Thanks for your efforts before your semester is complete! I am assuming it'll take a little more thought to create Jukebox, as the Bonyongo Kid's stoppage percentage is 100%! Once they get past the casino's security, there are at least 64 guys anxious to fight them, and in particular the Destroyer! Since the demand for their presence is so high, maybe we can do a lottery or vote, and the two additions can meet the winners of the lottery or vote on the championship undercard? What say you all?

The path to the championship undercard must run through Danny Wofford !!!

1st Half of Round 2 Results Are IN!

The first half of round 2 has been completed, and here are the results:
1. Art Jimmerson vs. Joe Cox Cox MD
2. Charley Polite vs. Joseph Smith Smith UD
3. Wild Bill Hardney vs. Art Card Deaw, then Hardney TKO 5
4. Brian Nix vs. Lou Strydom Strydom UD
5. Unknown Winston vs. Freddy Hubert Winston TKO 6 cuts
6. George Logan vs. Mario Cawley Cawley SD
7. Tony Musto vs. Garing Lane Draw, then Lane TKO 8
8. Charley Powell vs. Gunnar Barlund Powell MD
9. Johnny Erjavec vs. Sam O'Leary Deaw, then Erjavec SD
10. Rudi Lubbers vs. Charlie Green Lubbers UD
11. Derek Amos vs. Victor McLaglen Amos TKO 6 cuts
12. Mel Turnbow vs. Eric (Butterbean) Esch Turnbow TKO 4 cuts
13. Joe Lannon vs. Robbie Robinson Robinson SD
14. Mel Harris vs. Wayne Llewelyn Llewelyn KO 3
15. Terrence Lewis vs. Chico Gardner Lewis UD
16. Richard Dunn vs. Levi Forte Forte UD

Fight summaries:

1. Jimmerson started great with a 2 count KD in R1 & a dominating round. He then faded, and Cox sealed the win with a 4 count KD in Round 8.

2. In a dull, low-scoring contest, Smith got the nod, though i had it a draw. Polite was way too polite!

3. Wild Bill and Card first fought a low-scoring draw. In the rematch, Wild Bill was a wild man and decked Art 3 times in the 5th, for 8, 8 & 2 counts, when the ref kindly stopped it!

4. Lou decked Nix for an 8 count in Round 3, and Brian returned the favor in a desperate Round 8, but it wasn't quite enough.

5. Winston dominated, pitching a shutout! He cut Hubert over the right eyebrow in Round 5, then decked him for a 6 count before reopening the cut. The doc wisely stopped it! Winston is not living up to his name, as people are starting to take notice!

6. Cawley led throughout, then let up & was knocked down for a 2 count in round 7, as Logan scored almost half his point total for the fight. Cawley danced in round 8, and the fight wasn't as close as the score indicated!

7. Musto & Lane traded blows and rounds in the first fight, for a draw. Garing was slightly ahead in the 2nd match. He cut Musto in round 6, and the bout was stopped for a moment. The cut was reopened & checked in rounds 7 & 8 (twice in 8). 2 fine contests!

8. Charlie landed the harder punches, with 3 of them being 5 pointers, and Gunnar was on the ropes in round 7. Gunnar led through 4, then rallied in the 8th, but it wasn't enough!

9. The two battled to a spirited draw initially (I had O'Leary, 77-76, but am admittedly prejudiced). I had O'Leary winning the rematch, as he dominated rounds 7 & 8, but 2 of the judges felt Erjavec won. In any event, there were 2 good contests.

10. Green landed the harder blows, but fewer of them, and fouled 4 times. Lubbers did just enough to win, & fouled 3 times himself. The fouls were the major part of the action, as Rudi covered himself more in gory than glory!

11. Amos cut Mclaglen on the forehead in round 1, & the cut was reopened in the 3rd, 4th & 6th. Victor was ahead, but knew time was running out, even though he had a great cut man! So Amos's fan contingent can breathe a sigh of relief as he advances!

12. Turnbow landed more punches each round, but Butterbean landed 2 huge ones in round 3. This angered Mel, who unleashed a mighty hook in the 4th round, cutting the left eyelid, and the ref stopped it! Butterbean, while upset at the stoppage, was philosophical about it, and headed back to the buffet, where he became incensed upon learning the Mohegan had switched to a new pricing schema, charging by the weight of the plate! Turnbow is starting to look like a contender, and his loyal fans went wild at the conclusion of the fight!

13. Robinson was way ahead in this one, and I'd even pre-written him as the victor, but then Lannon got an 8 count KD in Round 8 to make it respectable. The one judge must have been related!

14. Llewelyn started slow, then came on fast. Mel Harris started slow and stayed that way! It wasn't close.

15. Lewis walloped Gardner from one side of the ring to the other! He had knockdowns in rounds 5 & 8, and scored 3 times Chico's points in an easy, lopsided win!

16. Dunn led through 3 rounds, then Levi scored knockdowns in rounds 4 & 5, and Dunn was done!

On to the 2nd half of the Round!!!!!

