Lead up to Iowa Republican Primary
12/31/2007
DES MOINES - After several months of campaigning, the candidates have completed their swing of the state. Iowa sits poised to begin the process of selecting the next President of the United States. National polls have been conducted throughout the fall, with varying degrees of accuracy. None have been more in tune with the nation's voters than this, the final poll before the Iowa caucus. On the Republican side, the field is set. Polls indicate the following voter preferences on a National scale, if the GOP nomination were to be conducted today: Giuliani - 18.1% Paul - 16.4% Thompson - 15.7% Keyes - 14.9% McCain - 14.8% Huckabee - 10.4 % Romney - 9.7 % As in all polls +/- is on average about 4 percent, which indicates that this is a very close race indeed for the top 5 candidates. While the polls represent national voter preference, Iowa may have a whole different take. 40 delegates hang in the balance for GOP candidates. The Iowa caucuses are January 3rd. Stay tuned for results. |

Interestingly enough...
TB2.5 won't allow me to set up an autoscheduler with a woman fighter against men fighters! Even though Gender is (ALL), the woman fighter gets no man fighter of the same weight class scheduled against her. TB2.5 will obviously have none of it. I have no choice at this point but to make Hillary a man. I know this might offend some people but it is the only way for the RtWH to continue. The Universe brass asks you to understand the context of this decision and absolve them of the obvious connotations that might be derived from said decision. It is in the best interest of the candidate that said decision be adopted. Sally forth! |

Lead up to Iowa Democratic Primary
12/31/07
DES MOINES - Zogby today released it's poll of the Democratic field for the 2008 Presidential election on the eve of the Iowa Caucus. As with the Republicans, the Democrats sport a sizeable field of viable candidates, each with a legitimate chance of winning the White House in 2008. Based on a poll conducted this week, the nation's voters, if faced with their choice of the Democratic field, assigned their preference for President in the following percentages: John Edwards - 14.3% Chris Dodd - 13.5% Barack Obama - 13.2% Joe Biden - 12.7% Dennis Kucinich - 12.1% Mike Gravel - 11.6% Hillary Clinton - 11.5% Bill Richardson - 10.3% With the margin of error +/- 4.0 percent, the Democratic field looks to be a dead heat. |

I'll also add for you boxing fans out there that the current polls do not accurately reflect the TB fighter rankings in either party. On one party's side, the rating vs. poll returns is actually almost upside down.

If the general election were held today...
Rudy Giuliani would win by a nose over Democratic frontrunner John Edwards, according to the latest survey, by a 51-49 percent squeaker. Since the margin of error on these polls is tallied at +/- 4%, this indicates a dead heat between the two parties' respective frontrunners.

Leave it to double-C to screw up my GOP pairings. Sheesh.
![]() Now I have 7 rather than 6, so will have to figure out some kindda bye for the Iowa caucus. For want of a better system, I'll reserve the top 3, let the bottom 4 duke it out to become the 4th seed, and go from there. |

More discoveries in set-up....
You can't train a boxer in a tourney, evidently. Consequently, I can't set up the $ system on the Republican primary side. The whole double down idea doesn't work. So here's what I'm going to do - if a person pn the GOP side is beneath 4th place in 3 consecutive primaries, he's gone. Once there are 4 or less left, a candidate can't be shut out of the top 2 in 3 consecutive primaries, or he's gone. Once there's 2, it's every man for himself until the delegate target is reached. On the Dem side, since it is all single fights, round robin style, I'm going to see if I can't stick with the original idea of training, etc. |

With her devastating roundhouse, McKinney, should she enter the fray, becomes an immediate frontrunner in the RtWH2008. Last edited by bigMatt : 02-12-2008 at 11:59 AM. |

Iowa results: Dem race stays tight, clear frontrunner emerges in GOP
01/03/08
DES MOINES - Tonight, the Iowa voters delivered the first chapter in the Rumble to the White House saga. With just over 50% of the precincts reporting so far, the contest for the 40 GOP delegates has already been declared, while the Democratic winner remains uncertain at this moment with five candidates still in the running. Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani has been declared the winner of the first Republican contest of 2008. A frontrunner in polls conducted throughout the Fall, Giuliani's win tonight was not a great surprise. However, the ease with which Giuliani is knocking out the rest of the GOP field is as unexpected as it is impressive. Giuliani's campaign theme, focused primarily on national security, evidently resonated with Iowa's voters. Giuliani currently holds a commanding lead of 21% over Houston Congressman Ron Paul. John McCain and Alan Keyes vie for distant third. What is becoming apparent on the Democratic side is that voters are struggling to forward a clear frontrunner. With just over 50% of the precincts reporting, The race is officially too close to call. Five candidates still have a legitimate shot at earning top spot in tonight's Democratic caucuses. Currently, the vote count shows 24% for John Edwards, 22% for Christopher Dodd, 18% for Bill Richardson, with Mike Gravel and Barack Obama each sitting at 17%. Only Kucinich, Biden and Clinton appear to be out of the running. Current Delegate count: GOP Rudy Giuliani: 40 DNC Undeclared: 57 Final results will be announced once all precincts have been reported. |

Iowa annoints Democratic Caucus Winner
01/03/08
DES MOINES - With all precincts reporting, the final results have been tallied for the Democratic caucus, and Christopher Dodd has emerged the winner by a narrow margin over John Edwards and Barack Obama. While Dodd can proclaim victory tonight, the closeness of the race leaves him with the barest of majorities in overall delegates. Dodd will take 21 of the state's 57 Democratic delegates to Edwards' 19 and Obama's 17. Both Mike Gravel and Bill Richardson, having narrowly missed the cut off for delegate awards, remain encouraged over their strong showings. Final Delegate count for Iowa: ![]() GOP Rudy Giuliani: 40 ![]() ![]() ![]() DNC Christopher Dodd: 17 John Edwards: 10 Barack Obama: 8 Uncommitted: 12 On to New Hampshire! Great showing for the senior Senator from the great state of Connecticut - Christopher Dodd.
(A hell of a lot better than the 4 total votes he got in the real Iowa Caucus)

The Independents don't enter the fray until the General election. There are no primaries for the Independent candidates. I'll take a guess and/or a poll to determine who will be added to the race when it's time for the general election to commence. |
