Don't jump the gun my friend. Despite me having four picks during the draft I may not be any better than I was, and we both know how good that was.

You got a solid man in Ponce-deLeon in the 2nd round. I almost selected him. You'll be doing better, though both of us will have to watch our guys mature.

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 1
Lem Franklin (2-1 2) vs. Tami Mauriello (5-1 3) – Lem had stopped challenger Amos Johnson, and probably shouldn’t have advanced to this round
, but its too late now, and his main fan Bear was happy to see him fighting. Tami had stopped Patsy Perroni in the 10th, staving off Patsy’s challenge bid, to Ric915's delight!Tami took the opening rounds, 12-4 & 15-6, landing a number of power punches. He was particularly effective with combinations and uppercuts in the 2nd. Lem landed a huge uppercut in the 3rd, Tami answering with a laser cross. Franklin landed frequently in the last minute to take his first round, 12-7. Tami led early in the 4th, staggering Lem with a sonic hook. Lem came back with a savage hook of his own, and a jarring left, and seized the lead. They traded punches, but Franklin was a bit more effective, winning the round on my card, 18-14. Franklin decimated a suddenly ineffective Mauriello in the 5th, connecting on a searing cross and two wicked uppercuts, dominating him, 19-2 . When he pulverized an exhausted Tami, 19-4, in the 6th, banging home crosses and hooks, the fight looked all but over. Lem had dazed Tami with an uppercut, laser left and cranium-crusher, and he was well in control !Fighting with a measured fury, Franklin built up a 13-4 lead in the 7th, frustrating Tami with rapier-like jabs. A desperate Mauriello connected on an uppercut, and battled back with hooks, making the round respectable, 15-12 Needing a miracle, Tami started the 8th with a savage combination. He was throwing bombs, and missing a lot, but a hook and booming right got through. Franklin tried to counter, but a giant uppercut sent him flying into the ropes at round’s end , a loser by a 17-7 score! Tami poured it on in his bid for a KO in the 9th! Landing a sonic straight right to wobble Franklin’s legs, he got the added benefit of opening a gash outside Lem’s left eyebrow, and the fight was briefly halted. Tami rocked Franklin with another straight right, and only a few counters kept Franklin alive, as he lost another round, 13-6!I had Franklin ahead by a round, and he landed a sweet straight right early in the 10th. Mauriello continued his comeback with a wicked combination, and outpointed his opponent, 10-4, making it a draw on my card. Lem had landed far more punches, 255-210, at a much higher percentage, and had dominated rounds 3 through 7. The judges scored it 96-95 Mauriello, 95-95 & 96-94 Franklin, a draw! They’d fight again! Tami had come from way behind to knot the bout, when it seemed he was all but out on his feet! |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 1 Part 2
Franklin lashed out with an uppercut early in the rematch, but Tami shook it off and launched a wicked combination, dropping Lem to the canvas
! Lem was up at the count of 4, but covering up as Mauriello roared in for the kill. Tami kept firing and missing, and Franklin escaped further damage, only losing 12-4!Franklin was landing more punches in the 2nd, but Tami rocked him with an uppercut, and then with a sweet hook. Lem rallied but Mauriello seemed to land enough to take the round, 12-10. Shaking off the effects of the KD, Lem was accurate with his punches in the 3rd, amassing a 10-3 lead through the first 2 minutes! Mauriell saw an opening, and the combination he landed could be heard in the rafters, and Franklin was down for the second time ! The crowd sat stunned as the count reached 10, Mauriello winning by a KO at 2:30 of the 3rd! Franklin had landed 51% of his attempts, just a bit less than in the first fight, while Tami was landing at a paltry 18%, but he got the big ones home, and ended Franklin’s dreams. Bear was chagrined , but Ric915 was ecstatic !Still, no one advances from this fight. |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 2
Lou (Super) Nova (2-1 2) vs. Obed Sullivan (2-1 1) – Lou had been super in KOing Michael Grant in the 4th round. Sullivan had come in undertrained, figuring this’d be an easy match. He’d wanted to challenge Amos Lincoln, but Nova had won two challenge matches to earn this fight.