After some thought, I will be throwing my support behind Unknown Winston from here on out. Thats too great of a name for me not to root for.

Added a few new TCs including Juke Box and Bonyongo. See posts 163 and 180 in the TC Parade thread for them. Also added Tarzan City Guy and Louis Kid Galahad and some others. I've been looking at my old Ring Record Books and I'm making lists to cross reference with boxrec.

I'll be starting the 2nd half this evening. Depending on how the Ravens do against the Patriots (and I can guess how that's going to be), I may be skipping their second half to work my way down toward Soldier's bout!

It was a tough break - or cut! The fight was almost dead even til that point, and it was the first time this tournament that a fight was stopped after the initial cut! I'll have to see how good Butterbean's cut man was.

Mel'll meet Derek Amos next, and maybe then his run toward immortality will end! Mel reminds me of my career (?) in high school basketball. My leaping ability prompted several to proclaim that I was not Sky-Walker, but rather Ground-Hugger! I resembled the inference!

The boxers who registered for this tournament on a timely basis are anxious to take on these Johnny Come-Latelys! Messieurs Wofford, Booth, Butterbean and the others eliminated to date are salivating at the prospect of getting a big payday and meeting a newbie on the championship undercard!

Speaking thereof, the proprietors of the Mohegan have informed me that they are running low on food, and demand the venue be shifted (I'd planned on that anyway)! Any thoughts on a new venue for Round 3, where the Sweet Sixteen will emerge?

I like the name of the guy that beat Huge Zimmerman. Cosack Karloff looks like a likely candidate.

Maybe Huge or Chub could square up against this titan:

Porky Speakman
389201
Birthplace and Residence: Unknown, The Man from Nowhere
0-1, 1 KOd 1984

Porky made his debut and swan song all in the same event against 1-7 Tim Miller, who knocked him out in Round 2. Unhappy with the nickname “Porky” shouted by the fans in attendance, Porky said “th-th-th-that’s all, folks” and retired.

Second Half of Round 2 Results Hopefully Tonight

The Ravens played a grand 59 minute football game, then imploded. By staying up late, and getting up real early, I was able to conduct the 2nd 16 fights for Round 2.

I hope to compile and issue the results this evening or early tomorrow morning, as the Soldier Kearns fans are waiting!!! Then we'll be down to 32 fighters, and things should move more quickly!

Round 2 Completed!!!

Here's the second half of Round 2 results:
17. Jimmy Thunder vs. Randy Neumann Neumann UD
18. Jody Ballard vs. Melvin Foster Ballard KO 2
19. Ray Impelletiere vs. Jim Stewart Stewart TKO 6
20. Bob Hazelton vs. Rocky Gannon Gannon UD
21. Irish Pat Duncan vs. Anthony Willis Duncan TKO 4
22. Billy Hunter vs. Bill Squires Squires TKO 5
23. Marty Franklin vs. Tunney Hunsaker Franklin SD
24. King Solomon vs. Sailor Jack Carroll Carroll UD
25. Stamford Harris vs. Louis Monaco Harris MD
26. Pedro Agosto vs. Cliff Couser Agosto KO 6
27. Oscar Pharo vs. Jack Roper Roper UD
28. Mike Rodgers vs. Jeremy Bates Rodgers KO 4
29. Al Palzer vs. Al Benedict Benedict UD
30. Eddie Brooks vs. Jack Munroe Munroe UD
31. George Linberger vs. Soldier Kearns Kearns KO 5
32. Art Tucker vs. Eddie Gregg Gregg TKO 8

Fight summaries:

17. Thunder put up a good fight, and it was even through 7, but Neumann clocked him for an 8 count KD and got the nod, 77-75.

18. After an even round 1, Foster was way ahead in round 2, as Ballard hadn't scored any points, but Jody fired off a combination and got the knockout at 2:53 of the round!

19. This was a gross mismatch, as Stewart pitched a shutout, rarely even getting hit! He nailed Ray for a 7 count KD to start the fight, then got a 2 count KD at the end of round 5, and Ray never recovered, turning into a human punching bag until the fight was stopped!

20. This fight was a brawl! Rocky scored a 7 count KD in round 1, but Hazelton came back with two 5 point smashes in round 2 and a 6 count KD in round 3! The tide turned at the end of round 5, as Rocky notched his 2nd knockdown, a 2 counter! Hazelton fought gamely after that, but Rocky landed way more punches and points the ret of the way. The judges all had it 75-74 (I was 74-73) in a crowd-pleasing fight! The Rock moves on!

21. Irish Pat surprisingly dominated the action, doubling Willis in both points scored and punches landed.

22. In the battle of the Bills, Hunter started fast with a 3 count KD in round 1! Squires recovered and started pounding Hunter in round 3, hitting him more each round. Hunter's eye was pretty swollen, and he couldn't fight back in round 5, as squires poured it on until the ref stopped it at the 2:40 mark!

