and 1991 against a who's who of Zimbabwe Heavyweight boxing: Sipho Moyo Black Tiger Bonyongo Destroyer (another crowd-pleaser) Proud Kilimanjaro Elisha Kanyeala Last edited by Romultiltus; 11-28-2007 at 12:05 AM. |

Maybe George Logan will go all the way! Do you think Tony could possibly achieve the status of Danny Wofford? I may just keep this universe alive, and Tony could climb to the top!

Mike,
If you copy and paste your posts into notepad and then copy them from notepad into the thread you should have no problems with the formating. I had some formating trouble when I first started my uni but once I was told to use notepad it was fine.