After the obligatory feeling out minute, Lou pasted Sully with a monster hook, and Sullivan was wobbly . He recovered, throwing a series of crosses, then rocked Lou with a huge hook of his own to take the round, 14-7. Round 2 was slow until Obed caught Nova with a searing left hook to the body. Lou covered up, and was successful in avoiding further damage, but he still lost the round, 9-6.Sully jumped out to a lead in the 3rd, landing uppercut after uppercut. In the last minute, Nova rallied with a string of crosses. One of them had some Chinese mustard on it, and hurt Obed. The round ended dead even, 10-10, as Nova seemed to finally be coming to life! They traded punches in an active first minute of the 4th, Nova landing a nice uppercut to slightly get the better of the exchanges. He fired another uppercut, along with some jabs and combinations, building up a nice lead. Hammering Sullivan with another uppercut, Lou fired a super cross, sending Obed to the canvas ! He was up at the count of 3, but unable to withstand Nova’s onslaught, as Lou poured punch after punch home, walking away with a 29-5 round, a round in which the fight came close to being stopped!Obed got a hard uppercut home early in the 5th, but Nova came back with a sizzling cranium-crusher, and then a laser left. Sully was stumbling around, and Lou was relentless. The ref jumped in and stopped the fight awarding Nova, who had been ahead 18-6, a TKO at 2:32 of the 5th! Sullivan and his corner were angry at the stoppage, believing he could have continued , but Nova had punished him severely the previous round as well. Lou Nova was truly super and will advance! |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 3
Tommy Jackson (2-1-2) vs. Hubert Hilton (3-2-1 1) – Hurricane came in with a little paunch, not the best idea when trying to keep his challenge alive
. Hubie landed the big blow in a slow first, a hard hook, and pulled the round out, 9-6, as Jackson’s best shot was a low blow, which earned him a warning. Tommy was a very active hurricane in the 2nd, landing many hooks and an uppercut that jolted Hilton. He won easily, 14-6.After a series of clinches early in the 3rd, Hilton got mad and was warned for holding and hitting. He stepped back and went on a tear, hitting and hitting ! He connected with a hard left and a thunderous hook, and Tommy was covering up. Hilton couldn’t put him away, but he pitched a 19-0 shutout, taking the wind out of Tommy’s sails (and lungs).Jackson rebounded in the 4th, fighting a good defensive round for two minutes. Hilton bided his time, then staggered Tommy with a straight right and a blistering uppercut! His rally gave him the round, 12-6. Jackson was clinching as the 5th commenced. He got in a blatant shot or two to the kidneys, and was issued a warning. Then the referee jumped in and disqualified him for such a blatant foul ! Hilton won via a DQ in the 5th, turning away the challenger. |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 4
Bob Foster (3-1 1) vs. Mike Evans (5-1 3) – Foster had lost the first go-around, but had injured his hand
and was generally ineffective after that. Infinity was there to root his man on, and he knew the fight wouldn’t end the same way! Evans looked tired coming into the ring, and Foster was lean and mean! The first minute was slow, then Foster caught Mike with a ferocious cross . He wasn’t able to follow up, but Evans wasn’t landing, either. As the round was ending, Mighty Mike uncorked a massive uppercut that landed just before (or was that after?) the bell ! Foster landed on his back, then slowly began to rise to his feet. He got to 1 knee at the count of 7, then toppled over as he tried to stand! Mike Evans won by a KO at 3:00 of the opening round! Infinity was crushed, and the replays showed the punch landed just as the bell was sounding. What a difference a second, or make that 10 seconds, was! |

Both your unis make interesting reads! I'll catch up on them tonight or tomorrow evening. I think people have just been real busy this last month or so and haven't caught up on the unis. I know that's been the case with me.
