Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my honor to present 15 rounds of boxing for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world here from Madison Square Garden!

18200 people on their feet, anxious for the fight to begin.

Introducing first, the WBC and IBF world champion, fighting out of San Diego, California.. The Black Hercules, Ken Norton!

Ken Norton is entering the ring to mixed sounds, some booes, some cheers.

Now introducing, the WBA and WBO world champion, fighting out of Louisville, Kentucky.. The Greatest of All Time, Muhammad Ali!

With the crazy noise, you can forget about talking to anyone right about now! It's obvious who their favourite are. Both fighters are now in the ring.

Muhammad Ali set to defend against Boone Kirkman on Haiti; declines Frazier and Foreman fights

Muhammad Ali (47-3, 38 KO's) has just fought one of the toughest fights in his career, winning a split decision against Ken Norton (30-3, 26 KO's) in the big unification bout, which made him the first ever to hold all four world championship belts. He is now set to defend against 'Boom Boom' Boone Kirkman (25-6, 18 KO's) who is coming off a surprising 10th round UD against former IBF world champ Al Jones (34-7, 8 KO's). It is said that he has received offers to fight Joe Frazier (35-4, 34 KO's) for the sixth time, George Foreman (27-1, 27 KO's) and Ken Norton (30-3, 26 KO's) in rematches. The bout is set for February 22nd, 1975 at the Gabriel Stadium in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.

Al Jones not eligible for NABF fight; Jeff Merritt replaces him

After Al Jones (34-7, 8 KO's) surprising 10th round UD loss against Boone Kirkman (25-6, 18 KO's) he is no longer eligible to fight Dave Zyglewicz (34-8, 24 KO's) for the NABF belt. Instead, Jeff Merritt (28-7, 22 KO's) has gotten the chance to showcase himself, as he is already in preparation for the January 4th, 1975 bout against Dave Zyglewicz.

Joe Bugner and Domenico Adolfi set for EBU fight

The former EBU champion and world championship challenger, Joe Bugner (26-8, 17 KO's) is set to fight italian Domenico Adolfi (25-6, 12 KO's) on February 14th, 1975 at Harringay Arena, London. Joe Bugner was reigning as EBU champion for a year and 3 title defenses, before stepping up to international level. He beat Dave Zyglewicz (34-8, 24 KO's) before losing against Ken Norton (30-3, 26 KO's) and Joe Frazier (35-4, 34 KO's) by 9th and 1st round knockouts. Domenico Adolfi is the italian champion after defeating Piermario Baruzzi (19-4, 14 KO's) and Bruno Giansanti (23-18-3, 8 KO's) in his two latest bouts.

The argentine started his career, promising to be the next big thing, sporting a record of 20-0 over the first two years and 10 monhts before he came up short in an upset against George Johnson (27-7 at the time). He revenged that, only to lose in his next bout against Chuck Wepner (19-3-1 at the time) by 4th round KO. He then won five in a row, before getting his title shot against Joe Frazier.. and being KO'ed in 6. He beat Billy Walker in 1968, Gregorio Peralta in 1969 and Jeff Merritt in 1971 as his biggest wins. He always posed some problems in losses against Joe Frazier in 1968, Muhammad Ali in 1970 and 1973, Gregorio Peralta in 1970 and 1971 and George Foreman in 1971.

The knockdown in the 15th was big! I would avoid Frazier and Foreman if I were Ali too! I dont know if you were ever using tb2.0 but it is sure a lot easier to incorporate all those regional titles with the new groupings feature here in 2.5.

It won him the fight.. Had he just won the round 10-9, it would have been a draw.

Scott LeDoux 2-0-0 vs Charley Polite 22-24-1 (7), 8 rounds

LeDoux fought like always early on, going inside, working the body and he won the first two rounds. Polite seemed to gain the advantage, edging the 3rd and punishing LeDoux bigtime in the 4th. Polite fought dirty in the 5th round, but got away with a low blow before being warned for using his shoulders illegally. He still managed to make the round close. 6th was dead even, before LeDoux edged a boring 7th. LeDoux won 8th. Scorecards were 76-75 for LeDoux, 76-75 for Polite and 76-75 for Polite.

