Pedro Agosto has been fun. But for the time being, beating Jerry Quarry and Buster Mathis doesn't seem that big, they are both loosing to someone that should be waaay below them.. I thought there was something 'Carlos Baldomir' about him..

Saturday 17th of June 1972

Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA

USBA - Leotis Martin v Dave Zyglewicz
Earnie Shavers v Larry Middleton
Jerry Quarry v Buster Mathis
Ron Lyle v Roger Russell
Jose Luis Garcia v Larry Duncan
Mike Weaver v Bambate George

Mike Weaver 3-0-0 (3) v Bambata George 4-0-1, 6 rounds

Mike Weaver won by KO 5 as he improves to 4-0-0 (4)

Jose Luis Garcia 10-4-1 (7) v Larry Duncan 10-3-0 (7), 8 rounds

Garcia won by UD 8 as he improves to 11-4-1 (7)

Ron Lyle 9-0-0 (8) v Roger Russell 26-8-0 (2), 10 rounds

Lyle faces his toughest test to date in experienced Russell.

Russell is send down in the 2nd. Lyle dominates and sends him down again in the 5th, this time for the full count.

Ron Lyle wins by KO 5 as he improves to 10-0-0 (9) with an impressing perfomance

Jerry Quarry 28-5-0 (22) v Buster Mathis 30-8-0 (8), 10 rounds

Two former IBF world champions who are on a very bad streak, face eachother in a bout that could make or break both fighters' career.

Score after two is dead even. Quarry wins 3rd. Mathis wins 4th. 5th is too close to call. Quarry wins 6th. Mathis wins 7th as Quarry is tiring out. Mathis wins 8th. Quarry sends Mathis down for a ten count in the 9th with a solid combination.

Jerry Quarry wins a KO 9 as he improves to 29-5-0 (23).

Earnie Shavers 21-0-0 (19) v Larry Middleton 29-3-1 (8), 10 rounds

Earnie steps up once again in whats expected to be a very hard bout for him. He has victories against such fighters as Jose Urtain, Piermario Baruzzi, Boone Kirkman and Dante Cane. None of them is on the level of Middleton. Middleton is a top contender who has victories against fighters such as Doug Jones, Dave Zyglewicz and Manuel Ramos. He has a draw against Leotis Martin. His losses has come against the abovementioned Manuel Ramos, Buster Mathis and George Chuvalo.

My prediction: Earnie will have trouble and will be behind on the scorecards when he stops Middleton in the 5th.

1st: Shavers hurts Middleton and almost stops him. 22-6

2nd: Shavers lands a perfect hook that sends Middleton to the floor. Middleton gets up, but is send down once again. This time with a wild overhand right. Middleton barely gets up at the count of 9. Shavers lands a big cross that sends Middleton down again. The three knockdown rule has come into effect.

Earnie Shavers TKO 2 Larry Middleton!!

Very impressive showing from Shavers, that could make him a very ducked fighter.

Earnis Shavers improves to 22-0-0 (20) while Middleton moves to 29-4-1 (8)

Leotis Martin 32-9-2 (18) v Dave Zyglewicz 31-5-0 (22), 12 rounds for the USBA title

Long time contender and former world champion Leotis Martin is looking to rebound from two losses and one draw in his latest three fights. Zyglewicz has been very up and down. He seems to beat every one who is mediocre, but has for the most part lost to the top fighters. He does have one big win against Gregorio Peralta though. Martin is an all round good fighter, while Zyglewicz biggest asset seems to be his chin and his pretty good handspeed. He has only been stopped once, against Ken Norton.

My prediction: Martin will pound Zyglewicz, but won't get him down. The ref will stop it in the 12th.

1st: Zyglewicz wins 1st. 5-10

2nd: Zyglewicz is winning the round, but Martin is strong at the end. 9-7

3rd: Back and forth action that Ziggy gets the better of. 8-10

4th: Close round. 8-7

5th: Martin wins a big round. 18-9

6th: Martin hurts Ziggy to win the round. 13-5

7th: Zyglewicz lands a big hook that sends Martin down. 5-22

8th: Close round. 7-8

9th: Zyglewicz sends Martin down against, with a wicked hook. 8-24

10th: Zyglewicz hurts Martin again as he is very good tonight. 7-19

11th: Martin is send down for the third time of the fight, with another hook. 2-20

12th. Zyglewicz sends Martin down with another hook, this time to the body. Martin gets up again. Zyglewicz pounds the exhausted Martin to win a TKO.