I wanted Foster to go further, but it wasn't meant to be. |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 5
Tyrell Biggs vs. Andrew Golota – Biggs had shocked Eliecer Castillo. Could he continue against the power of Geets Golota
? Golota’s left eye was swelling almost from the start, possibly from a head butt. Angry, he landed a textbook uppercut, then one almost as good, and finally a deadly cross, and almost stopped Biggs in a 17-4 1st!Tyrell used his jab and cross effectively to pile up points in the 2nd, but Golota rallied in the second minute with a huge uppercut and a sizzling left. Biggs reasserted himself in the last minute, his jabs and crosses landing non-stop, and he almost floored Golota with a searing straight right . He won handily, 17-8, and Golota’s eye was worse! It was Andrew’s turn in the 3rd. After a quiet first minute, he connected on a solid cross, then was warned for head butting. He landed a huge cross, and now Biggs was woozy . Tyrell displayed good defensive skills in the last minute, but was the loser big-time, 16-2.Bong! Biggs opened the 4th with a solid left hook to the body. He crashed a cross home, and built a good lead with his jabs and crosses. Golota’s swelling was worse as a result of the pinpoint accuracy of his jabs and crosses, and only a big Golota uppercut made it respectable, 18-9! I had it even so far in this back-and-forth fight! Golota came out for the 5th with his hands low, and Biggs jumped in to take advantage. Alas for him, he ran into a Golota cross that had the power of a freight train, and crashed to the canvas ! He was up at the count of 5, and covering up, but a Golota hook sent him staggering. Biggs avoided further punishment, as Golota hurled bomb after bomb, and landed a few counters to take the round 13-4.If the fight pattern held true, Biggs would win the 6th going away. He opened cautiously, using his trademark crosses and jabs, taking advantage of Golota’s low hands. Fighting under control, he stunned Golota with a monster cross, but then was cut under his left eye . Geets was landing some shots, but Biggs was more active, and Golota’s eye was now a mess. Tyrell poured it on, connecting 54 times all told, pulling away for a 20-7 round. Both men looked exhausted, so now would Golota win the 7th to keep in line with the previous rounds?Golota landed the big blow in a slow first minute in the 7th, a solid right, and Biggs’ cut was reopened and worse ! The fight was halted for a moment, then Golota tried going after Biggs. He landed a sweet cross and took a 12-6 verdict.Golota opened the 8th with another big cross, but Biggs came back with some counters, then connected on a booming hook and daunting straight right. Golota’s eye was worse and he was covering up to protect it ! Tyrell went into overdrive, firing off a wicked combination along with his usual crosses & jabs. Golota was cut on the forehead, and seemed almost gone, but the round ended before Biggs could finish him off, 25-6!Golota’s face looked like he’d been through a meat grinder as he stood for the 9th . Battered as he was, he was game and threw a wild overhand right that caught Biggs flush, and Tyrell was down ! He was up at the count of 6, but in trouble with just over two minutes left in the round! Golota stepped in and rattled off a savage combination, sending Biggs down again ! This time, he was able to get up only at the count of 8. A suddenly-rejuvenated Golota connected on an uppercut that sent Biggs backwards, then almost dropped him with another bruising combination. Biggs looked ready to go, and Golota smashed home a cross, and that was all she wrote. The ref could have counted to 100. Golota won via a KO at 2:15 of the 9th!The crowd cheered both men after this all-out war. Biggs had shown surprising power, and the fight had been almost even before the fateful 9th! Tyrell hand landed more, 250-191, and at a high clip, but that one wild punch had done him in. Golota now had won a war after losing one earlier to Joe Goddard. He was fast becoming a crowd-favorite. Another challenger bites the dust! |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 6
Leroy Jones vs. Karl Mildenberger – Both of these men were light-hitters, and fought carefully, so no one expected the charged atmosphere of the previous fight, and no one was right
