Super Tuesday Democratic Update
We are in still in the early stages of Super Tuesday, but one thing is already clear - the race for the Democratic nomination is far from over. Looking over the results, here is what we know:
Alabama - Christopher Dodd opens the night with a win in Alabama, with Senator John Edwards finishing a solid second and Barack Obama a distant third. Delegate count: Dodd - 30 Edwards - 18 Obama - 4 Gov. Bill Richardson was the only other candidate to actively run in Alabama, and he was a minimal player at best. Arkansas - John Edwards racks up his first win of the night, soundly earning the nod among Arkansas voters. Richardson, who had little support in Alabama, is the runner up here. Senator Hillary Clinton, who campaigned hard in the state and hoped to steal a victory here, finished a dismal third. Delegate count: Connecticut - John Edwards wins a real squeaker here, where just a few thousand votes separates first from third place. Christopher Dodd gets a disappointing second in his home state, with Richardson right on his heels.Edwards - 28 Richardson - 16 Clinton - 3 Neither Obama or Dodd had much impact on this race, despite an active presence in the state. Delegate count: Edwards - 19 Dodd - 15 Richardson - 14 No other candidate actively campaigned in Connecticut. Georgia - Governor Bill Richardson won big in Georgia tonight, riding a night of significant highs and just as precipitous lows. John Edwards, whose support appears so far to be most consistent across the board, finished second. Christopher Dodd was third. Delegate count: Richardson - 55 Edwards - 40 Dodd - 8 The delegate trak follows this report. |

Breaking News: Delaware Reports
02/05/08
![]() Dover - Continuing his string of solid victories, Rudy Giuliani makes it five in a row with Delaware a projected win for the former Mayor. ![]() And on the Democratic side, Christopher Dodd cruises to take the majority of available delegates in a largely uncontested win. Mike Gravel placed second to the Connecticut Senator, and favorite son Joe Biden, no doubt pinning his fading hopes on a win in his home state, finished a disappointing third. No other candidate actively campaigned in Delaware. |

Breaking News: Dead heat in New Jersey
02/05/08
![]() Jersey City - Mirroring the nation's inability to annoint a frontrunner, early returns from New Jersey indicate a statistical dead heat between Senators Christopher Dodd and John Edwards, with strong support for Senator Barack Obama as well. With 23% of precincts reporting, both Dodd and Edwards are dead even in vote count, with Sen. Obama less than 10,000 behind. Joe Biden, given up for lost so far this campaign, is solidly in 4th place and climbing. Only Gov. Bill Richardson and Sen. Hillary Clinton appear to be entirely out of the running among New Jersey's active Democratic primary participants. ![]() On the Republican side, as expected, Rudy Giuliani is cruising to a big victory in the Garden State. Senator Fred Thompson currently holds a small lead over third place Alan Keyes. |

Breaking News: Massachusetts goes to Giuliani, Dodd
02/05/08
![]() Boston - Rudy Giuliani adds another victory to his big night with a trouncing of the field in Massachusetts' Republican primary. The prohibitive frontrunner annihilated runner up Alan Keyes in every key demographic. Fred Thompson, the only other candidate to run in the state, finished dead last. ![]() Christopher Dodd pulled out an impressive victory tonight over the field of Democratic hopefuls, soundly trumping second place finisher John Edwards. Bill Richardson is hanging with Edwards in third place with almost 90% of the votes counted. Clinton and Obama, both of whom spent a good deal of time campaigning in Massachusetts, are well out of the running. Massachusetts Democratic Delegate distribution: Dodd - 45 Edwards - 30 Richardson - 18 Undeclared - 28 Last edited by bigMatt : 02-22-2008 at 09:14 PM. |

New York is up next, with its whopping 281 Democratic delegates, and 101 Republican delegates.
I'll save you a little drama by letting you know that Giuliani is running uncontested in NY. Big surprise there. Since he has been so utterly dominating, no one wanted to face him on his home turf. Alan Keyes will be doubling up in Illinois in hopes of snagging a big victory there and staying afloat for at least a little longer. I have to say, I didn't expect a dominating showing of this magnitude from Giuliani. The Democratic contest could go any which way. Clinton will get hometown favorite status, but who knows if that will be enough. Despite really good ratings, she is just dogging it all over the map. It's interesting to see the mano a mano between Edwards and Dodd. Thought Dodd might be slipping but with Delaware and now Massachusetts in the win column, he's definitely on his way back. New Jersey is ridiculously close. While I know the results, I think I'll hang on to them for a while longer. ![]() Off to dinner, and then perhaps later (before Friday Night Lights) we'll get New York in the books. ![]() |