Dave Zyglewicz TKO 12 Leotis Martin

Very very impressive perfomance by Ziggy as he improves to 32-5-0 (23) as he becomes USBA champ. Leotis Martin moves to 32-10-2 (18).

July 1st, 1972 - News

The undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, Joe Frazier (31-3-0 with 30 stoppages) will face former world champion Muhammad Ali (42-2-0 with 34 stoppages) in September! Joe Frazier v Muhammad Ali 5 was announced two days ago. The two fighters has a great rivalry with 4 fights having already been fought. First fight ended in dissapointing fashion with a 5th TKO win for Ali because of a Frazier cut. In the second fight, Joe Frazier stunned the world by a 5th round stoppage of Ali. The third fight is to this day one of the most remembered fights in boxing history. The fight was alarmingly brutal. Both fighters were down once and Frazier had the lead on all three scorecards before the 8th round. Ali knocked Frazier down once, and the next time he was out for the full count. The 4th fight was exciting until Frazier stopped it already in the 3rd.

The day after the announcement of the Frazier v Ali 5 matchup, WBA and WBC decided to strip Joe of his titles. Their reason for this step was that, the rules determine that you have to meet your mandatory challenger once every 12 months. In september, it will be 14 months since defending against his WBA and WBC mandatory challengers. He will keep his WBO belt though as he met their mandatory challenger, Ken Norton, in May this year. The WBO belt will be on the line in Frazier v Ali 5

WBA has announced that they will hold an 4-fight tournament to determine the new champion. The tourney will begin in October. These fighters will take part:
George Foreman
Winner of George Chuvalo v Al Jones
Dave Zyglewicz
Earnie Shavers

WBC is yet to announce how their champion will be determined.

The ring rankings:

Ch: Joe Frazier 31-3-0 (30)
1. George Foreman 23-0-0 (23)
2. George Chuvalo 38-11-0 (28)
3. Al Jones 31-4-0 (7)
4. Al Lewis 28-1-2 (16)
5. Dave Zyglewicz 32-5-0 (23)
6. Earnie Shavers 22-0-0 (20)
7. Ken Norton 25-2-0 (23)
8. Leotis Martin 32-10-2 (18)
9. Gregorio Peralta 36-12-1 (22)
10. Oscar Bonavena 32-8-0 (26)

Eddie Neilson 1-0-0 v Aaron Capemore 1-2-0, 6 rounds

Eddie Neilson wins by KO 5 and improves to 2-0-0 (1)

Del Phillips 13-6-1 (3) v Richard Dunn 16-5-2 (4) II, 10 rounds

The first fight between the two was a draw.

The result was a 10th round majority draw.

Gerhard Zech 37-12-0 (28) v Peter Boddington 18-2-1 (13)

Boddington surprised the 4 to 1 favorite by winning by KO 4 as he improves to 19-2-1 (14)

Main Event

Gene Innocent 22-4-0 (13) v Joe Bugner 21-6-0 (15), 12 rounds for the EBU title

Bugner is the 11 to 1 favourite, but many expect him to show up and not care like so many times before. His record doesn't show how good he actually is at times, but neither does it show how awful he can be when he isn't in the mood.

Innocent wins a close 1st. Bugner wins 2nd. Bugner stuns Innocent in the 3rd to win the round. 4th is close, but Bugner might have edged it. Innocent comes strong to win the 5th. Bugner wins 6th. Innocent is good in the 7th as he wins it. Nothing happens in a close 8th. Innocent wins 9th. A cut is opened above Bugners right eye, as Innocent wins 10th. Bugner wins 11th and 12th.

Scorecards are:
115-113 Joe Bugner
115-114 Gene Innocent
115-113 for the winner by split decision....

and NEW EBU champioon, Joe Bugner!