! It was a chess match, with much ring movement, some nifty slips and blocks, a bit of clinching, everything but offense !Karl landed a sizzling straight right partway through the 1st , and this proved to be the best punch of the night! Connecting on hooks, he took the round decisively, 12-6. The burly Jones fired off jabs and marshmallow-hard combinations to halve the 2nd, 8-8, as Karl was jabbing effectively.Jonesey missed a lot in the 3rd, and might have hurt his hand on a jab that couldn’t crack an egg . He may have won the round, 8-6, but Karl returned the favor with an 8-6 4th, uppercuts his main weapon, if weapon they could be called! The 5th was riveting , 8-8, Leroy jabbing and trying to solve the southpaw antics of Mildenberger! Only one of the rounds so far had a true winner! Leroy may have won the 6th, 8-6, on the strength of his nifty combinations. He clinched a lot in the 7th, connecting on enough jabs to carve out a 9-6 round. The crowd was going wild, well, maybe not, as Jones alternated jabs and combinations in a brutal 9-4 8th! Karl was cut over his right eye, causing a temporary halt, during which the ushers tried to wake up the fans! Mildenberger rode a low blow warning to a 6-2 9th, as Jones was just trying to avoid punishment. It might have been 2 rounds each at this point. That’s how I had it, 88-88! ![]() ![]() Mildenberger must have felt he was in the lead (not sure why) because he covered up for the 10th. Jones landed a jab, and suddenly Karl’s cut was reopened, a gash this time ! The ref took one look, suspended the match, and the ring doctor called the fight, Leroy Jones winning by a TKO on cuts at 1:43 of the 10th! He should have called the fight 9 rounds earlier, for lack of offense .Jones is the 2nd challenger so far to advance. Mildenberger demanded a rematch, and the two remaining fans headed for the exit! ![]() |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 7
Luis Firpo (9-5 7) (level 4) vs. Hein Ten-Hoff (3-1) – Firpo had avenged his loss to Tony Galento with a dramatic 1st round KO, then taken Piero Tomasoni out in 9, Could he continue his magic against Ten-Hoff, who came in looking a little burned out? Bear thought he could! ![]() Hein opened well, a huge cross stunning Luis and possibly waking him up! Firpo rammed home a winging hook, then, at round’s end, a giant cross, and he took the opener, 11-6. The Wild Bull of the Pampas leaped across the ring and plastered Hein with a massive uppercut to start the 2nd . He bored in, throwing crosses, hooks and even jabs, and Hein was defenseless. A wicked combination ended the round, 20-5, and it seemed as if ten-Hoff was ready to drop!Hein regrouped in his corner, and stayed on the outside in the 3rd, moving laterally to avoid Luis’ bombs. He landed several counters, and took advantage of Firpo’s over-eagerness to take the round, 6-0. Firpo opened the 4th with a riveting cross, and Hein was hurt. Fighting on instinct, he clinched when he had to, danced when he could, avoiding further damage. Midway through the round, Hein saw an opening, and fired a deadly shot to the midriff, and Luis dropped ! Back up at the count of 8, he was hurt, and tried to cover up. Hein attacked methodically, using his hooks to good advantage, and now Firpo’s left eye was swelling badly. Hein won the round handily, 15-6, and Firpo’s corner was going to have its hands full with the swelling! The 5th round was quiet, Firpo still trying to shake the cobwebs out. Hein was warned for a low blow, and Luis was obviously in pain. Tenn-Hoff took the round, 9-3, and Firpo’s eye was worse, not to mention his midsection !Hein was the aggressor as the 6th opened, and he belted Luis with an uppercut. Firpo could only partially see out of his eye, and Ten-Hoff launched crosses and jabs, intensifying the swelling! Another giant uppercut rocked Firpo, and Hein won going away, 19-6. After the swelling, Hein had dominated. Luis looked like Thunder’s old avatar coming out for the 7th . He was out of steam, but not out of fight, and he walloped Hein with a winging right, then with a laser left and a serious straight right ! Hein was in trouble, wobbling a bit, but he was savvy enough to connect on a furious double hook, and then to jab away to halve the round, 13-13!Firpo won an ugly 8th, 6-4, a big uppercut his major exclamation point! The fight was close, and he came out snorting in the 9th, landing one of his signature hooks. Hein’s knees buckled , but he grabbed the ropes and stayed upright! Hein caught Luis coming in with a savage uppercut, but was too tired to follow up. The round ended 12-9, possible advantage to Ten-Hoff, as both men were dragging!Hein came out covering up for the 10th, infuriating Firpo, who wanted to slug it out. Luis was having a tough time trying to get through, and Hein was content to land some light counterpunches, that didn’t hurt but did score points. Luis couldn’t land any of his bombs, and Hein escaped with the round, 11-2. The judges scored the bout 97-93 Ten-Hoff, 95-94 (Arthur Mercante) for Firpo, and 97-93 for, the winner by a split decision,…Hein Ten-Hoff! Hein’s jabs and crosses had offset Firpo’s bombs, and Luis’ improbable run was over. He hugged Hein and waved to the crowd, who applauded as he made his way to the exit! This hasn’t been the round for the challengers, with only 2 advancing so far! |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 3 Fight 8
