It's even wilder than that if I remember correctly. Don't they base the county-by-county delegate total at stake not by population but by how the county voted in the last gubernatorial or presidential general election? So, the delegates for stake in a county are based on if the county went for the democrat candidate in the last election and to what degree.

Your vote in Houston is worth more than mine in Texarkana. I guess that I'd be 3/5 of a person? Absolutely wigged-out stuff.

I know that each state and party has the right to conduct primaries however they see fit but wow. Wow, Texas, come back to us.

Given the history of Texas politicians, I say we just give it to Mexico . . maybe in trade for like a few million tacos or something.

I believe that I read somewhere that Texas is the only state that retains the exclusive right to seceed from the United States at any time if it wants to.

I think they do however need Chuck Norris to sign off on it first though.

Yep, that's how I understand that. Of course, wanting a fun simulation rather than a brain-bending exercise in agony precluded any of these complexities in the RtWH2008. Having the primary go one way while the caucus went the other was bad enough (and oh so true to life, as it turns out).

I always liked the breakdown of the vote rather than winner take all in the primaries, that is until now. I never did, however, cotton to the idea of superdelegates. I think the only individuals in favor of such shenanigans are the people who in yesterday's world sat in smoke filled rooms playing poker with the American electorate.

And that's about as close to "real" politics as I plan to venture in this thread...not wishing to create yet ANOTHER area of OOTP I'd want to avoid...

Breaking News: Edwards wins big in Montana

03/08/08

Helena - Senator John Edwards was a landslide victor today in the Wyoming Caucus. Edwards, grasping at anything to turn his sliding fortunes around, declared to a jubilant throng that the win represented a "major step forward in our march to the Democratic nomination." Edwards now sits exactly 100 delegates behind frontrunner Christopher Dodd.

The race in Montana was a two candidate affair, with Governor Bill Richardson opting out due to financial constraints. The next Democratic primary is Tuesday, when Mississippi's 33 pledged delegates will be at stake.

Democratic Delegates won in Montana:
Edwards - 10
Dodd - 2

Delegate count overall:

Democratic - 2025 needed

Christopher Dodd - 864
John Edwards - 764
Bill Richardson - 681
Barack Obama - 304

Out of the Race

Hillary Clinton - 48
Joe Biden - 27
Mike Gravel - 18

Richardson vows to end bid if he doesn't win Mississippi or Pennsylvania

Richardson speaks at a political rally in Jackson today,
vows to end bid if he does not win one of next two primaries.

Jackson
- While campaigning in Mississippi, Governor Bill Richardson has put out a call to his supporters, indicating that he will end his efforts for the Democratic party nomination if he doesn't win one of the next two primaries.

Speaking from the campaign trail in Jackson, Mississippi, Richardson expressed hope that this announcement will be a call to action to his supporters, encouraging them to "get out the vote."

Richardson lags in both state polls, and is considered a sizeable longshot to pull off a victory in either state.

Breaking News: Dodd wins again

03/11/08

The Dodd campaign stopped briefly to address the Daughters of the Grandsons of the
Widders of the Confederacy in Biloxi Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson
- Mississippi has handed Senator Christopher Dodd another big victory tonight, as he takes the state's Democratic primary by an impressive margin. Governor Bill Richardson, whose appeal for support failed to bring him a win here, finished second. John Edwards' travails continue, as he finished well behind the others.

Pennsylvania's primary is next up on April 22. Both the Edwards and Richardson campaign will have a little longer than a month to try to turn the tide in preparation for the most Democratic delegate rich primary left on the schedule.

Democratic Delegates won in Mississippi:
Dodd - 20
Richardson - 9
Edwards - 4

Delegate count overall:

Democratic - 2025 needed

Christopher Dodd - 884
John Edwards - 768
Bill Richardson - 690

Out of the Race

Barack Obama - 304
Hillary Clinton - 48
Joe Biden - 27
Mike Gravel - 18

This has to be the craziest universe I've ever seen. I love it! I remember a game being out in 2004, I saw it at a Best Buy store, that was sort of a political role-playing game. You picked a party and started campaigning across the country - raising money, slinging mud - all of it. I didn't buy it because it the time, I thought politics a lot more seriously than I do now!

Now, the game imitates life and life imitates the game!

Here's to political RPG's