Joe Bugner improves to 22-6-0 (15) without impressing. Gene Innocent moves to 22-5-0 (13).

WBC championship news

WBC has taken a surprising step announcing that IBF champ Al Lewis (28-1-2 with 16 KO's) will face the winner of Ken Norton (25-2-0 with 23 KO's) v Gregorio Peralta (36-12-1 with 22 KO's) in a unification bout.

EBU news

Newly crowned EBU champ Joe Bugner (22-6-0 with 15 KO's) will defend his title against undefeated Rudi Lubbers (14-0-0 with 2 KO's) from the netherlands. Joe Bugner will be a huge favourite to overcome the unknown Lubbers. Bugner v Lubbers has been scheduled for a November fight.

Other News

Jimmy Young (23-0-0 with 10 KO's) has stated that he can't understand why he didn't crack the top 10 at WBA and WBC organizations after his wins against Buster Mathis and Jack O'Halloran. He is ranked #12 by both. IBF and WBO ranked him at #10.

Pedro Agosto (22-8-0 with 16 KO's) has stated that he want's a rematch with both Gregorio Peralta (36-12-1 with 22 KO's) and Al Lewis (28-1-2 with 16 KO's). He lost to Peralta by a controversial 12th round split decision. His loss against Al Lewis, though was quite clear, as he took the full count in the 1st round.

When asked who he wanted to fight next, Leotis Martin (32-10-2 with 18 KO's) was very clear: "Joe Frazier!"

The ring rankings:

Ch: Joe Frazier 31-3-0 (30)

Mike Schutte 7-0-1 (6) v Mike Boswell 11-2-0 (9), 8 rounds

Boswell surprised by winning a 8th round UD, as he improves to 12-2-0 (9) while Schutte moves to 7-1-1 (6)

Joe Alexander 18-2-1 (10) v Charley Polite 20-18-1 (5), 10 rounds

Alexander outboxed and outfought Polite to send him down for good in the 6th as he improves to 19-2-1 (11).

Pedro Agosto 22-8-0 (16) v Roy Williams 27-9-0 (15), 10 rounds

Agosto looks to rebound from his two latest losses.

Agosto won a close UD 10 with the scores: 96-93, 95-94 twice.

Oscar Bonavena 32-8-0 (26) v Mani Vaka 20-2-2 (14), 10 rounds

Bonavena was going down the rankings, but has now won his last two against Jeff Merritt and Domenico Adolfi. Vaka on the other hand, shocked by defeating former world champ Jerry Quarry by 7th round TKO.

Vaka was cut already in the 1st, above the left eye. Bonavena seemed to be the clearly better fighter. Some rounds he dominated and some were close, even with Vaka winning a few, but he was never close to defeating Vaka. Vaka was send down in the 8th.

Scores were; 97-92, 98-91 and 95-94 for Oscar Bonavena. How the japanese judge could score it 95-94 is mysterious.

Oscar Bonavena improves to 33-8-0 (26) while Mani Vaka moves to 20-3-2 (14)

George Chuvalo 38-11-0 (28) v Al Jones 31-4-0 (7) III, 12 rounds for the NABF title and a place in the WBA tourney.

Chuvalo is the 3 to 2 favourite, why i don't know considering that Jones outboxed the canadian last time the two met. The first time, Jones won a controversial 12th round split decision.

Jones wins 4 of the first 5 rounds with good defensive boxing and countering. Chuvalo is cut from an accidental headbutt in the 6th round, which Al Jones won. Jones then moved on to clearly win 7th, 8th, 9th before the fight was stopped due to the cut in the 10th, meaning the fight will go the scorecards here:

Scores are; 89-82, 88-83 twice, all for the winner by unanimous decision, and NEW NABF champ Al Jones

Al Jones secured himself a spot in the WBA tourney and will face Earnie Shavers in October as he impoves to 32-4-0 (7) while George Chuvalo moves to 38-12-0 (28) and many will think he should retire at this point.