New Jersey Democratic primary results and current delegate count
Jersey City - With just a few hundred votes separating the two, New Jersey has been declared a virtual tie between Sen. John Edwards and Sen Chris Dodd. While they will both depart New Jersey with an equal number of delegates, if the current trend continues, Edwards will be declared the winner of the primary. Sen. Barrack Obama, who also finished strongly in the state, will receive a nice share of delegates, as will 4th place finisher, Sen. Joe Biden, who finished surprisingly strong.
New Jersey Delegate distribution: * Edwards - 35 Dodd - 35 Obama - 23 Biden - 14 Undeclared - 20 *presumptive victor Current delegate count (2025 needed for nomination): Edwards - 201 Dodd - 197 Richardson - 125 Obama - 50 Biden - 14 Gravel - 10 Clinton - 3 |

Breaking News: Obama wins big in New York
02/05/08
![]() New York - In a manner that was nothing short of stunning, Senator Barack Obama has taken the New York primary tonight. While Sen. Obama's win is considered a major upset, what is most surprising is the thrashing he administered to the other candidates, beating them in every important demographic across the state. Many pundits had written the Illinois Senator's campaign off for dead after a lackluster January put Obama well behind the Democratic frontrunners. While finances continue to be a concern, this big victory tonight catapaults Obama into the thick of the race for delegates. ![]() With no other candidate actively campaigning in the state on the Republican side, Rudy Giuliani won New York in a landslide. Delegates won in New York tonight: Republican Giuliani - 101 Democratic Obama - 127 Richardson - 50 Dodd - 27 Clinton - 20 Edwards - 8 Delegate count overall: Rudy Giuliani - 595 Alan Keyes - 13 Democratic - 2025 needed Christopher Dodd - 224 Barack Obama - 177 Bill Richardson - 175 Hillary Clinton - 23 Joe Biden - 14 Mike Gravel - 10Last edited by bigMatt : 02-23-2008 at 12:56 PM. |

Breaking News: Tennessee Primary Results
02/05/08
NASHVILLE - Rudy Giuliani fought back a stiff challenge from Native Son Fred Thompson to win the GOP primary today in Tennessee. While Thompson's support was strong, particularly in the rural areas, New York City's ex-mayor found enough support among urban voters to win control of the state's Republican delegates. For the Democrats, it was New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson who narrowly escaped with a victory tonight, fighting back a stiff challenge from John Edwards. Delegates won in Tennessee tonight: Republican Giuliani - 55 Democratic Richardson - 29 Edwards - 27 Dodd - 16 Obama - 3 Delegate count overall: Rudy Giuliani - 650 Alan Keyes - 13 Democratic - 2025 needed Christopher Dodd - 240 Bill Richardson - 204 Barack Obama - 180 Hillary Clinton - 23 Joe Biden - 14 Mike Gravel - 10 |

Breaking News: Oklahoma results in
02/05/08
![]() Oklahoma City - The race to represent the Democratic party in the 2008 general election just got tighter. Gov. Bill Richardson makes it two in a row with a big win in Oklahoma tonight. Missouri Breaks for Edwards, Giuliani wins again
02/05/08
![]() JEFFERSON CITY - Senator John Edwards is the choice among the state's Democratic voters in tonight's Missouri primary. Edwards carried the state by over 50%, and collect well over 2x the votes of runner up Christopher Dodd. Bill Richardson barely edged Joe Biden for third place in the state. Missouri was among the handful of Super Tuesday states in which Biden actively campaigned - a decision attributed to the endorsement Biden received from former Missouri Senator Dick Gephardt. Biden had hoped to sneak into the running for the state's delegates. But his campaign, failing to gain any traction elsewhere, could not break out in Missouri. For the GOP, Rudy Giuliani breezed to victory tonight, easily besting runner up Fred Thompson. Delegates won in Missouri tonight: Republican Giuliani - 58 Democratic Edwards - 37 Dodd - 13 Richardson - 12 Biden - 10 Delegate count overall: Rudy Giuliani - 749 Alan Keyes - 13 Democratic - 2025 needed Christopher Dodd - 264 Bill Richardson - 234 Barack Obama - 180 Joe Biden - 24 Hillary Clinton - 23 Mike Gravel - 10Last edited by bigMatt : 02-25-2008 at 06:28 PM. |

Developing Story out of Illinois
02/05/08
SPRINGFIELD - News out of Springfield tonight is that Senator Christopher Dodd is on track to achieve a major victory in the Illinois primary. The state, long considered a bastion of support for Illinois Senator Barack Obama, looks instead to be breaking in a major way for the Senator from Connecticut. The win, if it holds, will likely leapfrog Dodd once again into the lead position in the race for Democratic delegates. The early Republican returns indicate, to no one's surprise, another big night for Giuliani. |

With the Republican race wrapped up long ago for Giuliani what I'm most interested in seeing is how he does against the Democratic challenger. Is Rudy really the unstoppable juggernaut that he appears to be or is it a product of a weak Republican field? Thats the big question I think.