Charley Polite won a stunning split decision improving to 23-24-1 (7), and forcing the 1972 olympic semifinalist Scott LeDoux to drop down to a 2-1 record.

Stan Ward 3-0 (2) vs Tony Doyle 29-22-2 (15), 8 rounds

Another tough test for the 32 year old, 1972 olympic silver medalist.

Ward fought a fantastic fight, dominating the journeyman all the way through and knocking him down in the 8th round. Scorecards were 80-71 and 79-72 twice for the pride of Sacramento, California.

Stan Ward improves to 4-0 (2) in impressive fashion.

Dante Cane 33-10 (26) vs Jurgen Blin 31-15-2 (7), 10 round EBU eliminator

Cane won 1st, and cut Blin from the mouth in 2nd. Blin gained the advantage in 3rd, before being outclassed 4th and knocked out in 5th.

Dante Cane improves to 34-10 (27) with a spectacular 5th round knockout. Jurgen Blin drops to 31-16-2 (7).

Henry Clark 37-11-1 (6) vs Bernard Thebault 30-13-1 (16), 10 rounds

Thebault dominated the early rounds after 1st being close. He won 2nd and 3rd, before Clark won the 4th. The frenchmen got into a streak, winning 5th, 6th and 7th and knocking Clark down in 8th. He edged the two final rounds. Scorecards were 98-91 for Thebault and 95-95 (twice??). The fight is a draw?

Bernard Thebault goes to 30-13-2 (16) and has every right to be upset, the 98-91 score was spot on. Henry Clark goes to 37-11-2 and must have paid these judges some dollars.

IBO Tourney Quarterfinals

#4 seed Giuseppe Ros 27-7-1 (13) vs #5 seed Mike Weaver 19-0 (16), 10 rounds

Weaver punched the italian around like he was a punching bag, battering him in 1st, 2nd and sending him to the canvas in 3rd. Ros was cut in the 4th after being hit clean yet again. Ros had his best round as 5th was even. The cut became too bad in 6th, as Weaver was declared the winner.

Mike Weaver improves to 20-0 (17) and proceeds to face the winner of Shavers vs Duncan, by way of a 6th round TKO. Giuseppe Ros drops to 27-8-1 (13).

#1 seed Earnie Shavers 26-1 (22) vs #8 seed Larry Duncan 18-5 (12), 10 rounds

Shavers came out storming, landing a wicked hook that send Duncan to the canvas only 38 seconds into the 1st. He got up, only to get battered, before going down for good 2 minutes and 22 seconds into the round.

Earnie Shavers improves to 27-1 (23) with a spectacular 1st round knockout, and he is ready to face Mike Weaver in the first semifinal.

Rematch between George Foreman and Joe Frazier announced!

The two former heavyweight champions of the world, 'Big' George Foreman (27-1, 27 KO's) and Joe Frazier (35-4, 34 KO's) has both signed the contracts for a rematch at Yankee Stadium on March 29th in 1975. Both fighters offered Muhammad Ali fights, but he has apparently declined, and this should prove to be another superfight. The first bout ended in a brutal 4th round TKO for George Foreman who was looking unstoppable, before losing to Muhammad Ali in South Africa. Joe Frazier has looked better than ever in his last two bouts, stopping Jimmy Young and Joe Bugner in rounds 10th and 1st.

Al Lewis set to rebound against Henry Clark

Former IBF heavyweight champion Al Lewis (30-4-2, 17 KO's) will get back in action on the undercard of Foreman vs Frazier after being away for 9 months on that day. He will rebound from the losses in his two latest bouts, against Ken Norton and George Foreman, as he faces former two-time heavyweight championship challenger Henry Clark (37-11-2, 6 KO's) who is arguably 'over the hill'.

Retirements

Buster Mathis (1965-1974) 33-14-1, 8 KOs.