Main Event

Al Lewis 28-1-2 (16) v Boone Kirkman 20-4-0 (14), 15 rounds for the IBF championship

Lewis is the 2 to 1 favourite in this optional second defence of the title. He won the belt, by a TKO 9, because of a cut, against Al Jones. He then impressed in his first defence as he KO'ed Pedro Agosto in one round. Lewis is by many considered to be a paper champ, especially after announcing that he'd defend against Boone Kirkman, who is mostly considered to be a mediocre fighter. He was ranked #14 by the IBF, making this fight eligible as a title fight. Boone Kirkman has one good win, against Mac Foster and arguably defeating Billy Walker and Mel Turnbow are good accomplishments. His best fight was probably against Joe Frazier as he became the 4th fighter to take him to the 8th round. Noone has to this date taken him further.

My prediction: Lewis will have his trouble but will stop Kirkman late after many rounds of punishment. TKO 13 for Al Lewis.

1st round: Kirkman stuns Lewis with an uppercut, but Lewis comes very strong as he knocks Kirkman to the floor with a hook. Kirkman is counted out!!

My predictions on Al Lewis really suck!!

Al Lewis KO 1 Boone Kirkman

Second 1st round stoppage in a row for Al Lewis, who is not even considered to be a hard puncher. He really seems to be fighting better as a champ than he was before, he had only scored one 1st round stoppage before becoming the champ.

Al Lewis improves to 29-1-2 (17) and can now look forward to a IBF/WBC unification bout against the winner of Norton v Peralta. Boone Kirkman moves to 20-5-0 (14)

George Chuvalo retires

At the post fight conference of Jones v Chuvalo, the canadian announced that he has fought his last fight. Chuvalo has enjoyed a career full of highlights in great fights. Chuvalo started his career with 18 wins in a row, including 14 KO's. Most notable was victories against Thad Spencer twice and Franco DePiccoli. He then got a place in the WBA tourney to declare the first ever champion. He faced Amos Johnson, but lost a 4th round TKO. He was never knocked down in the fight. He then won two in a row before losing to Gregorio Peralta. He followed that with a 6 fight winning streak, with wins against fighters such as Robert Cleroux and Tony Alongi. He then fought two more fights with Gregorio Peralta, winning one and losing one. He got a chance at the title against Muhammad Ali, and lost a 15th round UD. 1½ years later, he got another chance, but lost by KO 4. He won his first world title against Doug Jones for the IBF championship. The rest of his career was filled with title shots, his most notable fights was then victories against Al Jones, Larry Middleton and Leotis Martin. He will be remembered mostly for his great ability to take punishment, and relentless agressiveness. Chuvalo retired with a record of 38-12-0 (28)

WBA Tourney news

It got official in August that Al Jones will face Earnie Shavers in October in one of the semifinals of the WBA tourney. The other semifinal will as earlier announced be between George Foreman and Dave Zyglewicz.

IBF and WBC news

After defeating Boone Kirkman by 1st round KO, Al Lewis earned the rights to face the winner of Ken Norton and Gregorio Peralta in a unification bout.

Other news

The undercard to the highly anticipated, Frazier v Ali 5 fight has been announced:

Jimmy Young (23-0-0 with 10 KO's), who many experts have called a future champion, will face Pedro Agosto (23-8-0 with 16 KO's) as he will try to get the crowd going before the two last fights. Mike 'Hercules' Weaver 5-0-0 (4) v Tony 'Irish' Doyle 24-16-2 (12), 8 rounds

Weaver gave Doyle a big beating and send him down three times in the 8th and final round to win a TKO.

Mike Weaver improves to 6-0-0 (5)

Terry 'TX' Daniels 14-1-0 (5) v Albert Westphal 43-16-2 (28), 8 rounds

Daniels impressively outboxed the german to win 8th round UD with the scores: 80-72 twice, 77-75

Daniels improves to 15-1-0 (5).

Ron Lyle 10-0-0 (9) v Mac Foster 27-8-2 (22), 10 rounds

Lyle continues to step it up, this time against a former world title challenger. Foster is on a bad streak, with two losses in a row against Al Jones and Domenico Adolfi. Lyle already at this early stage has wins against Randy Neumann, Ted Gullick and Roger Russell.