23. This was a dull, low-scoring affair, as the two played pitty-pat with light punches. Franklin built up a pretty safe lead, but Hunsaker had a huge round 8, outscoring Marty 22-10. This swayed one judge, who went 77-76 for him, but the other 2 and me scored it 78-75 for Franklin. The crowd's silence was deafening!

24. The Sailor hammered King around the ring in round 1, setting the tone for the fight. Carroll committed 4 fouls, which gave Solomon the nod in several close rounds. Sailor notched a 3 count KD in round 7, winning a 78-74 easy decision (one judge had it 80-72)!

25. This was a defensive match, with the fighters alternating rounds in terms of scoring. I had it dead even, as there were no close rounds from a points perspective. Harris won the last round, and that must have swayed 1 judge. The third, who must have been watching the battle at the buffet, scored it 78-74 for Harris. Monaco clearly deserved a draw, and will be looking for a rematch!

26. Agosto continued to be extremely impressive, winning every round. Couser may have lost heart when, leading 14-0 in the 4th round, Pedro suddenly knocked him down for an 8 count! pedro pounded him in the 5th round, then scored a one punch KO at 0:14 of the 6th!

27. Jack Roper outclassed Pharo, winning by large margins in all but one round, and capping things off with a 9 count knockdown in the last round! It was an easy 79-72 decision, and the judges were kind to Oscar.

28. This one was a slugfest, and the last man standing won! Bates scored a 4 count KD in the opening round, when both landed many punches. Rodgers scored more heavily in round 2, and round 3 was even. Rodgers landed a big hook in round 4, and Bates was counted out at 0:35! The crowd cheered both fighters!

29. In the battle of the Als, benedict was a wee bit better than Palzer, and his round 8 5 count KD sealed the win, 77-74.

30. This was yet another see-saw fight that I saw as a draw. Obviously, my vision is flawed, as the judges had it 78-75 and 78-76 for Munroe. Brooks deserved better!

31. Soldier Kearns continued his trek toward the title, and his performances are increasing his fan base! In a rock em, sock em bout, he put George down twice in the 1st round, for 8 & 7 counts, and outscored a dazed George 30-0! Linberger had no quit in him, and hurt Soldier in round 2. Round 3 was qiet, but George continued his assault in round 4, garnering a 4 count KD and cutting Soldier's left eyelid, causing a temporary halt. Worried that the fight might be stopped, Soldier stormed the ring in round 5 like one of Teddy's Roughriders, tagging George for a huge hook and a 9 count KD. Soldier then went for the kill and got it!

32. Gregg's TKo came with a second left in the fight! Why it didn't come sooner is the question, as he knocked Tucker almost to Boston, scoring 2 knockdowns (rounds 1 & 6) and averaging almost 20 point per round! Tucker was plumb-tuckered after absorbing this beating!

So, soon, it'll be on to Round 3, the Terrible Thirty-twos!

Round Three Pairings

It's snowing in Ball-tee-more, the first of the season, and the Baltimore-aniacs are causing havoc on the roads. But I got home early, and am ready to start Round 3, after shoveling snow for a bit!

The setting has shifted to the Foxwoods, where a good crowd is anticipated. A number of fighters that were eliminated have come as well, enticed by the buffet (the Mohegan's belated weight of the plate angered them) and by the prospect of taking on Jukebox Timebomb or one of his minions for a nice payday!

Without further ado, here are the pairings for Round 3:

1. Joe Cox vs. Joseph Smith
2. Wild Bill Hardney vs. Lou Strydom
3. Unknown Winston vs. Mario Cawley
4. Garing Lane vs. Charley Powell

5. Johnny Erjavec vs. Rudi Lubbers
6. Derek Amos vs. Mel Turnbow
7. Robbie Robinson vs. Wayne Llewelyn
8. Terrence Lewis vs. Levi Forte

9. Randy Neumann vs. Jody Ballard
10. Jim Stewart vs. Rocky Gannon
11. Irish Pat Duncan vs. Bill Squires
12. Marty Franklin vs. Sailor Jack Carroll

13. Stamford Harris vs. Pedro Agosto
14. Jack Roper vs. Mike Rodgers
15. Al Benedict vs. Jack Munroe
16. Soldier Kearns vs. Eddie Gregg

Here's the fan favorites who are still in the running: Unknown Winston, Derek "D-Mos" Amos, Mel (rated a 0 in 2.5) Turnbow, Mike Rodgers, Soldier Kearns, "anyone who beats Turnbow"

Here's the favorites that have been eliminated: Mark Gastineau, Danny Wofford, Tony Booth, Sam Shumway, Jimmy Thunder, Art Jimmerson, Butterbean, Charlie polite, "Facelifter" Louis Monaco

Here's the list of favorites that should be on the championship undercard:
Jukebox Timebomb (repeat 10 times), Bonyongo Destroyer, Danny Wofford (the path to the champion must go through Danny)

Are there any fans who have someone (other than Mel) who they'd least like to see advance?

Time to go hurt my back!