Buster Mathis started his career in tremendous fashion, building up a record of 23-0 with wins against Dave Zyglewicz, Amos Johnson, Henry Clark and George Chuvalo, grabbing the IBF belt against Chuvalo by 15th round UD. He came up short in his first defence against Leotis Martin, losing by 15th round UD. He won the rematch 8 months later by MD 12, this time for the USBA and NABF belts. He got title shots against Joe Frazier in 1969 (5th round Tech UD loss) and Muhammad Ali in 1970 (5th round KO loss). He served as gatekeeper/journeyman in the last few years of his career. Buster was a highly skilled boxer with fast hands, who at times showed up overweight and unmotivated for his fights.

Jorj Shahatumi (1964-1974) 27-29-2, 5 KO's.

Robyn Draper (1965-1974) 21-28-2, 3 KO's.

Barry Werther (1966-1974) 13-27-7, 1 KO.

Ferdi Lafourcarde (1961-1975) 18-37-7, 5 KO's.

Kenmal Burle (1964-1974) 21-30-3, 3 KO's.

Larry Holmes improves to 11-0 (10) with a 2nd round TKO. Tony Coyne drops to 9-7-1.

IBO Tourney Quarterfinals

#3 seed Pedro Agosto 28-11 (19) vs #6 seed Jose Roman 27-9 (7), 10 rounds (The Puerto Rican championship is also on the line)

Winner will face winner of Young vs Zanini.

Roman got off to a good starting, grabbing rounds one and two. Agosto was behind in 3rd, before pounding Roman with a violent combinations and a huge hook to grab the round. Roman outboxed Agosto in 4th. Agosto battered Roman in 5th, knocking Roman down with a big hook. Roman edged a slow going 6th. 7th was close, before Agosto landed a vicious cross to win the round. Roman pounded Agosto with jabs and combinations in 8th and 9th. Agosto won the 10th with hard shots. Scorecards were: 95-94 on all three scorecards, for Jose Roman.

Jose Roman is set to face the winner of Young vs Zanini in Semifinal 2 as he improves to 28-9 (7) in a perfomance that proved great boxing skill, but a questionable chin. Pedro Agosto drops to 28-12 (19).

Jimmy Young 26-2 (10) vs Armando Zanini 22-4-1 (3), 10 rounds

Winner will face Jose Roman.

Young had no trouble dominating the first two rounds. Zanini caught Young with some body hooks in 3rd, edging the round. Young outboxed Zanini in 4th before being caught with a huge cross, making the round even. Young dominated 5th, but was detucted a point from continuos rabbit punching. He cruised through 6th and 7th winning them easily. Zaninis body work arguably won him 8th and 9th, before being outclassed again in 10th. Scorecards were: 97-92, 95-94 and 96-94 for Young.

Big fights anno December 1974

None really.

Retirements

Al Jones (1964-1974) 34-7, 8 KOs.

Al Jones announced that he no longer felt the passion for the sport after losing against Boone Kirkman. He built up a very fine record of 17 and 0 in the first three years and 7 months of his career. He beat contenders such as Henry Clark, Bernard Theabult, Mel Turnbow, Roy Williams and Alejandro Lavorante during this period before coming up short by split decision against Leotis Martin. He kept his contender status with wins against Bob Foster and Jimmy Ellis, before winning the rematch with Leotis Martin by split decision to become IBF world champion. He lost in his first defence against Jerry Quarry, whom he later beat twice (MD 12 and TKO 4). He had an entertaining trilogy with canadian George Chuvalo, winning two (both Technical UD in rounds 10 and 14, winning the IBF belt in the 14 ounder) and losing one (SD 12). He lost to hardfought bouts against Earnie Shavers late in his career, taking the power puncher the distance both times (UD and MD 12). These two bouts took alot out of him as it could be seen against Boone Kirkman. Al Jones was a fine boxer who did not pack much of a punch. He often outboxed good opponents, and he had a good heart, being only stopped once, a TKO 9 due to cuts, against Al Lewis, despite being knocked down 6 times (3 in the first fight against Quarry).

Klaas Goosens (1966-1974) 17-28-6, 5 KOs.

Scott LeDoux 2-1 vs Chris Smolinski 18-28-5 (3), 8 rounds

The hard slugging, 1972 olympic semifinalist, Scott LeDoux looks to rebound from his split decision loss against Charley Polite in October.