Lyle won the 1st, and pounded Foster in the 2nd in order for the ref to stop the fight!

Ron Lyle TKO 2 Mac Foster

Ron Lyle improves to 11-0-0 (10) after another win against a top opponent.

Jimmy Young 23-0-0 (10) v Pedro 'Schoolboy' Agosto 23-8-0 (16), 10 rounds

Young has been impressive so far with wins against Manuel Ramos, Jose Urtain, Mani Vaka, Roger Russell, Buster Mathis and Jack O'Halloran. Agosto has been somewhat of a headline story with shocking wins against Santo Amonti, Buster Mathis and Jerry Quarry, before him coming up short in a controversial split decision loss to Gregorio Peralta. He then got a title shot against Al Lewis, but was stopped in one.

1st round: Young wins a slow round. 10-2

2nd round: Agosto is cut above the left eye, after a hard cross. Agosto comes very strong in the round as he stuns Young. 4-20

3rd round: Young wins a close round. 13-9

4th round: Young has trouble keeping Agosto off balance, but when he lands, he never just lands one punch, but good looking combos. 13-5

5th round: Young is fighting a smart fight, as he lands the necesarry punches and clinches alot. 10-0

6th round: Young is much more effective with his punching, but both are very active. 17-9

7th round: Agosto could be tiring out, as he misses many punches. 11-1

8th round: Very boring round, with Young scoring enough to win. 6-2

9th round. Another supreme round for Young. 13-0

10th round. Young wins another good round. 15-2

Scorecards are.. 96-94, 99-91 and 97-93

All for the winner by unanimous decision Jimmy Young!

I had it 99-91, and the 96-94 card seems really off, but he got the win.

Jimmy Young improves to 24-0-0 (10) after a smooth boxing perfomance. If he had power, he would be very frighteningly good. Pedro Agosto moves to 23-9-0 (16).

Ken Norton 25-2-0 (23) v Gregorio Peralta 36-12-1 (22), 12 round WBC and IBF eliminator

Norton was storming along and beating fighters like Chuck Wepner, Henry Clark and Dave Zyglewicz in order to earn a shot at Fraziers championship. As with so many others, he was stopped. In the 5th. Peralta has been a top contender for over a decade and holds very impressive victories, against fighters such as George Chuvalo, Jimmy Ellis, Doug Jones and Oscar Bonavena. Everytime he has faced the real top fighters Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier he has lost, though never without putting up a fight. He lost his last fight against George Foreman, who is in the WBA tourney.

My Prediction: Peralta will try to box but Nortons supreme offensive skills will catch Peralta over and over, en route to a late stoppage. Ken Norton wins 10th round KO.

1st round: Peralta outlands Norton, but none of his punches has any steam, while Nortons punches staggers Peralta. 11-6

2nd: Peralta has a good round as he trowhs punches in bunches that keeps Norton off balance. 3-15

3rd: Norton goes to the body, looking to take the air out of Peralta. 10-6

4th: Norton stuns Peralta and wins a big round. 20-2

5th: Peralta is send to the floor by a big hook. Peralta gets up quickly. Norton pounds Peralta and wins a big round. 23-0

6th: Peralta manages to keep Norton at bay, but his body punches stings. 6-10

7th: Peralta is looking tired, and he is getting slower and slower. He still lands his share of the punches. 11-6

8th: Good round for the argentine as he keeps Norton away. 6-10

9th: Norton continues his body attack, and sends Peralta down with a punch under his ribcage. Peralta looks in big pain, but he gets up. Norton is very close to stopping the argentine. 21-4

10th: Both fighters slow down as Peralta lands the only meaningfull punches. 2-5

11th: Norton wins the round as both fighters are flailing away. 15-10

12th: Norton tries to put a KO on his record, but fails. 13-2

Scorecards: 116-110, 117-109 twice

All for the winner by unanimous decisioon, Ken Norton!

Ken Norton improves to 26-2-0 (23) as he can now look forward to the unification bout against Al Lewis. Gregorio Peralta moves to 36-13-1 (22).