Rex Layne (3-1 3) vs. Johnny Risko (2-1) - Rex had shocked the crowd by besting Champion Mike Weaver in a non-title bout, getting a 6th round TKO. Could he continue his advance against the Cleveland Rubber Man , cheered on by the Mad Bomber?Johnny was dazzling in the first two rounds, winning them 14-6 & 12-6. He boxed beautifully, landing jabs, hooks and crosses, causing Rex to clinch and miss. It was a superb start! ![]() Layne came back, on the strength of two blistering combinations, to take the 3rd, 15-11. His hooks were finding the range, and Johnny just didn’t have the firepower to match blows. Rex took the 4th, 12-8, opening with a straight right that almost floored the Rubber Man ! Still, it took a late flurry before Rex could claim the round, as he was being reached.Rex grabbed Johnny in the 5th and belted him, but was issued a warning. That slowed him down for most of the round, but he landed a string of hooks and a jarring straight right to triumph, 13-4. Risko came back in the 6th, winning handily, 12-4, as he was too quick for Rex and kept connecting on his hooks. I had the fight 57-57 at this point! Rex hammered home a sweet uppercut in the 7th, but Johnny rallied with some nice punches. Rex was missing badly, but, as the round ended, caught Johnny with two awesome hooks , good enough to pull out the round, 15-8! Rex landed a sweet combination early in the 8th, but otherwise Risko was making him miss. Frustrated ![]() , Layne executed a head butt worthy of Bobo Brazil, and the referee disqualified him on the spot! Johnny Risko, who had been leading 67-66 on 2 of the cards, turned back his challenger, winning by a DQ in the 8th!Only 2 challengers, Lou Nova and Leroy Jones, advance from this round. All 4 Round 4 matches had requested a challenge, but that won’t be happening. I’ll figure out who else meets in the next challenge round! |

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 4
There will only be two challenge matches in this round, Lou Nova versus Tami Mauriello and Leroy Jones challenging Joe Goddard
. No, on second thought, Tony Galento is challenging Mike Weaver to a non-title bout, hoping to avenge his 7th round KO!And soon, I promise, the Super Sixes tournament will begin. If PWillisTheMan is reading this, I’m asking for your version of the George Chaplin rating, since I think you said he was at level 6 . |

If you try exporting to a tbdx file, that should work. I'm not an expert here, but would like to give George another shot (I think I had him as a 6 in the board game).

Fabulous 5s Challenge Matches Round 4 Fight 1
Back in action again!
![]() Lou (Super) Nova (3-1 3) vs. Tami Mauriello (6-1-1 4) – Lou had done well to keep his challenge alive with three straight wins. Tami just keeps turning back challenger after challenger with his firepower . Lou came in a bit portly. Tami always comes in that way. Would Nova’s conditioning be a factor?![]() Lou was active in pitching a 9-0 shutout in the 1st. He was busy landing combinations in the 2nd, but Tami may have salvaged the round, 8-7, on the strength of a monster hook! Tami landed a major left hook to the body early in the 3rd, but lou answered with some crosses. Then Tami dazed him with a lightning left. Landing a wicked combination and a series of hooks, Mauriello ruled, 17-4.Tami landed the only real punch in the opening minute of the 4th, a sharp cross. Firing uppercuts and combinations, he dominated the second minute, hurting Nova with 2 savage uppercuts! Tami rocked him with a straight right, then Lou rallied slightly with a big hook, but Mauriello ruled, 25-7, and Nova was in a bad way after eating all those uppercuts and combos! ![]() Nova came back in the 5th, but a solid combination at the bell may have given Tami the nod, 11-10. Lou finally connected on some heavy leather in the 6th, landing a good hook and an uppercut that staggered the Bronx Barkeep! Lou won the round, 9-6, and landed a solid uppercut and combination to jump ahead in the 7th. His lack of conditioning was evident, as he was too tired to follow up, and Tami stormed back to take it, 13-8! The 8th was the beginning of the end. Tami staggered Lou with a laser right, but the round was even at the 2 minute mark. Then Mauriello unloaded, scoring 2 count and 3 count knockdowns in the last minute , winning easily, 19-6. In the 9th, he floored Nova with a signature uppercut, and this time Lou was down until the 8 count. Tami blasted the beleaguered Nova with uppercut after uppercut, then finished him with a cross at 2:03 of the 9th. Another challenger bit the dust, or, more appropriately, tasted Tami’s fist! Mauriello continues to impress!![]() |