LeDoux caught Smolinski with big hook time and time again, knocking him down in 1st, 2nd and 7th in an easy victory. Scorecards: 80-70 and 80-71 (twice) for LeDoux.

Scott LeDoux improves to 3-1 with a 8th round unanimous decision victory.

Fred Houpe 5-0 (4) vs Urs Geiger 3-4-2 (2), 6 rounds

Houpe has been strong in the pros so far knocking every one of his opponents down, and only failing to finish experienced journeyman Roger Esucde. He has scored 8 knockdowns in 5 bouts landing an average of 26 punches per round against his opponents 12.

Geiger just edged the 1st, as Houpe was just measuring the distance. After a slow start to the 2nd also, Houpe seemed to find the distance landing at will, and at the 2:34 mark the inevidable thing happened as Houpe landed a beautiful cross, knocking the swiss down and out.

Fred Houpe improves to 6-0 (5) with a 2nd round knockout victory.

Mike Schutte 18-2-1 (13) vs Garth Grubb 22-17-3 (12), 10 rounds

ABU champion Mike Schutte is a 6-1 favourite to overcome the experienced Garth Grubb.

Schutte dominated the first couple of rounds, knocking Grubb down in the 3rd. He landed a huge combination in 4th, sending Grubb to the canvas, unable to continue.

Mike Schutte improves to 19-2-1 (14) with a 4th round knockout.

Larry Frazier 14-3 (8) vs Jose Luis Garcia 13-7-3 (9), 8 rounds

Frazier is still making a name of his surprising unanimous decision win against prospect Ron Lyle, even though he got knocked out in five by Raimo Nisula in his last fight. Garcia is known as the always tough scrap, having big wins against Joe Bugner, Pedro Lovell, Larry Duncan, Gregorio Peralta aswell as draws against Mani Vaka and Sam N'Gata.

The fight got off to a slow start, with Garcia grabbing the 1st, Frazier the 2nd. 3rd was a bit more actionfilled as Garcia got the better of the action. Frazier dominated 4th, and did very little, but enough to win 5th and 6th. He pounded Garcia in 7th before losing 8th. Scorecards: 77-75 on all cards for Larry Frazier.

Larry Frazier improves to 15-3 (8) with a boring 8th round unanimous decision victory.

Terry Daniels 21-5 (8) vs Eric Saint-Louis 22-21-2 (6), 10 rounds

Daniels was a highly regarded prospect early in his career, building up a 15-1 record and always managed to look good, outboxing his opponents. Then he came up short against Randy Neumann, Piermario Baruzzi, Jerry Quarry and Jeff Merritt, dropping his prospect status. He got back on track by defeating Tony Venutra in August.

Daniels had bigger trouble than expecting early, but slowly took control of the bout and ended up outboxing the canadian. Scorecards: 98-92 on all three cards for Daniels.

Terry Daniels improves to 22-5 (8) with a 10th round unanimous decision win.

Larry Duncan 18-6 (12) vs Ron Lyle 19-1 (17), 10 rounds

Duncan holds good victories against Mecki Friedrich, Joe Alexander, Peter Weiland, Ted Gullick and most importantly Leotis Martin. He lost his last bout against Earnie Shavers by 1st round knockout in the IBO tournament.

Ron Lyle has looked like a force, although his loss against Larry Frazier doesn't look too good on his record. He has beaten Randy Neumann, Ted Gullick, Roger Russell, Mac Foster, Roy Williams and Fonomanu Sekona.

Lyle landed a violent hook, to win him the 1st round. He gave Duncan a beating in round 2, despite being hit with some well timed counters. Lyle started off brutally in 3rd, before being pounded with some wicked combinations making the round even. Lyle battered Duncan, before the ref (prematurely) stepped in to spare DUncan from more punishment.

Ron Lyle improves to 20-1 (18) with a 4th round TKO victory in a fight where he landed with an incredible accuracy of 64,5 % landing 36 of 56 punches per round, but it has to be said that Duncan has one of the worst defenses around.