Joe Frazier 31-3-0 (30) v Muhammad Ali 42-2-0 (34), 15 rounds for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world

The WBO belt will be on the line.

The 5th bout of the two fighters brutal rivalry is one of the most anticipated ever.
The history between the two is as following:
1968-03-21 Muhammad Ali TKO 5 cuts Joe Frazier
1968-07-14 Joe Frazier TKO 3 Muhammad Ali
1969-11-05 Muhammad Ali KO 8 Joe Frazier (Fight of the century)
1971-04-09 Joe Frazier KO 3 Muhammad Ali

Ali announced his retirement after the fourth bout between the two. Today, one year and six months later, Ali is back. Frazier has been frightening lately, as he has dispatched Peralta, Martin and Norton.

Frazier is still yet to have a fight, win or lose, go past the 8th round.

My prediction: Back and forth action, until Frazier is dispatched with a wicked combo in the 7th.

1st round: Ali lands a hard hook. Frazier lands a big right. Ali counters with a big uppercut. Frazier stuns Ali with a big right. 12-12

2nd: Ali lands a quick hook. Ali lands a jab-cross combo. Frazier lands a smashing cross. Frazier lands a biig left hook that sends Ali down!. Ali is up at the count of 3, but doesn't look too well. Frazier lands a big left. Ali survives. 21-9

3rd round: Frazier lands a solid uppercut. Ali lands a quick combo. Frazier lands a crushing hook. The ref stops the round 7 seconds before the bell rings!. 12-6

4th round: Ali lands a big right hand. Ali lands a nice cross. Frazier lands a strong left uppercut. Ali lands a smashing hook. Ali lands a crushing cross. Frazier lands a left hook. 8-18

5th round: Ali lands a three punch combo. Ali turns Frazier head halfway round with a big right. Frazier wins an exchange. Another exchange. Frazier lands a big uppercut. Ali lands two quick jabs. Frazier lands a quick flurry. Frazier lands a strong left hook. 18-15

6th round: Ali lands a hard shot. Frazier lands a left hook. Frazier lands another left hook. Frazier lands a sneaky right. Ali lands a short uppercut on the inside. Another uppercut. Frazier lands a big right. Frazier lands with a three punch combo. Ali lands a one-two combo. 18-12

The crowd are on their feet screaming in approval!

7th round: Frazier gets the better of a small exchange. Frazier lands a hook. Ali lands a hook. Frazier lands a sharp combo. Ali hooks to the body of Frazier. Ali lands a hook. Another exchange. And one more punch trade. 16-18

The crowd is going absoloutely crazy.
Let's see if the fight can go past the 8th, for the first time of Fraziers career.

8th round:
Frazier lands two hooks. Ali comes back with a jab-cross combo. Frazier lands a big cross. Ali goes to the body. Frazier lands a big three punch combo that hurts Ali. Ali lands a quick hook. 15-13

Frazier will fight a 9th round, for the first time ever!

9th round: Frazier lands a big left. Frazier goes to the body and then up top with a hard cross. Ali lands his jab over and over. Ali lands a hook. Frazier lands two hooks. Ali lands a quick combo. 13-8

10th round: Frazier lands a solid hook. Frazier lands a sweet uppercut. Frazier lands a big left hook. Frazier lands a smashing uppercut and Ali is trying to hang on. Frazier lands a straight right. Frazier lands another straight right and is stalking his opponent. Ali recovers and lands a volley of punches. Frazier lands a solid combo that sends Ali down!.
6..
7..
8..
Ali gets up, but can't even stand up straight and the ref wraps his arms around him!!!

Joe Frazier TKO 10 Muhammad Ali!

Wow! What a fight, this is up there with the third fight, the Fight of the century, as both were just flailing away, but Frazier was in the lead all the way through.

Frazier defends his undisputed heavyweight championship of the world, and his WBO belt as he improves to 32-3-0 (31), but he was for the first time taking further than the 8th round. Muhammad Ali moves to 42-3-0 (34).

1st October 1972, News

IBF champ Lewis to fight Norton

After WBC's suprising announcement of letting the IBF champ Al Lewis fight the winner of Norton v Peralta in a unification bout for the IBF and the vacant WBC belts. A few days after Ken Norton beating Peralta by UD 10 with the scores 116-110, 117-111 and 117-111, the fight was announced to take place in December. Al Lewis (29-1-2 with 17 KO's) has been surprisingly dominant in his so far two defences of the IBF title. Two 1st round KO's against Pedro Agosto and Boone Kirkman. Ken Norton (26-2-0 with 23 KO's) was storming along and got his shot against Joe Frazier. Like with so many others, Frazier ended Norton. The fight was actually pretty close until Fraziers power and speed became too much for Norton in the 5th.

Joe Frazier; Who should he fight next?

After Joe Fraziers (32-3-0 with 31 KO's) impressive 10th round TKO win against Muhammad Ali (42-3-0 with 34 KO's), speculations has been many. The winner of the WBA tourney would ofcourse be the dream opponent, but there is plenty of time for Frazier to fight another fight before that tournament is done. A third fight with Leotis Martin (32-10-2 with 18 KO's) was blown off by Fraziers manager, who argued that a man with two losses in a row isn't worth a thing. Oscar Bonavena (33-8-0 with 26 KO's) is another possibility. He has now won three in a row, although not against top competetion, and is looking arguably better than ever. His 4th round KO loss to George Foreman (23-0-0 with 23 KO's) seems to have fired him up, as he has been very good in his last three fights. Finally, Jimmy Youngs (24-0-0 with 10 KO's) name was also mentioned. Young could possibly have a style to keep Frazier away for a while, and at least make it an entertaining fight for a couple of rounds. To conclude this, all these names are fine names, but none are really top flight at the moment so it is most likely that he will fight someone who he can beat 99,99% surely and then move on to fight either the winner of the WBA tourney or the winner of Lewis v Norton.

Muhammad Ali will keep fighting

When Muhammad Ali (42-3-0 with 34 KO's) at the post fight conference of Frazier v Ali, was asked whether or not he would still continue he was very clear in stating that he would fight and beat the best until another chance came to beat Frazier.

Leotis Martin looking to rebound.

Leotis Martin (32-10-2 with 18 KO's) will take on New-Yorker Jeff Merritt (24-5-0 with 19 KO's) in December. Martin will be looking to rebound from his latest two fights, which both resulted in losses, against Joe Frazier and Dave Zyglewicz. Jeff Merritt is on a good streak with 6 wins in a row, most notable against Jack O'Halloran, Manuel Ramos and Randy Neumann.

Retirements

Chuck Wepner 26-18-1 (10) 1964-1972

Notable wins: TKO 2 Jimmy Ellis, KO 4 Oscar Bonavena, MD 10 Amos Johnson, TKO 7 George Logan, UD 10 Manuel Ramos, DQ 10 Ken Norton
Notable losses: KO 8 BY Muhammad Ali, TKO 10 By Jerry Quarry, TKO 3 By Oscar Bonavena

Chuck Wepner has always showed great heart and willingness to take punishment and has shocked many of his opponents, who were generally considered as superior to himself.

The ring rankings:

Ch: Joe Frazier 32-3-0 (31)
1. Al Jones 32-4-0 (7)
2. Al Lewis 29-1-2 (17)
3. George Foreman 23-0-0 (23)
4. Ken Norton 26-2-0 (23)
5. Dave Zyglewicz 32-5-0 (23)
6. Earnie Shavers 22-0-0 (20)
7. Leotis Martin 32-10-2 (18)
8. Oscar Bonavena 33-8-0 (26)
9. Jimmy Young 24-0-0 (10)
10. Henry Clark 35-8-1 (6)

New rule:

If a fighter debuts at age above 32 he will debut at pre-prime automatically. If he has participated in the olympics, he will debut at Prime.

If a fighter debuts at age above 27 he will normally debut at beginning. If he has participated in the olympics he will debut at pre-prime.

All fighters at age 26 or lower will debut at beginning no matter what..

BTW: Check out the olympic amateur thread, i've just finished the 1972 olympics.

This has also been added to the first page..
